I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle
"Gavin, I just want to check the student records. It’s not like I’m breaking any laws. Can’t you just make an exception?” Liza asked, her frustration evident as her fingers clenched tightly. Gavin raised an eyebrow, his tone calm but unyielding. “Mrs. Stone, you should know that only the chancellor of Li City University has the authority to access those records. Of course, if you’re patient, you can submit a formal request as a teacher. If the majority of the university board approves, you’ll be granted access to the data.” Liza was left speechless. As if to make things worse, Gavin casually pulled out his phone and began scrolling. “Would you like to submit the application? I can send you the form right now. Although…” He glanced at her with a faint smirk. “I recall a teacher trying the same thing not too long ago. His request was rejected almost immediately by the university board.” Her patience snapped. “What nonsense! George managed to get the records for Li City University not long ago. If he could do it, why can’t I?” she retorted angrily. “George is my assistant,” Gavin replied with a mocking tone. “Isn’t it normal for him to help me with such tasks?” Liza’s anger faltered as she struggled to counter. “But… you’re my husband,” she muttered, her voice growing quieter with each word. The sudden silence in the car was deafening. After a brief pause, Gavin chuckled, the sound low and teasing. His gaze softened slightly, yet there was a hint of amusement in his eyes. “Oh, so you do remember I’m your husband?” Liza blinked, caught off guard. Before she could respond, Gavin continued, “You keep calling me Gavin. Anyone listening might think I’m your enemy.” Her face froze. She had always called him by his full name. What was wrong with that? Did he expect her to address him like one of his subordinates or employees? President Stone? Master Stone? The thought made her lips twitch. No, she had a sneaking suspicion that if she dared call him something formal like that, he’d get even angrier—and might even throw her out of the car. “What else can I call you if not Gavin?” she asked, trying to sound reasonable. “I’m not your employee or subordinate, so there’s no need for formalities, right?” Her fingers tapped lightly on her knee as an idea struck her. She suddenly recalled how some women addressed him before. Could she…? Her voice wavered as she spoke hesitantly, “Brother Gavin?” The moment the words left her mouth, she shuddered involuntarily. The cringe was almost unbearable, and she stole a glance at Gavin, half-expecting him to be unimpressed. But the air in the car shifted strangely. Just as she was about to break the awkward silence, Gavin’s deep, slightly hoarse voice filled the space. “Say it again.” Liza froze, stunned by his unexpected reaction. “What?” Gavin turned to her, his eyes unreadable. Instinctively, she repeated, “...Brother Gavin?” “Gentler this time,” he instructed, his voice calm yet firm. Her brain struggled to process the moment, but she complied, her tone softening. “Brother Gavin?” “Yes.” A faint smile tugged at Gavin’s lips, and his gaze flickered for a brief moment, almost as if suppressing something. Liza blinked, trying to comprehend what had just happened. Did… did Gavin actually like being addressed like that? Seriously? She gulped, her mind racing. If this was the key to getting what she wanted, then so be it. Smiling sweetly, she leaned in slightly and asked, “Brother Gavin, could you help me access the records for Li City University now?”Gavin's Adam's apple moved subtly as he tugged at his tie, avoiding Liza’s gaze. "I’ll take care of it for you tomorrow," he said, his voice low and controlled. Liza, who had been observing him closely, noticed a faint flush creeping up his ears. Her curiosity piqued—was Gavin actually shy? Could he really be this affected by her playful tone? “Brother Gavin…” she hesitated, forcing the words out with great effort. Then, with a slight smirk, she added, “Can I kiss you?” For days, Gavin had been in a bad mood, and it had taken a toll on Liza. Her taste buds had been suffering, and the bitterness in her mouth felt endless. Now that she seemed to have stumbled upon a way to sway him, she couldn’t resist pushing her luck to claim some personal benefits. Gavin’s expression didn’t change much, but there was a flicker of something in his eyes. Her soft address had clearly unsettled him, and his voice dropped even lower, tinged with a hoarseness she hadn’t heard before. “Okay.” Liza froze. “What?!”Had she heard him correctly? He actually agreed? And just like that? If she’d known that calling him “Brother Gavin” was such a powerful trick, she would have done it ages ago! Without wasting another second, she leaned over and placed a quick kiss on the corner of his lips. Before Gavin could react further, she rummaged through her bag, retrieved a piece of mint candy, and popped it into her mouth. The refreshing sweetness spread across her tongue as she relaxed against the car seat, a satisfied smile gracing her lips. She licked her lips absentmindedly, savoring the moment. Half an hour later, the car pulled into the driveway of the villa. As soon as the engine stopped, Liza reached for the door handle to step out. But just as she did, a clear, melodic female voice rang out from the entrance of the villa. “Brother Gavin! Aunt and I came to visit you!” Liza froze mid-motion.Her gaze darted toward Gavin, who sat quietly in the driver’s seat, his expression unreadable, as if lost in thought. Her chest tightened. So that’s why he liked being called ‘Brother Gavin.’ He’s used to it! The thought sent a surge of irritation through her. Another woman addressing him with the same endearment felt like a slap in the face. She narrowed her eyes at him, snorted under her breath, and got out of the car without another word.
