I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle
After class ended, Liza let out a long sigh while holding her phone. All she wanted was to search for some details about Li City University. How did Gavin end up being involved in this? She blamed Miles—he always managed to mess things up at the worst possible times. Resting her chin in her hand, Liza fell deep into thought. Technically, she could hack into Li City University’s system and find whatever information she needed. It wouldn’t be hard for someone with her skills. But then she remembered Miles’s warning: Don’t mess with Li City University’s system. At the time, she hadn’t paid much attention to his words and agreed casually. After all, she hadn’t been interested in the university back then. But now, the question lingered in her mind: why had Miles been so adamant about this? A new thought struck her—could Miles also be a student at Li City University? It wasn’t entirely impossible. The last time they had chatted, Miles had mentioned being in Li City. Based on what she knew, Miles wasn’t too old, so it made sense if he was a student here. But what department would he belong to? Computer programming, perhaps? It seemed like a logical guess. Her phone’s ringing pulled her out of her thoughts. Gavin was calling. “Where are you?” he asked. Apparently, the chauffeur who had dropped her off earlier couldn’t come back due to some other commitment, so Gavin had come to pick her up himself. Well, that worked out perfectly. Liza thought this would be a good chance to bring up her interest in finding information about Li City University. Slipping her phone into her pocket, she shoved her hands in as well and strolled lazily toward the car park. When she arrived at the car, she reached out to open the passenger door, but the handle didn’t budge. Frowning, she knocked on the window to get whoever was inside to unlock the car.The window of the front passenger seat rolled down, revealing Gavin’s calm expression. “Sit in the front,” he said in his usual unbothered tone. Liza blinked, surprised. “You’re driving today?” Now that she thought about it, this was the first time she had seen Gavin drive himself. He usually sat in the back like some untouchable lord, leaving the task to his chauffeur. Since she needed to talk to him about something, Liza decided to cooperate for once. She obediently opened the front door and got in. Crossing her legs neatly, she placed her hands on her lap and offered a bright, polite smile. “I really appreciate you going out of your way to pick me up today.” Gavin glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “Don’t sound so sarcastic.” Liza’s smile froze. “What?” She was genuinely trying to be polite for once, and yet he called her sarcastic? Was this man out of his mind? Taking a deep breath to suppress her irritation, she forced another smile and spoke through gritted teeth. “What are you talking about? I was just thanking you.” “Thanking me?” Gavin scoffed lightly. “You sound like you’re trying to turn me into ashes.” Liza’s jaw dropped. This man really had the audacity! What was wrong with him? He leaned back slightly, a faint smirk tugging at the corner of his lips. “You don’t even know how to ask for a favor properly. How crazy.” Her fingers clenched into fists in her lap, but she kept her composure. . “Gavin,” she began sweetly, “if you don’t want to help me, just say it. There’s no need to be rude.” Instead of responding, Gavin simply stepped on the accelerator, his smirk deepening as the car sped out of the parking lot. Liza was left to stew in her frustration, silently vowing to find her answers on her own if this infuriating man continued to act like this. Gavin had a good idea why Liza's tone had suddenly shifted. It was likely Miles had clued her in on how to dig up the information she wanted about Li City University. Clearly, this woman was trying to get him to cooperate. But her way of asking for help? Completely unacceptable. Liza’s expression flickered between uncertainty and determination as a plan began forming in her mind. She recalled something her teacher had once said: Men can’t resist a little flattery. They all enjoy hearing nice words. Clearing her throat, she softened her voice and began, “Gavin, you must have been so busy lately. I keep running into you at Li City University. You must have some important role there, right?” Gavin’s grip on the steering wheel tightened ever so slightly, though his face remained composed. “Are you perhaps a director at Li City University?” Liza continued, adding a hint of admiration to her tone. “If that’s the case, I have to say, that’s really impressive.”Before she could say more, Gavin slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to an abrupt stop. “Liza,” he said with cold disdain, “just get to the point. Don’t nauseate me with this nonsense.” Liza coughed, straightened her posture, and dropped the pretense. “Fine, I’ll cut to the chase. Are you a director of Li City University? If you are, I need your help. I want access to some student records from 20 years ago—specifically those from the math department.” Gavin leaned back slightly, tapping his fingers rhythmically against the steering wheel. “So, you’re asking for a favor?” “Something like that,” Liza admitted reluctantly. Of course, if Gavin refused, she could always pressure Miles into helping her. And if he didn’t cooperate, well… she wouldn’t hesitate to “convince” him with a few well-placed punches. Violence wasn’t her first choice, though—she preferred resolving things without unnecessary trouble.Still smiling sweetly, she asked, “So, Gavin, will you help me or not?” Gavin said nothing at first, but the way his eyes narrowed told her he wasn’t exactly pleased. He could sense an undertone of challenge in her voice, almost as if she were daring him to refuse. Was this how she asked for help? By practically threatening him? He scoffed silently, finding her audacity both irritating and oddly amusing. Just as Liza’s patience was starting to wear thin, Gavin finally broke the silence. “Yes, I’m a director of Li City University,” he said nonchalantly. “And I do have access to the student records you’re looking for.” Hearing this, Liza immediately perked up, hope lighting up her face. “You do? That’s great! It should be a simple matter for you, then, right? So… will you help me?” Gavin tilted his head, his gaze sharp and calculating. “I can help you,” he said, dragging out the words. “But… I don’t really feel like helping you, Mrs. Stone.”Liza’s smile froze. “What?” She blinked, her disbelief quickly turning into irritation. Was this man serious? Gavin leaned back in his seat, completely unfazed by her reaction. The corners of his lips twitched upward in a faint smirk, clearly enjoying her frustration. Liza clenched her hands tightly, resisting the overwhelming urge to throw a punch. Taking a deep breath, she reminded herself to stay calm. But as her patience wore thinner by the second, her fists itched to remind this arrogant man who he was dealing with.
