I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 287

Liza took the bags from Gavin’s hands, her curiosity piqued. They seemed to hold clothes. Opening one bag, she paused, her expression a mixture of surprise and amusement. Inside was a bathing suit—a soft blend of pink and white. The sleeves were made of delicate muslin, light and airy. A butterfly bow adorned the chest, and the outfit was completed with a pristine, short white skirt. It was a perfect fit, both in size and style, and undeniably charming. Realizing Gavin had brought it for her when she couldn’t find one herself, Liza’s heart warmed. She quickly turned to the second bag, noticing it was dusty as if it had been stored away for a long time. She opened it and pulled out a second bathing suit, only to stop and stare at it in disbelief. It was ridiculously small. Peeking in from the doorway, Oliver caught sight of the outfit and couldn’t contain his reaction. “What the heck? That’s a kid’s swimsuit! What kind of strange taste does the president have? Shocking!” Liza held up the tiny bathing suit, her face a mix of shock and helplessness. She glanced at Gavin and asked, “Did you get the size wrong?” Gavin, ever composed, replied softly, “No, it’s exactly the size I intended.” Her confusion deepened. His ears reddened slightly, but he maintained a calm demeanor. “I bought this for you a long time ago—the first time you said you were ready to face your fear of water. I hoped you could wear it as a symbol of overcoming that fear.” Liza was taken aback, her thoughts pulling her into the past. She recalled the first time she dared to enter the water, encouraged by her senior. Her third brother had been so terrified he rushed in to carry her out. Afterward, she had eagerly texted her senior, telling him all about her small triumph.Back then, his response was brief—just an “okay.” He had seemed distant, often taking a long time to reply. Yet, she never grew tired of messaging him. She raised her gaze to Gavin, her heart heavy with a bittersweet ache. “You… You still remember that?” His eyes softened, filled with a tenderness that made her heart clench. “Of course. I bought it back then as a reward for your courage, but I never got the chance to give it to you.” Her breath hitched as the memories came flooding back. At the time, she had been thrilled to share her small victory, but her senior’s sparse replies had left her wondering. It wasn’t until much later that she learned he had been injured during that period. And just like that, she had forgotten about the reward he had promised. Now, standing before her was proof that he hadn’t. He had held onto that promise for years. Gavin spoke softly, his voice filled with warmth. "After I bought the gift, I encountered some trouble and got injured. By the time I thought of giving it to you again, the swimsuit no longer fit. And since you didn’t bring it up, I figured you had forgotten about it." Liza blinked, puzzled. "But you didn’t even know if I could swim or not. Why did you go ahead and buy me a new one?" Her gaze drifted to the pink bathing suit. She had to admit, Gavin had excellent taste. Gavin’s lips curved into a gentle smile. "The gift I promised didn’t fit anymore, so of course, I had to replace it with a new one." Her heart clenched, a lump forming in her throat. Gavin—or rather, her senior—was always so thoughtful. Something she had mentioned casually, he had remembered all this time. Unable to contain her excitement, Liza grabbed the pink swimsuit and dashed toward the bathroom, her voice echoing through the house. "Gavin, hurry up and change! Let’s go swimming!" Moments later, she pushed open the bathroom door, wrapping herself casually in a towel as she headed toward the backyard. Gavin took a deep breath, trying to remain composed, but the brief glimpse of her slender waist and long legs had his heart racing. Her skin was luminous, her figure elegant and perfectly proportioned. She moved with an effortless grace that seemed almost otherworldly, as if a fairy had descended into the mortal realm. Yet, Liza appeared blissfully unaware of her own beauty at that moment. Gavin reached out, taking her hand in his. Feeling the warmth of her touch, he quickly signaled for Oliver andGeorge to leave. Only after they departed did he allow himself to relax again. Once the coast was clear, Gavin held her hand firmly and guided her toward the backyard. Just as Liza pushed the door open, a cheerful male voice rang out. "Gavin, are you heading for a swim?" Henry appeared, bounding toward them like an overexcited puppy. "Take me with you! I haven’t gone swimming in ages!" Gavin’s expression turned stormy in an instant. Without a word, he scooped Liza up, wrapping her snugly in her towel. His protective instincts kicking in, he shot Henry a cold glare and turned on his heel, shutting the door with a resounding bang. Henry froze mid-step, staring at the closed door with a bewildered expression. "What just happened?" Rejected and utterly innocent, Henry scratched his head, muttering to himself, "Why does he get to have all the fun?"
