I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle
“Brother, just try it!” Henry exclaimed, eagerly shoving a skewer of lamb into his mouth while motioning for Gavin to do the same. Honestly, who didn’t love barbecue? Liza and Henry had enthusiastically gone through the menu, picking out dishes with bold flavors and an extra kick of spice. When their orders arrived, the vibrant red of the chili peppers alone made their fingers itch with anticipation. But then there was Gavin. He didn’t seem like the type who could handle spicy food, so Liza thoughtfully ordered a few non-spicy dishes for him. However, when the food arrived, she couldn’t help but feel a twinge of disappointment. The milder dishes looked dull in comparison to the fiery ones, and her appetite waned slightly. Just as they were about to dig in, George approached and leaned close to Gavin, whispering something in his ear. Gavin nodded, excused himself, and followed George out of the room. By the time Gavin returned, the table was overflowing with plates of sizzling meats and fragrant spices. “The place you chose is amazing, Gavin!” Henry exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with delight as he stuffed another skewer into his mouth. “I’ve never had such upscale barbecue before. The meat is so tender, and the ingredients are top-notch! What do you think? Isn’t it delicious?” Henry barely waited for a response before thrusting two skewers of grilled kidney slices toward Liza. “Here, try these! Some people find the taste a bit strong, but I think they’re incredible. The kidney slices here are on another level. You’ll love them!” Liza hesitated, her fingers twitching as she glanced at the skewers. Meanwhile, Gavin observed the scene with a raised eyebrow. He had only been gone for a short while, yet Henry and Liza seemed far more comfortable with each other than he remembered. The sight tugged at something inside him. The last time these two met, they were practically at each other’s throats. Now, as the three of them sat together, Gavin felt oddly like an outsider. “Henry,” Gavin said suddenly, his tone calm but sharp enough to grab his brother’s attention. Henry looked up, a piece of kidney halfway to his mouth. “Huh?” A faint smile curled on Gavin’s lips, but his eyes carried a glint of mischief. “You should probably go easy on the kidneys.” Henry frowned, clearly unhappy. “Why? You’re not eating them, so why should you care? What’s wrong with kidneys? I’ve been eating barbecue for years, and kidneys have always been great. Just because you never eat barbecue doesn’t mean you get to judge!” “I never said kidneys were bad,” Gavin replied, his voice steady as his gaze flicked toward the skewers. He paused for dramatic effect before adding casually, “They’re actually quite good… for boosting a man’s stamina. But tell me, Henry, is that really something you need?” Liza choked on her drink, her cheeks turning a deep shade of red as she coughed. Henry blinked, confused. “What do you mean?” Gavin’s expression remained neutral, though there was a faint smirk playing at the corners of his mouth. “If you’re so interested in eating organs, why not try pig’s hearts and brains? Maybe they’ll help repair some of the damage to your own.” Liza couldn’t hold back a snicker as she clicked her tongue in mock disapproval. How on earth had Henry survived this long with such a ruthless brother? Gavin’s sharp tongue was truly terrifying. It was a small miracle that Henry had turned out as cheerful as he was, considering his brother’s biting sarcasm. He stared at Liza with wide eyes, his expression somewhere between confusion and determination. Then, with a resigned look as if heading to his doom, he glanced at the dishes spread across the table.“Liza, what do you want to eat? I’ll get it for you!” he said enthusiastically, already reaching for the barbecue skewers. Before Liza could refuse, Henry began piling the best pieces of grilled meat onto her plate. He even poured her a drink and handed it to her with a smile. When she took a bite, he quickly grabbed a napkin and gently wiped the corners of her mouth like an attentive but overzealous waiter. Gavin observed the scene in silence, his expression unreadable. Nearby, George could barely contain his frustration. He stomped his foot like a child and leaned toward Gavin, whispering urgently, “President! Look at your younger! He’s showing you how it’s done! You should learn from him and take better care of Young Madam!” Henry glanced at his older brother smugly, his posture screaming, Hah! Beat that! Despite Henry’s overt display, Gavin remained indifferent, his calm demeanor unmoved. Liza, meanwhile, was utterly puzzled. She cast a questioning look at Gavin, wondering, Why isn’t he reacting? Henry is being so obvious, and yet Gavin looks like he doesn’t care at all. As she pondered this, another thought crossed her mind. Henry’s such a sweet guy. Why can’t Gavin learn from his little brother? Unbeknownst to her, Gavin could hear her internal musings loud and clear. His lips twitched slightly before he finally broke his silence. “Liza,” he called out, his deep voice cutting through the air. She instinctively looked up, meeting his gaze. And then came his words, calm but ruthless: “Be careful not to become as foolish as him. One is marked by the company they keep.” The room fell into stunned silence. George nearly choked, his hand flying to his chest as if to steady his racing heart. President, how could you say that?!He shot Gavin a desperate look. You’re completely hopeless! That’s your wife! How can you be so insensitive? With this attitude, it’s a miracle she married you at all. If you keep this up, don’t be surprised if she divorces you one day! Henry, on the other hand, was completely flustered. “Are you calling me stupid?!” he exclaimed, his voice filled with disbelief. Good grief, Henry thought. Does Gavin ever say anything nice? His brother’s sharp tongue was impossible to deal with. Still, Henry didn’t dare to argue directly. Instead, he swallowed his retort, though it burned at the back of his throat. Meanwhile, Liza was feeling the heat—literally. The spicy food was making her face flush, so she decided to step away and grab a glass of iced orange juice. On her way back to the table, just as she rounded a corner, a woman in a hurry bumped into her. The impact caught Liza off guard, and the glass slipped from her hand, shattering on the floor. Bright orange juice splattered across the tiles, creating a sticky, colorful mess.
