I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 171

“Liza! Admit it—you cheated! Where did you get the question from?” The hall fell into an uneasy silence as Davis’s voice echoed across the room. The judges exchanged uneasy glances. As absurd as the accusation seemed, they couldn’t ignore his claims entirely. Yet, considering the skill Liza had displayed, the idea of her needing to cheat felt implausible. Who could she possibly have copied from with such flawless execution? Davis’s rage boiled over, breaking the tense stillness. “She had to have stolen the question! She must’ve cheated! I’ve dedicated decades to mastering translation, and now a woman barely in her twenties surpasses me? That’s absolutely impossible! Admit it, Liza!” Before Liza could respond, a deep, authoritative voice cut through the tension. “I can confirm that Miss Susanza did not cheat. More importantly, she doesn’t need to cheat.”All heads turned toward the speaker, and a ripple of astonishment ran through the crowd. “Mr. Nick from the International Translation Organization is here!” someone exclaimed. The atmosphere shifted as the crowd recognized the esteemed translator. Mr. Nick’s presence was unexpected, but his endorsement of Liza sent a shockwave through the room. Davis’s expression darkened further. His indignation bubbled to the surface as he snapped, “Mr. Nick, you must not know who Liza really is. She grew up in the countryside and has never formally studied English! How could someone like her possibly translate at this level? If she didn’t cheat, then explain it!” Nick regarded him with a cold, unimpressed look. His voice carried the weight of his authority as he replied, “And why can’t someone from the countryside learn to translate? Your arrogance is astounding, and it’s exactly why someone like you doesn’t deserve the title of a master translator.”He turned his attention back to the crowd, his voice firm and commanding. “I can provide definitive proof that Miss Susanza did not cheat.” With a gesture from Nick, the large screen behind the stage came to life, and a video began to play. The footage showed a younger version of Liza, her youthful face unmistakably familiar. The room watched as she participated in a series of translation competitions. In each clip, her initial innocence gave way to the poise and brilliance of a rising star. With each victory, she was seen holding a trophy, her calm demeanor never wavering. Gasps rippled through the audience as realization dawned. “She’s already been in so many competitions,” someone whispered. “And she won all of them,” another murmured, awe-stricken. The videos continued to play, showing Liza standing on podiums across multiple prestigious events. The once skeptical crowd was now left in stunned silence, the evidence undeniable. Meanwhile, Davis looked as though the ground beneath him had collapsed. Unlike him, who had never even qualified for international competitions, Liza had not only competed but dominated. To make matters worse, Nick revealed that Liza had been invited multiple times to serve as a judge in international competitions—an honor she had always declined. Mr. Nick’s expression was stern as he addressed the crowd. “You’ve all seen the evidence. Miss Susanza has been a champion in multiple translation competitions. Why would someone with her credentials need to cheat? These questions, including those posed by Mr. Davis, are far beneath her level of expertise.” His words carried an edge of disdain as he added, “Frankly, Mr. Davis doesn’t even have the qualifications to create questions for someone of Miss Susanza’s caliber.” The hall erupted with murmurs of agreement.Davis, his face drained of color, could do nothing but stand there, exposed and humiliated. Davis’s mind was spinning, unable to process what had just unfolded. On the other side of the room, Serena’s face darkened, her gaze locked on Liza, who stood confidently on the stage. How could this be? Serena thought bitterly. How could Liza turn out to be the renowned genius translator? It felt impossible. Unacceptable. In her mind, she was supposed to outshine Liza in every way—in talent, intelligence, and reputation. Yet here she was, being utterly overshadowed by the very person she always looked down on. Liza, however, remained calm and poised, her expression as indifferent as ever. Her sharp eyes landed on Davis, whose body now trembled uncontrollably, his face pale as if all life had drained from him. He struggled to keep his balance, his composure completely shattered. “The champion of the translation competition? That can’t be!” he sputtered, his voice shaking. “The Sinclair Family claimed she’s just a country bumpkin, someone who’s never even studied English properly. This has to be a mistake!” Deep down, Davis knew the truth. He had lost—not just the competition, but everything he had staked his pride and reputation on. His career, his credibility, his very identity as a "master translator"—all of it had crumbled in an instant. Overcome with panic and humiliation, he turned abruptly and tried to leave the venue, unable to face the people around him. “Hold it right there!” Nick’s commanding voice rang out, cutting through the tension in the room. Davis froze mid-step. “You think you can just walk away after what you’ve done?” Nick barked. With a gesture, he signaled for his team to block Davis’s path. “Someone did cheat in today’s competition—but it wasn’t Miss Susanza. It was you!”Gasps echoed throughout the auditorium as Nick gestured toward the large screen. A video began to play. The footage showed a figure sneaking into the archive room where the competition materials were stored. Davis’s eyes widened in horror as the image became clearer. The figure was unmistakably him. The video showed him entering the archive room unnoticed, rummaging through the confidential materials until he found the test questions for the competition. After hastily copying the content, he slipped out, thinking he had gotten away with it. The room erupted in disbelief. “He’s the cheater?!” someone exclaimed. “And he had the audacity to accuse Liza!” “Davis always pretended to be so dignified, calling himself a master translator. Turns out he’s nothing but a jealous fraud!” Another voice chimed in, “Even after stealing the questions, he could only score 7.9 points, while Liza scored a perfect 10! The gap in their abilities is clear as day!” The crowd grew angrier with every passing second. “What kind of person cheats and then shamelessly tries to ruin someone else’s reputation?” “Throw him out of the competition! He doesn’t deserve to be here!” Davis felt the room closing in on him. The sneers, accusations, and whispers felt deafening, and his heart pounded violently. He glared furiously at Liza, his face twisted with resentment and despair. Before he could utter a word, his vision blurred, and he collapsed to the ground, unconscious. The crowd instinctively moved back, unwilling to help. Medical staff rushed in to carry him out of the hall, but not a single person expressed concern for him. Once Davis was gone, the competition resumed without further interruption. The scandal, however, would haunt him forever. Davis’s act of cheating would be thoroughly investigated, and it wouldn’t be surprising if his past achievements turned out to be fraudulent as well. The legacy he had built as a “brilliant translator” now lay in ruins, exposing him as nothing more than a deceitful man driven by jealousy and desperation.
