I Married My Ex's Billionaire Uncle

Chapter 14

Liza's POV When I first returned to the Sinclair family, I had overheard a conversation between Serena and Brandon. They were looking for a skilled hacker. Inspired by my old habit of doing good deeds in secret, I had anonymously sent Brandon my contact information and offered assistance to solve their problem. It had been purely for entertainment at that time but now, it seemed to be working to my benefit. I titled my head thoughtfully, considering the payment he was offering. Should I take his money? After a moment of deliberation, I happily accepted the transfer. Sliding my phone back into my pocket, I turned towards Gavin, my face lighting up with feigned seriousness. “Gavin, I have an idea.”He looked up from his meal, raising an eyebrow. “What kind of idea?” “We’re newlyweds, right? Shouldn't we be doing more to build our bond?” I suggested with an innocent tone. He narrowed his eyes on me. “What exactly are you suggesting?” “For starters…” I trailed off and leaned closer, my voice lowered playfully. “You could kiss me more often.” Gavin put down his chopsticks deliberately and leaned back on his chair, his arms folded. He had a look of amusement too. “So you've been glued to your phone all this time to figure out how to manipulate me?” I blinked, momentarily caught off-guard. “Of course not! I was dealing with something important.” His gaze lingered on me, silently conveying his disbelief. I straightened up and added with insistence. “Don't you agree that we should strengthen our relationship? We live under the same roof, after all. Isn't it necessary to foster a closer connection?” He rested his chin on one hand, his expression unreadable but his tone carried a faint trace of humor. “I know a doctor–a specialist actually. He's quite experienced in matters of physical intimacy. Do you need me to arrange a consultation?” The subtle smile on his face told me that he wasn't being serious but it still struck a nerve. “Gavin!” I sputtered, glaring at him. He chuckled lightly, obviously enjoying teasing me, before shifting his attention back to his meal. No matter how much effort I put into coaxing him, Gavin was an immovable fortress. Finally, I turned away from him just as my phone vibrated again. When I opened the new message, I froze for a moment in surprise. It was from an online friend—a name that brought a flicker of nostalgia.Years ago, in my more reckless days, I relied on my exceptional hacking skills to breach a major online security network across the globe. My bold action earned me plenty of enemies, but I had also been introduced to someone unexpected. Miles Westbrook. We had met during a chaotic night when we both coincidentally targeted the same system; the national security network of T Country. Initially, we mistook each other for rival agents trying to capture one another. But after a brief exchange of technical maneuvers, we realized it was all a misunderstanding. Then we worked together to cover each other's tracks and retreated safely. That incident had marked an unusual friendship. Over the years, we had remained online allies, helping each other solve problems whenever needed. Seeing Mile’s message now brought a small smile to my face. I stared at the cryptic message on my screen that Miles had sent. It piqued my curiosity as I was unable to decipher it's meaning. Quickly, I typed a question mark to signify my confusion. “Is there something trouble happening at Li City Hospital recently?” His reply came swiftly. The question made me pause for a moment but I understood immediately. Smiling faintly, I typed back. “You're in Li City too? It's nothing major—just a minor issue. It'll be resolved soon.” He must have heard about the hacking at the hospital, hence the reason he was reaching out to me. While responding to Miles, I was occasionally glancing at Gavin. He sat nearby, lounging comfortably and scrolling through his phone, entirely indifferent to my presence. “Actually, I've been meaning to ask you something,” I sent, shifting the topic. The fact that Gavin was aloof made me want to distract myself a little with something else. “What is it?” Miles typed back quickly. My finger flew across the keyboard as I began to type without hesitation. “I have a friend. She recently got married, but her husband keeps his distance. When she suggested they work on their relationship and get closer, he told her to see a doctor instead. What advice would you give her to bridge the gap between them?” I saw that he had read the message but he wasn't responding. I bite my lips in regret, wondering why I had to ask him that of all people. My phone vibrated again and I realize he had replied. “Are you sure your friend wasn't tricked into this marriage?” The suggestion made me blink in surprise. I considered the idea briefly before dismissing it. After all, I was the one who approached Gavin and suggested a marriage in the first place. If there had been any trickery, it would have been on my part.“No, that's not the case,” I quickly clarified. His reply came moments later, laced with dry humor. “Then maybe there's something wrong with this man’s health. Tell your friend to take him to a urologist.” I froze. “What's with the look?” Gavin’s voice came from where he was seated. That jerked me out of my reverie as I glanced at him and shook my head. “Nothing.” Over the years, the Gavin Stone I had heard of was an enigma. Despite his status and good looks, there had never been any rumors linking him romantically to any woman. Whenever his name came up in conversations, people only described him as cold and detached. But now that I think about it, I began to wonder if his indifference stemmed up from something–something he wasn't willing to share? My jaws dropped in shock.
