The Council's Arcane Academy

Chapter 405 An Experiment

Joseph’s p.o.v. I still can’t believe Joey said that, but Griffin pointed out that it was probably true for outsiders and thinking back on my childhood I have to agree with Joey. Not that my childhood was hell, but for other Pups it would have been hell. I don’t think I am going to point that out to anyone, Dad would take advantage of that knowledge. Erylis and Griffin take up the rear again and we follow the convoy away from the clearing. Thank the Goddess the night in uneventful and even the spot that could hold an ambush was quiet, we make good progress during the night. Jenna peeks out of the SUV, Joey is holding on to her and both wave in our direction. Erylis speeds up a little, catching up with their SUV in seconds and Jenna wishes her a good morning.Within thirty minutes of arriving at the next resting stop everything is set up and I can feel that our Pack-members are happy to be nearing the end of their journey. We lost one Pack-member so far, but we have gained a lot more Pack-members and even the injuries haven't been too bad. Joey has made the makeshift cribs for Christian and Faye again and Jocelyn and I put them to bed, while Joey takes Jenna with him to listen to one of the Youngsters reading a story. I pull Jocelyn with me to the sleeping bag and I pull her close to my chest, I just want to enjoy our time together. It feels as if I can feel her emotions sometimes and I always know where she is, an invisible line connecting us. Jocelyn places a hand on my cheek, while looking into my eyes and I can’t resist the urge to kiss her. I lower my head slowly, giving her every opportunity to pull away from me, but she doesn’t and I groan softly the moment our lips meet. My hand moves to the back of her neck, holding her head in place, refusing to let her go.I keep our lips locked together, putting pressure on her mouth and the moment she moans my tongue finds its way into her mouth. I know this isn’t the best thing to do out in the open, but I am not willing to let Jocelyn go and she doesn’t seem to care much either. She pushes her body closer to mine and I let my other hand glide down her back, pushing her closer. “You are ours, Jocelyn. All of you are.” Griffin growls softly through the mind-link and I feel her pull back a little. I open my eyes to see her looking at me and I smile at her, hoping that Griffin didn’t scare her off. “We mean it, Jocelyn. You are ours.” I whisper against her lips and her eyes widen a little. “I want to be yours, Joseph. I am just a little scared.” She says softly and I can feel her anxiousness, this feels so strange. “I can feel that you are anxious, but I don’t understand why. This is a very strange feeling for me and I wonder if you can feel my emotions.” I say and for a moment she is quiet. “Erylis could feel your worry when I collapsed after the attack.” She says as she looks into my eyes and I remember I was scared, because I feared her injuries were worse than it was. Through the mind-link I tell Jocelyn about the conversation I had with Griffin, about how he compared what we felt to a chain and I can hear Erylis and Jocelyn laugh through the mind-link. “Erylis used the same comparison. Do you think we might find a new way to find a true Mate-bond?” She asks and for a while I just hold her in my arms, unable to say a word. I keep thinking about the comparison Griffin made and I need to ask Erylis if she has the same feeling as Griffin. “Erylis, Griffin says that it feels as if the chain is connecting link by link. Does it feel the same for you?” I ask her and the three of us wait for her to answer my question. “Yes, it does. Almost as if each link needs time to become strong enough, before the next one can be formed. I think it is why it feels as if the pull becomes stronger the more time passes and why we can tell where you are.” Erylis finally answers. I remember watching Dad as a young Pup walking into a room and every single time he knew where Mom was. I saw the same with my Aunts and Uncles, something Aunt Melia hated because she could no longer hide from Uncle Apollo. We even tested it once by blindfolding them, but it was of no use and they had found their Mates without much problems. April had asked if we were able to do the same and we had tested that as well. It was a bit different for us, but we knew in which direction we had to look and after that hide and seek was no longer any fun. I didn’t think it would work for my siblings, because they didn’t have their Wolves yet. I tell Jocelyn about our experiment and she giggles when I ask her if we should test Joey. Inti has been listening to our conversation and he calls Joey over for some bogus reason, while I link an Omega with our plan. I can see Jenna looking at Joey, a smile on her face and a finger on her lips as she looks at me. All Jocelyn knows is that Jenna will be hiding and once we make sure that Jenna is hiding, I allow Jocelyn to sit up straight. “Joey, where is Jenna?” Jocelyn asks and we see Joey look around. He walks back the same way he came and he moves further to his right, getting closer to the SUV Jenna is hiding in. “She should be here, Mom. I can feel her nearby.” He says and then he turns around with a shocked look on his face. His mouth opening and closing as he tries to make sense of what he said. “Boo.” Jenna says giggling as she gets out of her hiding spot and Joey grabs her quickly before coming back to us. I tell him about the experiment I did with my siblings and he looks from me to Jenna, a smile forming on his face. After lunch the Pups and Youngsters play hide and seek, using the experiment to find their siblings and even the Adults join in from time to time. It shows us that even the ones that are chosen Mates can find one another without a problem.
