Chapter 404 Hiding Rank

Jocelyn’s p.o.v. I slowly wake up from a good sleep and I can feel that I am surrounded by the ones that I love. Joey’s head is on my shoulder, my head is touching Joseph’s head and Jenna is curled up between us with Faye and Christian on my chest. “How are you feeling, Erylis?” I ask, sensing that she is also awake. “Great, your wound is healed and I am far from exhausted. Having them near has really helped me.” Erylis replies and she curls up in the back of my head, getting some more rest before tonight. “How is your leg, Mom?” I hear Joey ask and I turn my head towards him with tears in my eyes. I pull him back to my side and place a kiss on his forehead, “All healed up.” I answer. It takes a few minutes for the rest to wake up and after Doc has checked my wound, I hand Faye to Joseph and Christian to Joey. I need to walk around a little and Indigo joins me as we walk around the circle, checking on the rest of the wounded. Everyone has been able to heal and they are ready to get moving again, eager to get closer to White Mountain Pack. “I need to tell you something, it is something Kardia and Erylis have been talking about.” I hear Indigo say in my head and I nod my head to indicate to her to proceed. I listen to her as she tells me about the conversation she had with Kardia and what she had figured out after that conversation. “I know, Erylis and I came to that conclusion together. I just hope that it will come close to the Mate-bond our parents once knew.” I tell her. We help the Omegas set up for dinner and then we get send away with the message to get some more rest. Jenna has just woken up and is franticly looking around, until her eyes lock with mine.“Mommy, Mommy.” She yells as she runs towards me and I get down on my hunches with my arms wide open. “Mommy, okay?” She asks as I wrap my arms around her. “Yes, Baby. I am fine.” I say as I lift her of the ground and walk back to Joseph and Joey. Both of them are sitting on a sleeping bag, feeding Faye and Christian a bottle and I take in my little family by choice. I sit down next to Joseph and lean against his shoulder as I look down at Faye, his scent hitting my nostrils. “It is getting stronger every day, I like the way it calms me.” Erylis says and I move a little closer to inhale his scent. Joey places Christian in Inti lap, before he gets up and opens the backdoor of the SUV. He rummages around for a while, probably preparing a sleeping place for both little ones and suddenly I see two hands popping out of the SUV. Inti holds out Christian and a minute or so later his hands pop out again, this time ready to place Faye down for a nap. Inti, Joseph and Joey walk over to the makeshift kitchen and return a few minutes later with plates filled with food. Herold joins us for dinner and while we eat Joey asks questions about White Mountain Pack. We hear about the place that Inti lived in for years, the new Pack-house that Joseph’s parents build and Joseph even tells us about his birth parents. “Good thing that they are not a part of his life anymore, I would have strangled them.” Erylis growls in my head. “How many siblings do you have, Gamma?” Joey asks and for a second I see sadness flash through Joseph’s eyes. He tells Joey about his siblings and it is easy to see that he loves each of them very much, the love is reflected in his eyes. I already heard about April, but hearing some stories about Milo and Bennett has us laughing our asses off. “Okay, let me get this straight. Your Mom is a headstrong female that puts every Alpha to shame, including your Dad and your siblings are just like her.” Joey says and Joseph nods his head.“Fuck, your childhood must have been hell.” Joey mumbles and Joseph’s jaw drops, I don’t think he ever thought of it that way. Or his siblings never turned their stubbornness on him. Inti is hiding his face behind Indigo and Herold suddenly has a huge interest for the sky, neither one of them very good at hiding their laughter. Indigo and I are told to stay seated, to spend a little more time with Jenna and again we try to figure out why her speech is so far behind. I have noticed that she sometimes speaks better, but the next moment she is back to speaking as if her vocabulary is failing her. “Jenna, did your parents tell you to hide your advanced speech from strangers?” I ask, it is just a hunch I have and I hope that I am right. She nods her head, but doesn’t answer me directly. “That okay, Baby. They were really smart, it was good of them to teach you to hide your rank.” I tell her and I hope that once we have settled in White Mountain Pack that she will start to open up.“What do you mean, Jocelyn?” I hear Joseph ask and I keep cuddling Jenna. “Mom told me that High-ranking Pups are always faster with learning and that includes speech and walking. Jenna runs around like four or five year old, but talks like a two year old and that made me wonder if she did it on purpose.” I answer Joseph. I was faster with everything than Indigo, but I always made sure that I helped her to keep up with me and the older we got the easier it became for Indigo to keep up. Maybe it was to prepare her for her role as a Luna, there is so much she needs to learn if she ends up with Inti. After placing Jenna in the SUV with Joey, we get ready to leave again and make the distance between us and White Mountain Pack smaller.
