The Replacement He Never Wanted
What?! Could the tea really be poisoned? Lance kept a watchful eye on Addison, noticing her sudden change in expression. He couldn't help but smile. You were so confident just a moment ago. Having second thoughts now? But seeing Addison in this panicked state made her even more endearing. In her frantic confusion, Lance's affection for her began to grow and spread uncontrollably. "Then why did you come in here?" A hint of fear crossed Addison's mind, prompting her to turn to the waiter for answers. If the tea was truly poisoned, they needed to identify the toxin ... She wasn't afraid of dying, but she at least wanted to say goodbye to Matthew and Leon. As Addison's gaze shifted to him, Lance quickly erased his smile, adopting a serious expression."Answer her. She asked you a question," he demanded, supporting her. The waiter kept his head down, remaining silent. "Why aren't you speaking? Her words carry as much weight as mine. If you don't answer, you're out of here," Lance said, his voice growing sharper. The waiter bent slightly and finally spoke, "The city has been strictly enforcing rules against public disturbances lately ... "If something happened in the restaurant, the authorities would investigate. As the restaurant manager, it's my job to check ... " "Check for what?" Lance inquired, raising an eyebrow. "Checking to see if there were any fights in the private rooms. If there were, we needed to step in immediately." "Did you check any other rooms?" Lance questioned. The waiter instinctively answered, "No, just this one." The moment the words slipped out, he regretted it. Why did he admit to only checking this room? He cursed himself.Predictably, Lance's expression darkened, his eyes turning icy. "With all these rooms, you focused only on this one? "Do you think I'm so terrifying that the entire restaurant needs to monitor me?" His voice lowered, becoming colder and more sinister. The staff had seen him enter the private room, knowing it contained only him and a woman. What were they insinuating? Did they think he, the CEO of the Johnston Enterprise, looked like someone who would harm a woman? "No, no, no ... It's not like that ... " The waiter waved his hands frantically. "You ... you aren't that intimidating." His jittery behavior, however, betrayed his fear. If Lance wasn't so intimidating, why was he so scared that he could barely speak or stand upright? Lance scoffed, his striking features taking on an icy hardness that made others shiver. His piercing eyes bore into the waiter, as if they could see right through him. Just when Clayton thought he was doomed, he heard Lance's cold command. "Get out," Lance said, restraining his anger. Feeling as though he'd been spared, the waiter bolted from the room. "H-hey—" Addison tried to call after him. The waiter hadn't confirmed whether the tea was poisoned! But he was already gone, disappearing out of earshot. Addison glanced at Lance, hoping for some assistance, but his face was like a stone wall, clearly warning her to stay away ... Expecting him to help seemed futile. With a sigh, she sat back down, examining the teacup closely and lifting it to her nose for a careful sniff.
