The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 529 I Admit It

"What do you think? "You tore up the divorce papers; do you expect me to be in a good mood?" she retorted. "If you put a new set of divorce papers in front of me right now, maybe I'd cheer up." The nervous waiter, who had stayed quiet until now, raised an eyebrow at this. Divorce papers? No wonder the man hadn't reacted when he got the documents wet. Clearly, this man did not want a divorce. His look at the woman was filled with affection, entirely different from the intimidating glare he gave the waiter. Having experienced the man's formidable presence firsthand, the waiter could see how his slight quiver might have actually played to the man's advantage. Perhaps he had unwittingly done something good? "Lance, what now? How about you call someone to bring a new set?" "I have an electronic copy. I can send it over."Addison appeared desperate to expedite the divorce proceedings. Intrigued, the waiter glanced at Lance cautiously. Lance's body had gone rigid, his lips pressed into a defiant line. He chose to ignore Addison's request, likely hoping that dodging the issue might stall their parting. "What are you staring at?" "Have you figured out how to answer my earlier question?" Caught in the act, the waiter felt a shiver down his spine. When he looked up, Lance's eyes were already locked on him, as cold as ice. "I-I-I really just came to serve drinks." "Oh really? Make sure that's the truth before you speak." The waiter cast a pleading look at Addison. From his quick observations, the man was intimidating, but the beautiful woman seemed kind-hearted. Though he couldn't fathom how such contrasting personalities ended up together, seeking help from this angelic figure seemed like the best option. "Lance, stop badgering him just to evade the topic." Addison leaped to his defense. "He's just here to pour drinks. Do you have to bully him? "I just drank an entire cup, and I'm still fine, aren't I?" Lance scoffed. "Poisons can take a while to act. When it hits, you'll be the one crying. "When it does, don't come begging me." "Don't worry, I wouldn't beg you for anything." Addison crossed her arms, clearly fed up. Lance looked away from Addison, his demeanor changing to sternness. "You've got one last chance. Tell the truth." "I-I-I ... " The waiter hesitated, trying to hold his ground. Lance's eyes narrowed as he glanced at the waiter's name tag. "So, your name is Clayton, right?"If you don't come clean, you can kiss your job goodbye. "Starting tomorrow, this restaurant will have no Clayton." Although Clayton didn't know Lance's exact identity, the weight of his words struck fear into him, making him believe Lance really could get him fired. Panicked, Clayton finally admitted the truth. "I ... I admit it! I wasn't here just to serve drinks!" Addison's facial expression changed abruptly. Her cheeks turned bright red, and her long, dark lashes fluttered in unease.
