The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 493 Did They Really Need Me?

"Can I tell you a joke?" Virginia asked. The man stayed silent. Seeing that he wasn't responding, Virginia looked around. The transparent glass dome above them created a small greenhouse, filled with many colorful flowers. She jogged into the space and picked several blooms. "Lance, here you go!" She handed him the flowers with a sweet, innocent smile. Lance looked up but didn't take them. Virginia's smile immediately faded. She didn't understand what was going on with him. With no other choice, she sat back down next to Lance. The two of them stared at the view outside the garden in silence, neither of them speaking. Hours passed. The quiet seemed like it would last forever. But unexpectedly, Lance suddenly broke the silence with a question."Virginia, do you think my family would be lost without me?" "What?" Virginia asked, confused. Lost without him? What did that mean? Why was he asking that? She didn't understand what answer Lance was looking for. Virginia hesitated, unsure how to respond. She didn't want to say the wrong thing. Just as she was about to speak, Lance suddenly stood up. "Forget it. Let's go back." ... "It's over," Matthew said, turning to Addison. "The surgery was a success." But Addison didn't seem entirely relieved. She looked at Steven, still lying unconscious in the bed, her heart still racing. "Is it really over?" she asked quietly. It wasn't until the scalpel was put away that Addison finally felt the weight lift from her chest. She smiled at Matthew through her mask. "It really worked!"The feeling of satisfaction after completing a successful surgery was hard to put into words, especially since she had done it alongside her grandfather. Addison pushed Steven's bed out of the operating room. As soon as they emerged, they were immediately surrounded. "How did it go? Was the surgery a success?" Marilyn asked, her hand gripping the edge of the bed railing, her voice tinged with anxiety. The hours of waiting had felt endless. Alone, with no one to talk to, her mind had kept racing. When you're by yourself, it was easy for your thoughts to spiral out of control. Marilyn was truly worried. Behind her, Lance stood quietly, appearing calm in contrast to her frantic energy. He simply watched Addison, waiting for her to speak. "The surgery ... " Addison pulled off her mask. "Was a success." Her eyes sparkled with a sense of relief that only a doctor could offer a patient's family."That's wonderful!" Marilyn exclaimed, letting out a long breath of relief, her joy obvious. Even Lance, in a corner no one was watching, relaxed. The tension in his shoulders finally eased. "Quick, quick, let's celebrate!" Marilyn cheered. "What about Divine Healer? We need to thank him," she continued. "Divine Healer is washing up in the back. He'll be here soon," Addison answered, still smiling as she pushed Steven's bed, chatting with Marilyn. "I'll push it," Lance suddenly said, reaching out for the bed's handle. The handle was small, and Lance's large hand brushed against Addison's skin in the process.
