The Replacement He Never Wanted
With so much security, anyone who did not know might think she was going to see a high-profile criminal. Lance walked ahead, casually extending his slender fingers to enter the password, acting as if no one else was around. He did not even bother to shield it. Addison blinked, puzzled. Shouldn't he at least cover it up a bit? Wasn't she practically an outsider here? With all this tight security, this definitely did not seem like a place just anyone could access. "Um, do you want me to step aside?" Addison asked hesitantly. "No need," Lance replied without looking back, his focus still on entering the code. As soon as the words left his lips, the door clicked open. "Come in." He held the door open, gesturing for her to enter.Addison hesitated before blurting out, "Why didn't you let Virginia come up?" Lance, hand still on the door handle, seemed caught off guard by the question. He smirked slightly but did not answer. "Sorry, if you don't want to answer, it's fine," Addison quickly added, realizing her question might have been a bit out of line. "Because this isn't a place Virginia belongs." "Then I ... " If Virginia was not supposed to be here, didn't that make her even less qualified? And if that were the case, why had Lance openly revealed the password in front of her? As if sensing her thoughts, Lance raised his head, locking eyes with her, and spoke slowly and deliberately. "You are the mistress of the Johnston Residence. "You belong here." Addison froze, her whole body trembling slightly. MistressoftheJohnstonResidence? She blinked in shock, her mind spinning. Then she glanced at him with suspicion. Wait a second. Did he really say that? Somethingisn'tright. Somethingfeltcompletelyoff. Had Lance lost his mind? Thisisfartoooutofcharacter. She looked at him closely, but his eyes were clear, sincere even, with not a trace of teasing. Oh no. He wasn'tjoking. "I ... Let's just go inside," Addison muttered, her voice flustered. This was too much. She had to retreat. When a man was not acting normal, hiding was the best option. Lowering her head, she darted into the room like a startled rabbit, not giving him any chance to respond. "Hey!" Lance reached out as if to stop her, but she was already gone, leaving only her slender figure behind. He pursed his lips, stood there for a moment, then chuckled lightly. Shaking his head, he closed the door and silently followed after her. A few minutes later, Addison returned, looking disheveled and slightly dirty. Who would have guessed the layout here would be so complicated? She could not find the ward at all. Every door was stainless steel, airtight, and there were no windows to peek inside. "You lead the way," Addison said awkwardly, keeping her head down. A soft chuckle sounded from above her. "Not running anymore? "Weren't you running pretty fast just now?" he teased. "Like a rabbit." Addison pursed her lips, keeping her head down and staying silent.
