The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 450 The Ward

However, moving away was one thing. Lance's current expression looked a bit dangerous. It felt like he was on the verge of exploding. Addison felt a flicker of unease as she pinched her fingers, her beautiful eyes shimmering like spring rain. Yet, this was not just any spring rain—it was like the delicate dew on willows by the pond, exuding a soft, irresistible charm. Lance, who had been a little impatient, happened to glance up and catch her stunned expression. The irritation brewing in his chest suddenly eased. The reproach he was about to deliver got stuck in his throat. Awkwardly, he touched his neck, his face a bit unnatural, and said in a low voice, "Follow me." "Huh?" Addison did not quite catch what he said, but his expression seemed gentler now. That probably was not him scolding her, right? She replayed his tone in her mind, testing it. No, definitely not scolding. Then it hit her—since Lance knew the ward was not on this floor, he had let her wander aimlessly for so long without saying a word. He had done it on purpose! Addison's eyes narrowed slightly as she puffed up in mild frustration, the realization making her feel indignant. Lance glanced at her and caught the shift in her expression. A faint smile tugged at the corners of his mouth, but he quickly suppressed it, schooling his face into a neutral expression as he turned to walk ahead. "Follow me," he said again, this time clearer and with an unexpectedly accommodating tone. The woman's long eyelashes trembled quietly as she followed behind. The two walked in silence, one after the other, first through a long corridor and then turning into a shorter, openwork hallway. At the end of it stood a hidden elevator. Addison raised an eyebrow when she saw the sleek black elevator doors. This elevator ... She had lived at the Johnston Residence for three years and had never noticed it before. Was this something Lance had intentionally kept hidden, or had she simply been too oblivious to see it? Lance pressed the button for the fourth floor, and as the doors slid open, he stepped inside. Addison quickly followed. When the elevator doors closed, the small space felt even smaller, suddenly cramped and stifling. The faint memory of last night resurfaced unbidden. She could almost feel Lance's breath near her ear again, and her entire body went rigid. Addison's mind buzzed as if starved for oxygen. She could not quite place the sensation but felt her chest tighten. "You ... " she started, her voice barely forming, but before she could finish, a soft ding sounded. The doors opened, and Lance had already stepped out. Addison quickly stifled her thoughts and followed him. She had always assumed the fourth floor was just used for storage. However, as soon as she stepped out, the sight before her left her stunned. The entire corridor was lined with bodyguards wearing black sunglasses. The oppressive atmosphere hit her immediately, and the rows of bodyguards, standing motionless and menacing, sent a chill down her spine. Lance lowered his head, pulling something from his pocket and handing it to the bodyguards. Without a word, they moved aside, creating a path. Addison thought they had finally reached the ward as they walked along the polished marble floor, but when she looked up, she saw a thick, reinforced password door. Addison blinked, a little dumbfounded.
