The Replacement He Never Wanted
Virginia gave Addison a deliberate up-and-down glance, her expression carrying a lofty, judgmental air. "Feeling guilty?" She completed her earlier unfinished sentence, her tone dripping with malice and sarcasm. "Guilty?" Addison, dressed in a flowing white outfit with loosely tied ribbons, maintained a serene smile at the corners of her lips. Her entire demeanor exuded elegance. Her calm and composed expression was reminiscent of a gentle summer day, peeking through bamboo blinds to glimpse canna lilies blooming in the courtyard. "Ms. Dolton, about when you followed me and secretly took photos. I haven't even confronted you about that yet. "Are you aware that secretly photographing someone is illegal?" Addison's previously mild gaze turned sharp instantly, her eyes flashing fiercely. "If Ms. Dolton doesn't mind, we can settle this matter right now." Before Virginia could respond, Marilyn interjected, slamming her hand on the table. "Following? Did you follow Addison? And secretly took photos?" In the elite circles of Halton, what kind of woman stoops to such tactics? "Virginia, did you really do something this disgraceful?" Virginia hadn't expected Addison to bring this up out of nowhere and was momentarily caught off guard. "When did I ever follow you? "How can you accuse me out of thin air?" Addison sneered. "Accuse you? I still have the photos you secretly took. Want to take a look?" Virginia had pulled so many stunts that she genuinely couldn't remember if she had followed and photographed Addison. But it did sound like something she might have done. Her expression wavered in uncertainty, and for a moment, she was at a loss for words. Fortunately for her, Addison didn't intend to push her further. After a fleeting glance at Virginia, she turned to Marilyn. "Marilyn, Divine Healer just called to inform me that he'll arrive at the airport this afternoon. "I was planning to go upstairs and do a preliminary check on Mr. Steven first. Is that alright?" Before Addison could finish speaking, Marilyn dropped her fork with a crisp clang. "What? The Divine Healer is coming this afternoon? "Why didn't I know?" Marilyn, usually composed, now looked visibly flustered. Seeing Marilyn's reaction, Addison was momentarily puzzled. "Didn't you tell Marilyn? "I clearly told you yesterday that the doctor would arrive today." She directed her question at Lance. But Lance's expression was cold and indifferent. He acted as if he hadn't heard her at all. Upon closer inspection, his handsome face was rigid, his clenched jaw so tight that the defined contours of his cheekbones were prominently visible. "You ... " Addison couldn't finish her sentence. She had no idea what had provoked Lance this time. Why did Lance get upset at the drop of a hat? And this time, for what reason? She didn't know, nor could she guess. Forget it. Seeing that Lance was ignoring her, she couldn't be bothered to press further. She turned instead to Marilyn and explained in detail. "Divine Healer's flight arrives this afternoon. I'll pick him up then. Before that, I'd like to do a preliminary checkup for Mr. Steven. That way, we won't waste time once the doctor arrives." Such things needed to be clarified. Going upstairs and checking on Steven without Marilyn's consent would not be pleasant. Addison was always mindful of propriety.
