The Replacement He Never Wanted
Virginia nearly snapped the fork in her hands. "Ms. Dolton, are you alright? Do you not like the fork?" Lana placed a plate of meatballs on the dining table and noticed Virginia fiddling aggressively with the fork. She looked surprised. Why would someone visit another person's home and mess with their host's fork? How was anyone else supposed to use them afterward? Being called out, Virginia quickly tossed the fork back onto the table, a sheepish smile crossing her face. Still smiling cheerfully, Marilyn turned her gaze toward the commotion and casually glanced at Virginia. "It's fine, Lana. "We have plenty of forks. Let her mess with them as she pleases." Marilyn understood. When people were upset, they needed something to vent their frustrations on.Still, this kind of behavior was undeniably rude. Of course, Marilyn only gave Virginia a simple mental evaluation and didn't voice her thoughts. On the surface, she maintained a polite smile, keeping up appearances. "If we run out of fork, Lana, just grab some more for Ms. Dolton. "The Johnstons is a very inclusive place. We respect everyone's habits." Virginia heard this and knew that Marilyn was clearly insulting her. Her face darkened with anger. Thisoldhag, whyisshesovenomouswithherwords?! Wasn'tshebasicallycallingmeill-mannered?! If it weren't for Marilyn still having influence over her prospects of marrying into the Johnstons, Virginia would've lashed out at her right then and there. On the other side, Lance had just let go of Addison's slender waist, looking slightly awkward. Perhaps to ease the tense atmosphere, he turned and said, "Someone take that box off the stairs. "If someone trips over it again, you can all pack up and leave the Johnston Residence."His cold tone, coupled with his stern expression, carried an overwhelming pressure. For a moment, the grand Johnston Residence felt like an execution ground, suffocating and oppressive. Hearing his words, the nearby servants quickly scrambled to grab the box, apologizing as they did so. "We're so sorry, Mr. Johnston!" one of them said, holding the box tightly while apologizing repeatedly. "This was our oversight. It won't happen again!" Even though Addison had left the Johnston Residence, Lance still cared about her. Otherwise, he wouldn't have lost his temper over a mere box. After all, Lance rarely got angry with the staff unless it was something serious. Hearing the servant's trembling apology, Lance remained motionless. He raised an eyebrow and loosened his tie with one hand. "Don't apologize to me. You should apologize to Addison. "Whether or not to forgive you is up to her."His tone remained as cold as ever, laced with an undeniable authority. As his words fell, Addison couldn't help but look up at him in surprise. Had he changed? In the past, Lance had never cared about anyone else's feelings, let alone asked the servants to apologize to her. Even if it had been their fault, he would've turned a blind eye and focused entirely on Johnston Enterprise matters, ignoring such trivial issues. What was going on now? Was he actually showing her respect? The servant got the message and immediately turned to Addison, begging forgiveness.
