The Replacement He Never Wanted
"Really?" Lance's sharp eyes fixed intently on Addison, as if he were trying to stare a hole right through her. "Don't believe me?" Addison raised an eyebrow and met his gaze. They locked eyes, the silence thick between them. Addison's expression remained calm and unchanged, Lance began to ease his doubts. Maybe he was just overthinking things. The man awkwardly shifted his gaze away. "It's getting late. We should sleep," he said, his voice stiff and unnatural. Lance lay back on the bed, fully clothed, and after what felt like an eternity, he suddenly heard a faint rustling sound. Soon, the sound of running water came from the bathroom. Lance lay still, his eyes wide open. Had Addison gonetotake a shower? The sound of the water droplets changed in volume. Every tiny noise she made seemed magnified in the stillness. Although he didn't have any particular thoughts, Lance found himself nervously touching his neck. Why did he feel so tense? His body felt as if it were a tightly pulled string. The unease lingered for what seemed like ages, only fading when the sound of water finally stopped. Addison had spent a long time in the bathroom, taking her time, until she finally turned off the faucet with deliberate slowness. Unaware of Lance's torment on the other side of the door, she finished her shower. When Addison opened the bathroom door, a soft, fresh scent filled the room, a clean fragrance that instantly spread throughout the space. Lance instinctively lifted his eyes, and what he saw took him by surprise: Addison, dressed in a delicate spaghetti-strap dress. The thin straps exposed her bare back, smooth and pale. Her skin clung lightly to the graceful curve of her shoulder blades, and her waist curved seductively, a subtle arc that drew his eye.Lance's heart gave a jolt. His lips pressed together in a tight line, and emotions swirled across his face in waves, one after another. The strange feeling stirred once more, growing stronger. In his discomfort, Lance accidentally brushed against something, and the silence was broken by the sound of something falling. Addison, who had been moving to sit on the edge of the bed, jumped in surprise at the noise. Startled, she quickly stepped back, then looked at Lance in confusion. "Y-you're still awake?" She had thought he was asleep when she decided to take a shower. Lance silently sat up. "No," he replied, his gaze awkward, clearly avoiding her eyes. "Hey—maybe you should stay lying down." Addison immediately understood what Lance was trying to avoid. She took a step back, grabbing a towel to awkwardly drape over herself. She hadn't packed many clothes for this trip, and certainly hadn't expected to end up in the same room as Lance. Her dress was revealing. After rummaging through her suitcase, she found something a little more modest, but now, under Lance's gaze, she couldn't help but feel that even this outfit was somewhat too revealing. Lance, watching through the dim light, noticed the flustered expression on Addison's face. For some reason, he felt a strange sense of pleasure. He had always thought of Addison as calm and composed, but now, he found her surprisingly endearing. The man silently smiled to himself, then murmured, "Okay."
