The Replacement He Never Wanted
Georgina rolled her eyes at her brother's dramatic complaint. "With 100 bodyguards hovering around you, even a mosquito couldn't get close. If someone's at risk, it's definitely not you." In her opinion, anyone could claim to be a victim—except Jasper. His bodyguards were all towering and menacing, intimidating enough to frighten people just by standing nearby. Approaching him wasn't even an option for most. On the other end of the call, Jasper raised an eyebrow at her retort, sounding almost offended. "Wow, is that how you justify ignoring me? You're unbelievable." Georgina could practically picture his expression through the phone. If she were standing next to him, she'd probably get a light flick on the forehead followed by a lecture. She chose to ignore his exaggerated reaction."If you need something, just let me know. I'll bring you whatever food or drink you want," she said, her attention shifting back to Virginia. Leaning forward, Georgina gently held Virginia's hand, her tone soft and caring. She didn't have many friends in Kreshill. The daughters of the affluent families there were always plotting and scheming, constantly up to something. She found it intolerable and struggled to fit in with them. Her direct nature made it easy for her to unintentionally offend others in such a manipulative group. Georgina lacked the defenses or patience to navigate their complex social games. She preferred simplicity and fairness, detesting those who bullied or acted superior. Whenever Georgina witnessed injustice in Kreshill, she couldn't resist stepping in to help. Her habit earned her countless scoldings, but she remained steadfast, always standing up for those who couldn't defend themselves. In this regard, she saw a kindred spirit in Virginia. Virginia seemed genuinely kind, with a gentle demeanor and eyes as clear as the sky.She acted with sincerity, never pretending to be better than others like many of the other women. Meeting someone with a personality somewhat like her own, Georgina felt she had finally found a true friend and wanted to cherish this connection. Meanwhile, Jasper, listening to his sister's unusually gentle tone over the phone, raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "Where are you? And who's with you?" he asked. Georgina, annoyed, retorted, "Why does it matter? I already report to Dad and Grandpa—do I need to report to you too?" She wasn't interested in dealing with Jasper. "Since you're so concerned, can't I be curious?" Jasper seemed to think for a moment, and his tone shifted. "Have you got a boyfriend?" She was momentarily speechless, then replied, "Stop talking nonsense. It's just a friend." "A friend?" Jasper raised an eyebrow. "You care about your friend way more than you care about me." "You have enough bodyguards. Are they just getting paid to do nothing? Let them worry about you instead.""Are bodyguards supposed to care for me the same way you do? You don't care at all. You're so cold-hearted," Jasper said, dragging out the words as if looking for a fight. Georgina rolled her eyes in annoyance. She could tell Jasper was being dramatic again. "Just say what you want to. No need for all this nonsense. If you've got nothing else, I'm hanging up." She was about to end the call when Jasper quickly stopped her. "Wait, don't hang up. Grandpa wants you to hurry to Daves Residence. If you don't, I'll be in trouble." He finally remembered his purpose to call her. "Who? Grandpa wants to see me? And he wants me to go to ... Daves Residence?" Georgina froze in place, her expression showing surprise. "Why would I be going there? I don't even know the Daves." "How would I know why he wants you there? Just go. That's all you need to do. If you don't, I'll be in trouble."Jasper set his phone down and casually picked up a cigarette from the table. The bodyguard beside him quickly stepped forward and lit the cigarette for him. "From the way Grandpa sounded, it seems pretty urgent. You should go now. If you don't have a car, I can take you to Daves Residence." Georgina didn't respond. Jasper raised an eyebrow and asked again, "Did you hear me?" Georgina didn't hear him. She stood still by Virginia's bed, feeling uneasy. Virginia, lying on the bed, appeared calm but felt her heart race upon hearing about the Daves. Daves Residence? Is it Addison? Piecing things together, Virginia quickly realized—Addison must be plotting revenge. Virginia thought Addison was holding a grudge over the Medical Symposium incident. After being locked in the dressing room, Addison had to be furious. Now, back at the Daves with their support, she was likely planning something big.Virginia's expression darkened at the thought. If Addison knows Georgina was involved, does she also know it was me who locked her in all night? If she knows that I locked her up and left her freezing all night, she'll seek revenge fiercely. The idea made Virginia feel nervous, her hands clenching with fear. "What else did Grandpa say? Did he just tell me to go and didn't explain anything?" Georgina was confused. She couldn't figure out why she was being called to the Daves. "He didn't say anything else. Just told me to get you moving. You better go, or I'll truly be in trouble." Georgina didn't respond immediately, then sighed and muttered, "Fine." As soon as the call ended, Virginia's voice was heard softly. "Georgina, do you have something important to do?" Her eyes were gentle, her tone kind without pushing too hard. Though Virginia had already guessed why Georgina was called to Daves, she kept her calm, not revealing her thoughts."If you need to go, don't worry about me. I'll manage on my own," she said. Georgina glanced at Virginia and nodded. "I do have something to take care of." She paused, adding, "Rest up. I'll come check on you when I can." With that, Georgina grabbed her bag and hurried out of the ward. ... About half an hour later, Georgina arrived at the gates of Daves Residence. She took off her sunglasses and looked up at the grand entrance. The sheer magnitude of the place left her in awe. It was her first visit to Daves Residence, and she was stunned by its scale. Even the Hamiltons didn't have anything this impressive. She walked up, knocked on the door, introduced herself, and a maid led her inside. After a few twists and turns, she finally made it to the living room.As she entered the hall and looked around, a familiar face caught her eye. Georgina's heart skipped a beat. Isn't that Addison? Why is she here at the Daves?
