The Replacement He Never Wanted
Georgina looked at the talisman on the shelf, her expression one of astonishment. She stepped forward to examine it more closely. The talisman displayed a classic design, with delicate engravings that instantly conveyed a deep sense of history. It was clear that this talisman was of exceptional value, something no ordinary person could purchase. Even Georgina, who had grown up in a wealthy family with every luxury, had seldom come across such a fine talisman. Within the entire Hamiltons, only a few could afford such a priceless item, most likely only her father could acquire something like this. But could Addison really afford such an object? She simply set it on the shelf without worrying about it being taken by anyone? Georgina's expression darkened. She moved closer and her body tense. Perhaps this talisman didn't belong to her after all. Maybe she had taken it from someone else? But as she drew nearer, the word "Angel" on it became increasingly visible. It's Addison's nickname. Would anyone gift something so clearly marked with their name? It could only mean this talisman was indeed Addison's. Georgina's expression shifted, now looking very displeased. At that moment, she ignored the interference and rescued Virginia from Samuel's grasp. When she pressed Samuel to reveal who had ordered to kidnap Virginia, he remained silent, maintaining his honor. If not for Jim's keen observations, she wouldn't have uncovered a weakness in this group of criminals. Otherwise, Samuel would have kept his lips tightly shut. The words he spoke back then were still fresh in her memory. She was certain she hadn't misunderstood. Addison truly intended to harm Virginia, just as Virginia had claimed. She even went as far as to hire someone to kidnap Virginia. Her boldness and cruelty were beyond belief! She dared to act so recklessly. Didn't she fear getting caught by the police and ending up in prison? She had initially thought that even if Addison was ruthless, it wouldn't be so severe, at most, just a few minor threats toward Virginia. She never imagined that behind Addison's beautiful face lay such a malicious heart. Georgina fixed her gaze on the talisman, a whirlwind of emotions building inside her, as she instinctively reached for the pendant. Her hand was just about to brush the edge of the talisman when, out of nowhere, another hand stopped her. A sharp voice rang out. "Ms. Hamilton, what do you think you're doing? "It's not proper to handle someone else's belongings without permission." With those words, Addison took the talisman from her hand and held it herself. Georgina was taken aback by the unexpected gesture, nearly jumping in surprise. When she turned and saw Addison staring at her with disapproval, a wave of fear washed over her. "I ... I was just taking a look." Georgina sheepishly pulled her hand back, feeling embarrassed. Addison raised an eyebrow. "Just taking a look? Is it necessary to touch it? "If you damage it, you won't be able to afford the cost of replacing it." She spoke nonchalantly as she tucked the talisman inside her skirt carefully. Unless someone paid close attention, no one would notice the talisman hidden there. "What are you acting so arrogant for?" Georgina observed her rude behavior, her voice laced with irritation. Even though she understood she couldn't afford such a pricey talisman ... She couldn't let Addison get the better of her. At the very least, she refused to lose in a verbal confrontation! She had to stand up for her pride."Me, arrogant?" Addison's face showed a brief moment of confusion, nearly causing her to laugh in frustration. No one had ever called her "arrogant" before, not since she was a child. If she recalled correctly, Georgina had just insulted her as "ugly", hadn't she? Addison's expression immediately turned unreadable. Well, today she set a new record for being provoked by Georgina. "What's so impressive about a talisman you won't even let others touch? Do you really think it's something extraordinary?"Georgina sneered. Addison gave a smile, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. "It's really nothing impressive, not worth your attention, Ms. Hamilton. "You must have many valuable items, right? You should bring them over for me to check out another time," Addison said with a straight face. At this, Georgina felt a little uncomfortable, her voice softening. "My family certainly has plenty of fine things!" But only a few talismans like the one Addison held. Though unsure, Georgina raised her voice, trying to lift her spirits. "My family's treasures aren't for just anyone to see!" In other words, Addison was not deemed worthy of witnessing the riches of their family. Addison gazed at her with a blank expression. A girl like Georgina, naive and inexperienced, with a simple mind, was easy for her to see through. She immediately noticed the guilt in Georgina's eyes. However, she couldn't be bothered to call her out, offering a faint smile instead. "Since you say so, let's drop it. The Hamiltons are so esteemed, I'm not worthy to visit." She played along with Georgina's act. Upon hearing this, Georgina raised an eyebrow, looking at her in surprise. She hadn't expected Addison to be so quick to adjust. Her opinion of Addison improved a bit. But just a little. The fact that she had hired someone to kidnap Virginia was unforgivable, no matter how charming her behavior was. Georgina stood still, expressionless, observing Addison's movements. Then she cleared her throat and said calmly, "Ms. Daves, you can change here. I'll take my leave now." Addison glanced up at her. Just moments ago, Georgina had seemed hesitant to leave, why was she suddenly ready to go? Before she could respond, Georgina opened the door and left, as if there were something urgent she had to attend to. Addison lifted her gaze and looked behind her, feeling confused. However, since her grandfather was about to arrive, she didn't have the time to think about the situation further, so she let Georgina leave. She glanced down and carefully adjusted the new dress she was wearing. Next, she placed the wool blanket that had been draped around her shoulders into her bag, planning to return it to the man she had just encountered. As for the dress stained with wine ... Addison paused to think. If she held the wool blanket, there would be no way to keep hold of the dress. After a brief moment of thought, she pursed her lips and decided to toss the dress into the trash. Even though it was a high-end designer piece, the money didn't matter to her. She believed discarding it was the wisest choice. Without a hint of emotion, she discarded the dress into the trash and then nonchalantly grabbed the lipstick from the shelf to touch up her lips. With a swipe of deep red, her lips regained their color, and she looked as graceful as ever. Wearing the dark red one-shoulder dress, she appeared even more stunning. Once everything was in place, she picked up her bag and went to open the door. However, as her hand touched the door, it wouldn't open, no matter how hard she tried. What was happening? A slight furrow appeared on her brow, and a sense of unease began to stir within her. Her face turned serious as she pressed harder on the door, but it still wouldn't open. The sense of unease in her intensified. This time, she set her bag down and pushed with all her might, but the door remained stubbornly shut. A realization struck her. Had someone intentionally locked the door?
