The Replacement He Never Wanted
When Lance heard Georgina mention Virginia, a faint emotion flickered in his chest. It seemed he had truly forgotten about Virginia. Though a slight sense of guilt crept in, his expression stayed perfectly calm. With an icy tone, he asked, "What connection do you have with Virginia? "Mind your own business, it's not a good habit to meddle in other people's family matters." His voice carried a clear warning, showing his disapproval of Georgina's interference. Georgina let out a soft laugh. "Mind my own business? "If it weren't for me, Virginia would have been killed by those bandits! Without me, would you even have the chance to see her now? "My bond with Virginia is deep. I'm the one who saved her life. "Besides, you do have a relationship with Virginia, even more than I do. But did you look after her? Where were you when she was on the brink of death?" Lance avoided meeting the question with his gaze. He had been caught up with numerous responsibilities at the company, so Virginia had slipped his mind. He hadn't even known she had been captured by bandits and hurt her leg. If he hadn't gotten that ointment from his mother's place, made by the Daves, Virginia wouldn't have healed so quickly. Thinking this way, Lance felt a slight sense of relief. He furrowed his brows and quickly shifted the topic. "So you're the one who saved Virginia?" Why didn't he recall that? Georgina scoffed, "Naturally, it was me." Lance scrutinized the woman closely, his expression tinged with suspicion. He had no idea who Georgina was or what her background was. He simply assumed she was just another guest at the event. Lance thought to himself. That night, Virginia had stepped out of the car with an injured leg. It appeared that this woman was the one who had brought her to the Johnstons. Thinking about it, Lance's expression softened just a little. "My apologies, I didn't recall that earlier," he said, his voice now gentler. Georgina shrugged nonchalantly, her tone relaxed. "I didn't say that to expect any thanks. "I just want to ask, have you found the people who kidnapped Ms. Dolton? Or do you even plan to look for them?" The kidnappers ... It seemed that he really hadn't looked into it. Lance frowned, his gaze growing more thoughtful and conflicted. He must have been caught up with something else at the time, which made him forget to look into the matter. His mind had been focused on Virginia's injury, and with the company barely recovering from the brink of bankruptcy, there was simply no time to deal with anything else. "Some things at the company got delayed," the man said indifferently. Things get delayed? Georgina scoffed. She knew this man was unreliable! After his woman was taken by kidnappers, he didn't even try to hold them accountable, just letting them go. "Are you just waiting for those kidnappers to take Virginia again? "Do you think one near-death experience for Virginia isn't enough, and now you want her to die a second time?" Georgina's tone was filled with fury, clearly displeased with Lance. However, her accusations only seemed to enrage him further. He had never been spoken to with such disrespect. He was someone who always acted with confidence and made firm decisions, and no one had ever questioned his authority. Who did she think she was to criticize him? "I will protect my woman. There's no need for you to be concerned."The cold, low voice escaped from his lips, sharp with an emotionless edge, his eyes narrowing with a dark glare. It was ridiculous for him to claim he would protect her. Georgina found this remark utterly absurd and was about to lash out at him, but then she recalled her primary mission. She had come to teach Addison on behalf of Virginia, and as for Lance ... She could deal with him later. Hastily, she turned around to find Addison. But there was no sign of her. Addison was gone. Where had she gone? Georgina suddenly felt a sense of urgency, realizing she couldn't let her get away. Annoyed, she shot a fiery glare at Lance. It was all his fault, making her lose focus on her main task. Noticing her lack of remorse and her hostile glare, Lance's expression darkened even more. "What are you searching for?" "What am I searching for? I'm looking for the woman who was just arguing with you," Georgina snapped back. He frowned. "Do you know Addison?" Georgina shot him a glance but didn't bother to answer. "Does it concern you?" He should be more focused on Virginia right now. "Mr. Johnston, shouldn't you go check on Virginia? "She's all alone at this Medical Symposium, being bullied by others." Georgina had seen Virginia surrounded by a group of haughty and overbearing young ladies. Having grown up in Kreshill, Georgina was very familiar with the attitudes of the young ladies in that social circle. Virginia's gentle and delicate nature was no match for their cruelty. If she hadn't intervened earlier, she wasn't sure how badly Virginia would have been mistreated."Virginia is being bullied?" Lance looked slightly shocked. "If you have any conscience left, go check on Virginia," she said, pointing to her left. Lance wanted to say something further, but Georgina had already turned and left with those words, eager to find Addison. He could only watch her walk away, think for a moment, and then head in the direction she had indicated. ... Taking advantage of Lance and Georgina's not paying attention, Addison lowered her head and slipped away unnoticed. She didn't like either of these two people and didn't want their assistance. Lance didn't even need to be mentioned. As for Georgina, she found it odd that she was so eager to help her without any apparent reason. No merit, no reward. On top of that, Georgina had already been tricked by Virginia, and it was possible she was sent by Virginia to cause her trouble. She wasn't about to let Georgina help her. Addison asked the server for a napkin to quickly wipe off the spot on her dress. As the server handed her the napkin, he noticed the wound on her hand. "Miss, your wound ... " the server said, sounding a bit uneasy. Upon hearing this, Addison glanced at her hand. The cut on her hand hadn't healed yet and was still slowly bleeding. The red blood dripped down, with some even falling to the ground, drawing attention. Addison raised an eyebrow. She had initially thought it was a small cut that didn't need much attention, but she hadn't expected it to still be bleeding. It was clear that the glass had caused a deep cut, not just a minor scratch. "Would you like me to help with that?" the waiter asked, looking at her. Addison's continuously bleeding wound seemed very painful, and there was more than one spot."But I'm not sure where the supplies for treating the wound are ... " the waiter said, his voice anxious. Addison shook her head. "It's fine." As a doctor, she knew that although the cut was a little deep, it wasn't anything serious. It would just hurt a little. It wasn't a big issue. Besides, searching for the supplies to treat the wound would take too long. She quickly grabbed her phone and dialed Gordon's number. "I'm at the Medical Symposium in Preigh, and I need a gown." Her voice was steady and firm, with an air of calm indifference, as though the wound didn't bother her in the slightest.
