The Replacement He Never Wanted

Chapter 241 Get the Invitation

Virginia spoke in a series of sentences, each one filled with genuine concern, as if she was truly distressed over Steven's condition. "Don't cry, don't cry," Georgina said, watching Virginia suddenly burst into tears. She was a little lost for what to do. "Every problem has a solution; things will work out when the time comes. You mustn't cry," Georgina reassured her. Virginia nodded, wiping away her tears. "Okay, I won't cry," she said. After wiping away the few tears on her face, Virginia seemed to realize only then that her behavior might not have been appropriate. A little embarrassed, she said, "Ms. Hamilton, I'm sorry. I lost my composure just now. It was quite rude of me." She said this, but her soft demeanor remained unchanged. Georgina waved her hand, dismissing it. "It's fine. You're just worried about Mr. Steven, and that's why you cried. It's nothing." Virginia looked at her with gratitude, almost as if she wanted to bow to her. "Thank you so much, Ms. Hamilton, for your understanding. "Even though Mr. Steven doesn't treat me well and doesn't like me, he is still my elder, and I respect him," Virginia said. The implication was clear. Although Steven treated her poorly, she was a kind-hearted person, compassionate and selfless, never holding any grudges. She was still very kind to him. It was almost as if she was praising herself in a roundabout way. Addison, standing behind them, watched silently, her face expressionless as Virginia continued with her lies. Virginia had used these same tactics countless times in front of Lance, and Addison was already worn out of them. Didn't she have any new tricks? Addison pressed her lips together, her patience wearing thin as she watched Virginia continue her performance."Since Mr. Steven got sick, I've been going to the hospital twice a day. I can't rest easy knowing someone else is taking care of him. "But then I was kidnapped and hurt my leg," Virginia said, glancing at her leg. "I couldn't visit him anymore. I wonder when he'll wake up. "If I'd been kidnapped just a little later, I might've had more time to find a doctor for Mr. Steven. Maybe he wouldn't be in this state now," Virginia lamented, her brow furrowing, her face full of self-blame. Ultimately, I'm to blame for the unfortunate timing of the kidnapping. How could I hurt my leg while Steven was sick?" Georgina frowned and grabbed Virginia's hand. "Ms. Dolton, please don't say that! "Being kidnapped isn't something that can be timed. The leg injury is your pain, and even with such a severe injury, you're still thinking about others," Georgina said, her voice full of sympathy. "You're just too kind," Georgina added. Virginia lowered her eyes, the corners of her eyes reddening. Georgina couldn't help but feel moved by Virginia's demeanor. Coming from the Hamiltons, being the only daughter, Georgina had been raised in luxury and was used to being protected, never seeing the darker side of society. Her sense of justice was naive, and she was quick to judge wrongdoers, her personality straightforward and blunt. But this didn't mean she was naive about distinguishing right from wrong or recognizing people's true nature. The Hamiltons were a famous, respected family in Kreshill, surrounded by relatives who were either calculating or vain, always scheming and fighting for position. Georgina had grown worn out of them long ago. Yet, despite her experiences, she had rarely met a girl as delicate and kind-hearted as Virginia. The only time she had met such a genuinely kind girl was when she was very young at a party held by the Daves. A girl had stepped forward to protect her when she was at a loss, and Georgina still remembered how serene and clear her smile had been. Georgina was drawn to kind-hearted women.Snapping out of her thoughts, Georgina asked, "Is Mr. Steven's condition really that serious?" "Yes," Virginia nodded slightly. Georgina thought for a moment, then spoke directly. "My family will likely have a few invitations for the Medical Symposium. I'll get one for you." "Really?!" Virginia said, her voice full of surprise, as if she couldn't believe her luck. "Of course, I always keep my word." Virginia's face lit up with excitement. She seemed worried that Georgina might change her mind, so she hurried to say, "Thank you so much, Ms. Hamilton! You're Mr. Steven's savior!" As she spoke, Virginia moved to bow, intending to express her gratitude to Georgina right then and there. Perhaps she thought this would show Georgina her sincerity, but she didn't care about the others in the room watching and bowing. All she heard was a swoosh. Georgina was startled and quickly reached out to help her up. "Please, get up, get up. "There are so many people watching, and your leg is still injured." Georgina was quick to pull Virginia back up. "Such a big favor shouldn't be repaid with words. Once Mr. Steven's health is restored, I'll have Lance invite you to our home." Georgina quickly waved her hands. "No, no, it's okay. You're exaggerating. It was just a small favor, really." Addison silently observed the whole scene, her expression unchanging. It wasn't until Virginia bowed that her face finally showed some emotion. Virginia was so determined to get what she wanted, willing to bow without hesitation or regard for the occasion. It was impressive, to say the least. She had been listening to their conversation for some time. Up until now, Virginia hadn't mentioned anything negative about the divine healer. The whole discussion had been centered around the invitation to the Medical Symposium, clearly aimed at getting it. But Addison knew that Virginia wasn't after the invitation to save Steven. After all, Steven's current state was entirely Virginia's doing. If Steven didn't make it while remaining in a vegetative state, wouldn't that suit Virginia just fine? Why then was she so desperate for the invitation? Addison couldn't understand. She pursed her lips and stopped listening to the conversation, turning to leave. As she walked a few steps, she heard a saleswoman calling after her. "Miss, where have you been? I've been looking for you everywhere!" The voice wasn't too loud, but it was high-pitched due to the saleswoman's excitement, and everyone nearby could hear clearly. Addison nodded. "Just taking a walk." "Do you need me to sign the paper?" "Yes, everything is ready; we just need your signature!" the saleswoman replied. "Let's go then." Addison walked toward the back room. Virginia, still sitting, keenly heard the voice behind her. The voice sounded so much like Addison's. Because of her hatred for Addison, Virginia paid close attention to anything related to her. That voice really did sound like Addison's. Virginia quickly turned around to take a look. But all she saw was the saleswoman rushing off. Had she heard wrong? Virginia stared at the saleswoman's retreating figure, doubting herself. "Ms. Dolton, what's wrong?" Georgina asked, following Virginia's gaze. "Nothing." Virginia quickly turned her head back. "I thought I saw someone I knew." It couldn't have been Addison. There was no way it was just a coincidence that Addison was here today to buy a car.Virginia took a deep breath, calming herself. She should be happy that she was about to receive the invitation—an invitation so rare that even Lance couldn't get his hands on it. Now it was hers! Thinking this, Virginia smiled again.
