The Replacement He Never Wanted
Isaac stood behind, observing the subtle and intimate interaction between Virginia and Lance, a satisfied expression on his face. Everything was going according to Virginia's plan; his task was complete. Virginia nestled in the man's arms, tentatively reaching out to encircle his strong waist. Lance stiffened, sensing her movements. However, he didn't stop her. Virginia, sensing there was no rejection, smiled and interpreted his silence as permission. Boldly, she wrapped her arms tightly around Lance's waist. His body radiated heat, an intoxicating warmth laced with a strong, undeniable scent of masculinity. The feeling was exhilarating. Virginia closed her eyes in contentment, savoring the warmth and sensation of the man's body against hers. As she lost herself in the moment, Lance's voice, cool and distant, broke through. "Let go." "Huh?" She opened her eyes in surprise. Virginia realized she had been moved to the edge of the sofa. Lance stood in front of her, his expression cold as he looked down at her. "Alright." Virginia pursed her lips, reluctantly loosening her arms around his waist, though her face showed a hint of unwillingness. In that moment, she hated how small the living room was, wishing the space could somehow stretch so she could hold onto him just a little longer. She hadn't had enough of his warmth yet. Lance noticed that she had finally released him. He slowly bent down and gently lowered her onto the couch, careful to avoid touching her injured leg. As he did, Virginia's hair brushed against his neck, releasing a faint, captivating fragrance. The scent filled his senses, carrying with it a wave of memories. The fragrance—he had loved it when they were together years ago. It brought back countless memories, flooding Lance's mind in an instant. Lance felt a brief moment of shaking.Virginia tilted her head back, her eyes sparkling with anticipation as she watched Lance. She didn't miss a single shift in his expression. She had deliberately worn that particular scent, hoping it would bring their past back to him. If Lance could divorce Addison for her, she refused to believe that their shared memories wouldn't be enough to stir his heart. Indeed, Lance seemed momentarily caught off guard. Virginia quickly noticed the fleeting change in his face. Though brief, it was real, and it made her believe he was beginning to soften. Plan accomplished! A bright smile spread across Virginia's lips as she reached out to embrace Lance. But in the next instant, someone shoved her away. "Sit still. Don't move," Lance's voice was sharp and cold. Virginia's hand froze in mid-air, and she sat back on the sofa, her face flushed with embarrassment. How could Lance push her away? Confused, Virginia wondered, Was he still angry with her? It had been so long since the incident where she lied to him, and yet he hadn't forgiven her? This wasn't how she thought things would go. Usually, all it took was a little patience and a show of vulnerability, and he would forgive her without a second thought. But this time, even after she had been kidnapped, her leg badly injured, why was Lance showing no sympathy? Virginia couldn't understand it, puzzled about where things had gone wrong. After placing her on the sofa, Lance moved to the side, maintaining some distance from her. Virginia looked up. Lance stood just in front of her, but it felt as though an unbridgeable chasm had opened up between them. Despite being so close, he felt distant in a way she couldn't grasp. Her feelings were a tangled mess.Maybe that day she had made the wrong choice. Maybe she shouldn't have lied to him. Now, it seemed that the connection between her and Lance was beyond repair. "Francesca, Ms. Dolton's wound is bleeding again. Can't you see that?" Lance spoke, his posture stiff, as he turned to look at Francesca, who had been standing quietly in the corner. "I see it, I see it. I'll bandage Ms. Dolton right away," Francesca replied, flustered as she hurried over. Before Lance had arrived, Virginia had asked Francesca not to disturb her time with him. So, Francesca had stayed obediently in the corner, not daring to interrupt their private moment. Though Francesca approached, she hesitated, glancing at Virginia with some unease. Virginia, who had just been rejected in front of the assistant and Rosa, was already feeling frustrated and a little humiliated. Seeing Francesca's hesitant gaze, Virginia nodded at her impatiently, signaling her to proceed with Lance's instructions. Francesca picked up the hint. She swiftly picked up the bandages from the table before kneeling to tend to Virginia's wound. Lance's gaze was fixed on Virginia's pale leg, where the wound stood out, red and angry. The injury was swollen and oozing blood, its vivid color against her delicate skin making it seem even worse than it was. Her legs were slim, which made the wound appear larger than it was, and it stretched across nearly half of her leg, looking gruesome. Lance stared coldly at the bleeding wound, his expression unreadable. "Don't go running around with your leg like this," he said finally. Virginia quickly responded, "But I miss you, and I don't want to stay alone in the apartment. It feels so suffocating. "I want to be with you, Lance. Besides, I'm not afraid of pain. This little ache is nothing compared to being with you." "No," he said, his brow furrowed. Virginia tried to act cute. However, I find myself isolated here. I can't go anywhere, and it's so boring."Lance remained unmoved, his face serious, as if her attempts at coaxing him had no effect. "The company's busy," he said flatly. Virginia fell silent, feeling embarrassed, but she wasn't ready to give up. "If you won't let me come to the company, then I won't ... But other girls get to go out shopping or see the sights. Why can't I go anywhere?" Lance said nothing. After a long pause, Lance looked at Francesca, still crouched by her side. "How long will it take for the wound to heal?" "Well, it should take about a month," Francesca replied, hesitating slightly before answering. Lance's brows furrowed. "A month?" "Y-yes." Without another word, Lance beckoned to his assistant. "Isaac, come here." Isaac, unsure of what was happening, walked over nervously. "Mr. Johnston, I'm here. What would you like me to do?" Lance's sharp eyes focused on Virginia's wound. He directed, "Go home and tell my mother to bring over the medicine I bought at the auction. That medicine is specifically designed to heal this kind of injury quickly." "Right now?" Isaac asked, confused. "Yes, quickly, then come back," Lance instructed. "Francesca, stop with the bandaging for now. We'll use the medicine. It works faster." Virginia had been feeling down, but when she heard Lance's words, her eyes lit up in surprise.
