She Was Reborn 10 Minutes Before the Apocalypse… What Happened Next Shocked Everyone
Nadia went to the balcony in her sleepwear. While the typhoon was still raging, the wind was beginning to subside as the rain intensified. The second level was fully flooded with the water climbing up to the third, causing chaos in the corridor. Nadia had cooked breakfast—wraps with fried egg, ham, vegetables, and tomato sauce, which remained warm and crisp after being removed from the space and smelt delicious. She had prepared over a hundred inside the space which should sustain her for a while; they were still greasy despite tasting good. Afterward, she browsed her sophomore pharmacy major book while drinking her honey pomelo tea. A knock came on the door around ten. She had thought it to be Jasmine but was taken aback at the sight of the man from 1801 as he was usually reserved and quiet. They had not even talked despite Lily's constant visits, which sent her alarm bells ringing. He looked anxious. "Lily's ill. Can you heal her?"Nadia was shocked. "What is it?" "Fever, diarrhea, throwing up, delirium." They had to go to a hospital but could not go out in this weather, so she warned him, "I can help take a look, but I only know the basics. Don't expect too much of me." "Thanks." She grudgingly agreed on the basis that he had killed someone and gotten rid of the body before returning to stow a foldable knife into a pocket. It was her first time in the three-roomed apartment, which was pretty large as well as having good lighting and arrangements. Old furniture filled the living room, which was extremely clean and so much better than her pigsty. It was rare to find guys who did the chores now. She looked up to the window leading to the balcony to see it had been recently fitted with two layers of reinforced glass and three layers of stainless steel gates, making the house seem like a fort. Well, it seemed she had not had enough experience in this. She looked away and headed to Lily's room, where Lily was burning up and suffering a rash. Lily's gaze was tired. "Nadia." Nadia checked her temperature, pulse, and vital signs, as well as her bruised body; her medical skills were amateurish but were enough for the task Nadia stared at resident 1801. "She's weak. Adequate exercise can help improve her stamina and immune system, but she should not overdo it." She did not know how he had trained Lily, but it was clear from Lily's bruised body that he had drained her completely. High-intensity training within such a short time had instead stressed her body, lowering and messing up her immunity which made her get the flu. Wasn't it obvious from the diarrhea, vomiting, and rash? She knew he did not know how to raise kids but hadn't realized he was so bad at it. Harrison looked extremely regretful after realizing the cause of her condition. "I did not care for her properly."He had been taken aback by the terrifying bruises on his baby sister, as she had never complained of tiredness and even reassured with a smile that it was not painful. He grabbed his medical kit filled with medicines. "Nadia, see which of those can help." They would have to venture out to the hospital if nothing worked. Nadia rifled through the box, not expecting how comprehensive everything was; most of it were even pediatric medicines. It was a minor condition which only required treatment of its symptoms, so she found flu and gastrointestinal medicines while also applying a herbal plaster on Lily's bellybutton. "When you're better. Let's regulate her body and go from there." She could not stand the sight of the bruises and returned to get some ointment. "Apply four to five times daily. Massaging will make it more effective." Harrison thanked her. "Lily gets bumped easily. I have some herbs here too, so help me see which of those can be preserved in wine." Despite not being good at caring for kids, but he did have plenty of stuff prepared. He took two big sacks of herbs from another room which were all individually packed and sealed against moisture. Nadia picked out more than ten varieties which promoted blood flow. "Put them in glass jars, top up with one litre of white wine. It can be used after half a month." She picked out the Korean ginseng too. "You can do the same to this too. Taking half a sip during cold weather can warm the body and replenish energy, though it's best not taken for kids." Upon noticing some Korean ginseng, she set it aside. "This can also be used for soaking. Drinking half a cup when it's cold not only warms the body but also nourishes the blood and qi. However, it's not recommended for children." Rock sugar and white wine was great too, since it could get rid of heat while also nourishing the ood and kidneys. That's enough. You're starving yourself while teaching your skills. Lily dozed off after eating her medicines, though she kept saying strange things. She looked extremely pitiful with teardrops on her lashes while muttering through pale lips, "Mommy. I want Mommy. Daddy…" Harrison sat by the bed and gently wiped her tears, sounding regretful. "It's okay, I'm here." It was clear he loved his sister but hadn't gone about it the right way. Nadia was stopped by resident 1801, who handed her a pack of instant noodles. "Thanks for helping Lily." It had been cheap pre-apocalypse but sustain someone for several more days. Nadia accepted it gracefully and returned home to fill a glass jar with rock sugar and white wine. "I would have forgotten if I had not taught this to someoe else." Having a glassful of this in freezing weather around the fire was a relaxing prospect. She also took several kilos of grapes before washing them and drying them on the balcony to be made into fruit wine. However, she could sense the typhoon had changed again after leaving her space. She had not been the only one as many cheered and shouted at their windows upon realizing this. They could not control their enthusiasm and felt like things were nearly over. Feeling great, Nadia took some steamed fish to go with her rice, reluctant to discard her takeaway container afterward. Despite having of those in her space, these were uncompostables and could be reused after washing. She was awoken from a satisfying nap by the sounds of revving motors—rescue boats filled with firemen in orange lifejackets. While the disaster had not stopped, it was weakening rapidly which made things safe as long as they avoided the powerful winds and currents. It had been eighteen days of complete disconnection with the world, with hope finally arriving just when everything had been exhausted. Many broke down at the sight of the boats. "Help's here. The authorities had not given up on us yet…" They were laughing and sobbing in both panic and eagerness, rubbing their tears. There were only three boats, but they bore the hope that everyone could survive. The horn sounded, and the firefighters assured each resident, "Stay calm, we won't leave anyone behind. We're going to go floor by floor, grab essential items, and make sure to get the elderly and children out first." While the rescue teams concentrated on those in the flooded lower floors, many people from the unaffected units came down and gathered around the firefighters. "Our homes are still fine, but what are we supposed to do without food and water?" they asked. "My family hasn't eaten properly for three days and we've been drinking rainwater. Can you give us something to eat?" "Why did you come with nothing? Isn't it the government's job to help us? We're all taxpayers. Without our support, how can you keep going?" As more people joined in, things started to get chaotic, and the questions became more frantic. What started as gratitude quickly turned into frustration, with a clear message: they wouldn't let the firefighters leave without a proper explanation.
