Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 8 – I Have Proof

The maid nervously spoke up. "My name is Casey Smith." Before long, the butler came downstairs to report, "Alpha, Luna, we found these in the bottom drawer of Ms. Beck's coat rack." Inside a black plastic bag was a diamond bracelet and a jeweled necklace. Everyone looked surprised. They actually found the missing jewelry in my room? Regina's face twisted with rage. "Robin, what more is there to say? Look at what kind of woman you've chosen for your son. It's bad enough she comes from some tiny backwater—now we know she's a thief too!" "It couldn't have been Raelyn," Robin said firmly. Taylor stood off to the side, pretending to be sympathetic. "Yeah, maybe there's been a misunderstanding?" I remained silent. The room fell into an awkward tension until Aiden stepped forward and said, "Dad, Mom, I think we should run a fingerprint test. If Raelyn really did it, her prints will definitely be on the jewelry." Robin turned to me. "Raelyn, what do you think?"I nodded calmly. Regina chimed in, "Fine. If it turns out she stole them, then she has to break off the engagement and leave Eclipse Pack." I had no objection. The butler carefully collected the jewelry and sent it out for testing. Since the results would take time, Robin told everyone to head to the dining room for dinner. Once we sat down, Adrian looked at me with a smug grin and said, "Raelyn, this might be the last good meal you ever have. You better savor it." "You should enjoy it too. If it turns out I'm innocent, I'll have Mr. Robin throw you out." "In your dreams!" Adrian snapped at me. After dinner, the test results finally came back. My fingerprints were found both on the diamond bracelet and in the room. Robin looked stunned. "So it really was you, Raelyn?" Regina sneered. "What else do you have to say now? Butler, pack up this thief's things and get her out." "Hold on." I stood up and spoke with composure. "I didn't steal anything."I had the confidence to say that because of my sharp memory and attention to detail. I remembered that there was a protective film over the doorknob yesterday, but it was gone today. Someone probably lifted my fingerprints then and transferred them to the bracelet. Regina scoffed. "Oh please. The evidence is right there—how are you going to explain it?" "I have proof," I said as I picked up the diamond bracelet and calmly fastened it around my wrist. "Raelyn, what are you doing?" Robin looked at me, confused. I didn't answer. I held out my hand. Under the light, my pale wrist turned red and swollen. A sharp sting and itchiness spread through my nerves. I quietly endured it, then smiled and said sweetly, "Madam Salvatore, this diamond really is top quality. With my skin condition, the better the diamond, the worse the allergic reaction." Robin jumped up, alarmed. "You silly girl, why would you touch it if you know you're allergic? Take it off, now!" By then, my wrist had already started peeling, and red rashes had broken out on the fingers that had touched the bracelet. After I took off the bracelet, I looked at Regina and gave a cold smile. "These symptoms don't go away for at least three days. So no, I didn't steal it." "Maybe you were wearing gloves when you took it," Regina accused. "If I was wearing gloves, how would my fingerprints end up on the bracelet?" I shot back. Regina fell silent.
