Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 60 On the Offensive

Aiden was at his hospital desk reviewing paperwork when I walked in. “The doctor said I’m almost fully recovered,” he said in his usual low tone. “I can be discharged this afternoon.” “That’s great,” I nodded, then gave him a serious look. “Aiden, what’s your take on the fire?” He set his files down and thought for a moment before replying, “Our company has top-notch safety protocols. Daily checks, detailed inspections. There’s no way that fire was accidental.” I arched a brow. “So your brain’s been working even while you’ve been laid up.” He glanced at me. “The floor that burned down was a fitness center. There was a members’ event going on that day. Whoever started the fire must’ve used the crowd as cover.” “Oh?” I murmured. “You think it was... Zane?” Aiden’s face darkened. “I had someone pull the surveillance footage from that floor. Zane shows up—barely—in some of the more shadowed corners.” He turned his laptop toward me and hit play. Sure enough, in the dim corners of the footage, there was Zane, lurking around like a rat. “So it was him,” I said with a cold smile. “Well then, it’s time he learned what happens when you play with fire.” That afternoon, after Aiden was discharged and returned to the company, I stayed behind. I climbed to the hospital rooftop and called Jackson. “You there?” “What’s up, Raelynn?” His voice came through loud and muffled—background noise and chatter. I raised a brow. “Hitting on girls at a bar again?” He laughed. “What can I say? You know me.” “Well, I’ve got a job for you,” I said, lowering my voice as the memory of Zane’s crimes burned through my chest. “I need you to deal with someone.” “Who?” “Zane. He set fire to Eclipse Corporation. You know what to do.” Jackson didn’t hesitate. “Got it. Don’t worry, Raelynn. I’ll make sure he pays.”After hanging up, I returned to the office. The moment I sat down at my desk, my coworker Logan came rushing over, waving his phone. “Raelynn, you’re on the news!” I blinked. “Me? What now?” He pointed to the headline: Mysterious Woman Saves Asthma Patient at Local Hospital—Refuses Reward. “They didn’t get a clear shot of your face, but I knew it was you right away!” The footage showed a slim woman with soft chestnut waves and killer curves. Who else could it be? I sighed. Of course someone caught that on camera. And now it was all over the internet. Commenters were already digging into my identity. “Isn’t that Raelynn? My goddess!” “Beautiful and kind? She’s basically perfect!” “I’m begging, please let me marry this woman!” “Bro, you’re drunk. Keep dreaming!” … I didn’t care much about the praise, but one detail in the photo caught my eye. In the background stood that elegant she-wolf, watching me. I couldn’t see her expression clearly, but I recognized something in the way she looked at me. Strange, considering we’d only met twice. “Raelynn? Hellooo?” Logan waved a hand in front of my face. “Huh? I’m fine,” I said, snapping back. He sighed. “Glad to hear it. Oh, by the way—there’s a catch. A news crew’s coming to interview you this afternoon.” I frowned. “So?” He leaned in, dropping his voice. “The host is a huge fan of Adam. You know… Adam. You two shot that couple-style video together, remember? She’s probably out for blood.”I smiled faintly. “Then I’ll have to see what she’s got.” Sure enough, at 3 PM, the crew showed up. The host—Sonny—wore a sharp, tailored suit that hugged her hourglass curves, turning heads the moment she entered. She strutted right over to my desk, hips swaying. “Hello. I’m Sonny, host from the local news channel.” Her eyes locked onto mine with laser precision. I nodded politely. “Raelynn. Pleasure.” “If you’re ready, let’s begin,” she said, glancing at the cameraman to roll. “Tell us—what made you step in to save a complete stranger that day?” “Boredom,” I replied smoothly. “I just happened to be there.” “And did the woman offer thanks or a reward afterward?” “Thanks, yes. Money? No thanks.” Sonny raised a brow. “So you weren’t hoping for any kind of return?” Logan was right. Third question in and she was already going for the throat.
