Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
Seeing how polite the director was, I held my tongue and simply nodded, then followed Aiden back to our room. The hospital moved us to another ward; but it didn’t take long before the temperature started to drop again. Within minutes, it felt like the dead of winter, and I was shivering uncontrollably. Aiden wrapped me tightly in the blanket before heading out to find the director again. When he returned, his answer was the same as before, the air conditioner had “broken down.” I frowned. “I could overlook it the first time, but now? This Malia is unbelievably petty; she won’t even spare a hospitalized patient.” Aiden’s gaze sharpened; then he stood. “Wait here. I need to make a call.” Without another word, he stepped out. I had no idea what he was up to. More than half an hour later, he came back—this time with three or four werewolf bodyguards carrying a massive rectangular unit. From the doorway, Aiden gave a crisp order. “Bring it in and get it installed.” My eyes widened. “What is that?” “A new air-conditioning unit,” he said matter-of-factly. “Since the hospital’s air conditioner doesn’t work, we’ll just replace it.” His tone was so commanding, I was momentarily at a loss for words. Word of it spread quickly; before long, the director came running in, flustered. “Mr. Aiden… I heard you’re replacing our air-conditioning system?” Aiden’s voice was cold. “We’ve switched rooms twice and neither air conditioner worked. I’d say your hospital’s efficiency is embarrassingly low. As for the staff member in charge of maintenance, fire her.” The director’s expression darkened. “Changing our internal systems without authorization… don’t you think that’s a bit unreasonable—” Aiden’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I was planning to donate a hundred million to this hospital. Should I reconsider?” The words had barely left his mouth before the director’s attitude did a sharp turn. “Of course not! You can change whatever you like, Mr. Aiden. Having you here is our greatest honor. So… when should we expect that generous donation?” “That,” Aiden said coolly, “depends on my mood.”The director, quick on the uptake, forced an obsequious smile. “How about this—I’ll have Malia come and apologize to you. And if she still refuses to cooperate, I’ll dismiss her on the spot!” Aiden glanced at me. “What do you think?” I arched a brow. “I just want working air-conditioning; I don’t need her apology.” Aiden turned back toward the director. The man nodded furiously. “Understood, Mr. Aiden. Don’t worry; I’ll handle it and give you an explanation.” The director scurried off, and soon after, the new unit was installed. The moment warm air flowed through the room, I finally felt like I could breathe again. “You’re really going to donate a hundred million to the hospital?” I asked, skeptical. I’d never believed for a second that a profit-driven businessman like Aiden would suddenly grow a charitable streak. “Of course not,” Aiden said with a smirk. “But if they actually get rid of Malia, then I might consider it.” “Why?” “Because anything that benefits you,” he said smoothly, “is worth doing.” The blunt, almost stoic delivery somehow made my heart flutter. “Get some rest,” he murmured, ruffling my hair before lifting me into bed. “You’ll probably be discharged tomorrow.” That night, I stopped by Mr. Harold’s room to say goodbye. When he heard I was leaving soon, the old Alpha suddenly burst into tears, wailing in a way that left me completely flustered. “I don’t have much to give you,” he sniffled. “Cash feels too tacky… so take this. It’s a symbol of my status; with this, you’ll have free rein in Veloria!” With that, he pulled a pendant from his neck—a family crest engraved with the Voltclaw Pack’s insignia—and pressed it into my palm. Warmth bloomed in my chest. Money was just numbers to me; but identity was priceless. “Remember to come back and visit this old man…” “Don’t worry,” I said with a sincere nod. “I’ll definitely come back to see you.”By the next afternoon, Aiden was handling the discharge paperwork while I finished packing. Just as I was ready to leave, Malia stormed into the room. “Raelyn, you little wench!” she snapped. “It wasn’t enough to steal my position; I finally earned a department head title, and now you’ve got the director ready to fire me. What the heck is your problem?” “Oh?” I tilted my head, a cool smile on my lips. “Isn’t this all the result of your own doing?” “You’re full of shit,” she spat. “I’ve never done anything to you!” “Oh, really? Then why don’t you explain the air-conditioning? Why was I left waiting the entire afternoon without a single maintenance worker showing up?” For a moment, Malia faltered; then her voice dropped to a mumble. “I forgot… I was busy…” “Well,” I said evenly, “since you’re so busy, we’ll just lighten your workload.” Aiden strode in from the hall.
