Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 291 Petty Tricks

Raelyn’s POV: When Malia walked into Mr. Harold’s room, I just happened to be there. The moment she saw me, her expression shifted; her eyes burned with hatred. I didn’t care much about her attitude, though I was curious. What was with that pitiful look on her face? “Mr. Harold, I came to apologize,” Malia said, lowering her gaze. “I know I’ve caused you a lot of trouble, but I still hope you can forgive me.” She looked so meek and pitiful, like a little lamb about to be slaughtered. Harold glanced at her and smiled faintly, his tone generous as he said, “It’s fine; I don’t want to make things hard for a young girl. If you’re done here, you can go now.” Malia quickly lowered her head in thanks, but as she turned to leave, she shot me a sharp glare before walking out. I looked at Mr. Harold, brows furrowed. “What did you do?” This wasn’t like Malia at all; she would never take the initiative to apologize unless Harold had pulled some strings. With a sly smile, Mr. Harold recounted how he’d sent a banner to the hospital earlier that morning—one that publicly shamed Malia. I couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Little pear,” Harold teased, “you think it’s funny too, don’t you?” I chuckled, shaking my head. “I didn’t expect you to still be so playful at your age; that was downright childish.” A faint blush crept over his weathered face. “No, no… it was just a small punishment. I wasn’t trying to truly make things hard for her.” “It’s fine, Alpha,” I said casually. “For someone like her, a little lesson might do her some good.” But apparently, Mr. Harold misunderstood me; he actually said, “I see… you’re saying I can bully her however I like, is that it?” I waved my hands quickly. “That’s not what I meant. But based on what I know about Malia, there’s a good chance she’ll pull some tricks—whether against you or me. Better to stay cautious; you can never be too careful.”Mr. Harold nodded, confidence in his voice. “Don’t worry. With her little games, she won’t get the better of me anytime soon.” “Good. Now hurry up and take your medicine.” Once he’d finished his dose, Harold lay down to rest. I returned to my own room. Aiden was packing when I walked in. Seeing his lean figure turned away from me, I couldn’t resist; I lunged forward, wrapped my arms around his waist from behind, and pressed my cheek against his back. “Aiden, did you miss me?” Completely unfazed, he replied, “You were only gone an hour. It’s not like you went on a long trip. Why would I miss you?” This man… such a block of ice. He had no idea how to talk to a girl. I gave up on teasing him and said more seriously, “Do you know Malia? This morning she ran over to apologize to Mr. Harold. At first, I was baffled, but then Harold told me he’d sent a banner to the hospital that said, ‘Malia the Quack, Harmer of Patients.’” Aiden let out a quiet laugh. “Seems Mr. Harold has a bit of a mischievous streak.” “But the look Malia gave me before leaving was… unsettling. I’ve got a bad feeling she’s planning something.” Aiden just smiled, unconcerned. That afternoon, I woke up shivering in my sleep. Being an Alpha, my body could withstand more than most; if the cold was enough to wake me, something had to be wrong with the room’s air conditioning. I scrambled out of bed and shook Aiden awake. “Aiden, I think the air conditioner is broken.” He opened his eyes, exhaled a frosty breath, and frowned. “It’s not broken. Someone deliberately shut it off.” “Who would bother turning off the air conditioner in our room?” I muttered, bewildered. I suspected Malia but had no proof, so I kept the thought to myself. Aiden ruffled my hair. “Stay here for a bit; I’ll talk to the director.” I grabbed his hand. “I’m coming with you.”When we reached the director’s office, the man recognized Aiden immediately and greeted him with polite enthusiasm. “Mr. Aiden, what brings you here today?” Aiden’s tone was cool. “I want to know, who’s responsible for the air conditioning in the patient rooms?” The director hesitated, then said, “That’s been Malia’s responsibility. Why? Did something happen with your room?” I nodded. “Yes. Our air conditioner was completely off.” The director forced a polite smile. “I’m sure it’s just an accident. Why don’t you go back and check again? Maybe it’s just undergoing maintenance—” He hadn’t even finished when Malia strode into the office. The moment she saw me, she deliberately ignored my presence, her posture dripping with arrogance. The director, sensing tension, quickly asked, “Malia, perfect timing. What’s going on with the air conditioning in Ms. Beck’s room?” Malia curled her lips into a faint smirk. “The fuse burned out around noon, so the system shut down automatically. I was just about to call someone to fix it.” The director turned to us with an appeasing smile. “You see? Just a misunderstanding. Why don’t I arrange for you to move to another room instead?”
