Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming

Chapter 18 Old Acquaintance

Over the next few days, under my manipulation, the Midnight Pack suddenly fell into a financial crisis. Some senior executives in Varken's company began dumping their shares. The Midnight Pack was powerless to stop it and ended up borrowing two billion from the Eclipse Pack to save their company. From what I heard, it was Regina, who had her heart set on Taylor becoming her daughter-in-law. She persuaded Aiden to step in, and only then did things calm down. Thanks to the Midnight Pack's trouble, Taylor didn't have time to come to the hospital and fake sympathy anymore, which meant I finally got some peace and quiet. That day, Andrix came as usual to check on me. After finishing his exam, he took off his stethoscope with a warm smile. "You're healing fast. You can be discharged today." "Got it," I replied indifferently. "Is my brother not coming to see you today?" Aiden had been busy dealing with the Midnight Pack's company rescue and hadn't shown up in days. I casually continued eating my breakfast and answered in a flat tone, "Whether he comes or not is his business. You're asking the wrong person." Andrix hadn't expected me to sound so cold. He chuckled softly and didn't press the matter. Instead, he asked, "The Alpha told you to get to know the five of us better. Which one do you like the most?" I raised an eyebrow and smiled. "Who do you want me to say?" Andrix smiled gently. "In that case, I won't ask anymore. After all, I'm not interested in you." With that, Andrix turned and left. Aiden didn't show up in the afternoon either, so I checked myself out of the hospital and took a cab back to the Eclipse Pack's villa. Seeing that I was mostly recovered but lounging around at home with nothing to do, Robin suggested I start working at Eclipse Corporation. The five brothers had mixed reactions to the idea. Adrian reacted the strongest. He threw a scornful glance at me as I calmly sipped my tea on the sofa. "She's just a low-ranking Omega from a small town. How could she possibly manage anything in a company? Dad, you're giving her too much credit!" "Oh really? And you can?" I found his tantrum amusing. "Anyone is better than you!" Robin's face darkened. He looked at Adrian with clear disapproval. "Even if Rae is from a small town, you shouldn't belittle her background. You can skip dinner tonight. Go to your room and think about what you said!"Adam, probably still grateful from the time I gave him a microphone, actually spoke up for me. "I think it's a good idea to let her try. Staying home all day really is boring." Aiden paused and finally said, "Let Raelyn start off as an intern. If it doesn't work out, we'll find her something else to do." "Bro!" Adrian protested angrily. But his protest was useless. Eclipse Corporation had been founded by Aiden. I looked at Adrian's handsome but furious face and said with a faint smile, "You don't seem too happy about me joining Eclipse Corporation." "You Omegas must be feeding Alphas some kind of love potion. All you bring is trouble. Who knows what kind of mess you'll cause once you're in the company." "Don't be so quick to write others off," I replied, too lazy to bicker with a brat like him. Aiden had already made the decision, and no matter how much Adrian disliked it, there was nothing he could do about the successor's word. The next morning, Aiden knocked on my door and took me to the company. He assigned me to the design department as an ordinary employee. I didn't mind the role. After greeting the colleagues around me with a smile and just settling into my seat, a thick stack of documents slammed onto my desk. "Here's your workload. Finish it and send it to my inbox by noon. Don't think you can slack off just because someone upstairs is looking out for you… Raelyn?" The voice of the female werewolf who dumped the files on my desk suddenly stopped. I looked up at her familiar face and nodded slightly. "Long time no see, Kendall." Kendall Quinn and I had gone to elementary school together back in Varken. She had been the school principal's daughter and loved bullying weaker kids. She always looked down on me, the girl without a mom. I'd gotten into a fight with her once, and after getting expelled, she went abroad to study, completed dual degrees, and only recently returned. I didn't expect to cross paths with her here at Eclipse Corporation. What a small, twisted world. Kendall stared at me, her expression shifting from shock to contempt. She sneered. "Let's get one thing straight. I'm your superior now. Don't try to get chummy with me. If you slack off, I have plenty of ways to make sure you're out." So much for old classmates. I smiled calmly. "Then you'd better hold onto that position tightly." The moment I said that, Kendall's anger erupted. "You think you're some kind of big deal? You're still just an Omega! And now you think you can talk down to a high-ranking Beta like me? No wonder you dropped out and disappeared. Who knows what kind of shady things you've been doing. Let me guess. You've been some old wolf's sugar baby, right? That must be how you landed a job here. Pathetic." "Sugar baby?" I found that amusing. Kendall scoffed and kept attacking. "Word is you're real close with Thomas the security guard. Don't tell me… he pulled strings for you? You're disgusting. You'll take any wolf you can get, huh? Raelyn, after all these years, you've really hit rock bottom."
