Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
After being cooped up in the hospital for days, I was dying to get out and breathe a little fresh air. So after agreeing to Adam’s invitation, I got dressed and left the hospital with him. To avoid drawing attention, he wore a pair of huge sunglasses that covered half his face. I wasn’t exactly unknown either, so I also had on a pair of sunglasses and a mask. Breathing fresh air again after a whole week felt incredible. My mood instantly lifted. Adam first took me to the beach. We sat at a small seaside food stand, eating seafood and drinking beer, totally relaxed. I was a little surprised. "I didn’t expect you to be into this kind of thing." Adam narrowed his flirtatious, fox-like eyes. "Why? Just because I’m a celebrity, I can’t eat street food?" "That’s not what I meant. I was just worried your fans might find you and swarm the place. Imagine this poor little stand getting mobbed." The thought made me laugh out loud. Adam chuckled too, giving me a playful look. "I usually come here alone. But this time, I’m glad you’re with me." I raised an eyebrow. "What, the great celebrity can’t find anyone to eat seafood with him?" "Would you come with me next time?" Adam suddenly asked, serious this time. I took a sip of my beer and didn’t answer. Even if I were looking for my fated mate, it wouldn’t be someone like Adam—a celebrity. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted two werewolves standing across the street. They looked... familiar. A female wolf stood in front of a male wolf, her head down, shoulders shaking. The next second, she threw herself into his arms. She hugged him tightly, and the man didn’t push her away until several seconds later. My brows furrowed. As an Alpha, my eyesight was sharper than most—I recognized them immediately.Aiden and Yvonne. My heart sank like a stone to the bottom of a lake. So it was true. Yvonne really had become someone special to him? The way they were standing, so close together... Was this Aiden’s idea of being with someone? His so-called "feelings" sure were cheap. Thoughts raced through my mind, but all that bitterness ended up going down with my beer. Adam followed my gaze and spotted the two people across the street too. "Who's that with him?" "Someone from work," I said blandly, turning my eyes away from the scene. Adam smirked. "Doesn’t look like just some coworker to me." "Whatever." I suddenly lost all appetite. Adam, seemingly pleased with the development, tried to cheer me up. "Hey, want to go check out the lantern show later? They say if you write your wish on a lantern and release it, it’ll come true. It’s supposed to be super magical—" "I want to go home," I interrupted quietly, standing up. Adam blinked. "But we haven’t even seen the lanterns yet." "Forget it. I’m tired. I need to rest." My mood had completely crashed. I didn’t feel like doing anything anymore. Adam couldn’t hold back anymore and finally asked, "Raelyn... are you in love with my brother?" I denied it immediately. "No." "Really? If you’re not in love with him, why do you care so much about what he does? You just don’t want to admit it." Every word Adam said hit its mark. I couldn’t argue. Maybe... I had fallen for him. But so what? Aiden didn’t love me.His feelings for me were just a passing phase. Give it time, and he’d go back to who he was—falling for someone else without hesitation. I looked away and said coldly, "Whatever the case, don’t ever ask me that again." Adam looked like he wanted to say more, but I didn’t give him the chance. I turned and walked away without looking back. That was how Day Four ended—on a sour, pathetic note. The last of the five brothers to visit me was Adrian. He’d always had a short fuse, but ever since I’d put him in his place, his attitude had changed dramatically. As soon as he stepped into the hospital room, he offered, "Raelyn, want me to peel an apple for you?" I shook my head. "That’s not necessary. Really, I don’t need anyone to take care of me. If you’ve got stuff to do at school, you should go. Don’t worry about me." Adrian looked righteous. "I promised I’d take care of you. I’m not leaving until I’ve done the full shift." I sighed, about to try and talk him into going, but then someone knocked on the door. I looked up—and saw Yvonne standing there in a white dress, looking sweet and innocent. Her smile was a little too cheerful. "Raelyn, I came to visit." I nodded. "Well, you’ve seen me now. You can go." Blunt as it was, Yvonne didn’t take the hint. Instead, she stepped further into the room. Lifting her chin, she said with a hint of pride, "Actually, I came to tell you something." I gave her a cool smile. "What, did you get promoted?" Yvonne beamed. "You’re so smart, Raelyn. Mr. Aiden just appointed me the new director of the design department. I’m really grateful for everything you’ve taught me. I came to thank you personally." I’d seen this coming for a while. But hearing it confirmed still made something in my chest sting.
