Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
I raised a hand to stop him. “Alright, that’s enough. No need for that. I know you’re capable—I just want you to remember the choice you made today. Don’t go down a twisted path. Don’t do something you’ll regret for the rest of your life just because of a moment’s anger.” Simon had completely given in. He stood up and said sincerely, “I understand, Ms. Raelyn.” “And once you’re at Light Corp, work hard. If you’re good enough, there’ll be plenty of chances to move up.” Simon’s eyes welled up again. “Ms. Raelyn, you’re my savior.” I walked over and helped him up. “Alright, enough of that. Get up. If everything’s settled, go home. Tomorrow I’ll have someone send over your contract. Just show up at Light Corp and report in.” Simon nodded, then glanced at my phone with a bit of concern. “But Ms. Raelyn… your phone…” I laughed. “Relax. That part was a bluff.” “You just told him you never lie,” Tammy muttered. I flicked her on the forehead. “Alright, zip it.” Then I pulled a business card from my pocket. “We’re leaving now. Send me your address tomorrow, and wait for your onboarding notice.” Simon nodded and carefully put away the card. I brought Tammy back upstairs to street level. “What were you thinking? You’re not a kid. Running off like that is bad enough, and then you go get yourself kidnapped.” I couldn’t help scolding her. Tammy scratched her head sheepishly. “Come on, Raelyn, I was just in a bad mood.” She pouted. “It’s Adrian’s fault. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have been so upset. I wouldn’t have stormed off and run into my enemy’s old agent. And you—don’t act like you’re innocent. If you didn’t have feelings for him, you wouldn’t be this mad. And now you’re yelling at me?” She sighed and changed the subject. “I remember you came after me right away. What took you so long?” “Because… I got tripped by a dog on the way.” I gritted my teeth as I said it.Yeah. That mutt named Aiden. “Dog?” Tammy blinked, confused. “Never mind. Go back. Your brother’s waiting.” “What about you, Raelyn?” I took a deep breath. “I’m going to take a walk by myself.” After saying goodbye to Tammy, I walked alone to the riverside. The night lights shimmered across the water, and couples strolled hand in hand, whispering to each other. Suddenly, I heard an argument not far away. “This is your fault! If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have lost the lantern riddle contest!” The guy’s voice was full of frustration. “Well maybe if you’d just trusted me, you wouldn’t have lost!” The girl wasn’t backing down. “Trusted you? On what basis? You know your brain. I know it better. You don’t know the first thing about this kind of stuff.” “Fine. You know me so well. But do you know how hard I worked on those riddles? You don’t see that I’ve changed. You still think I’m the same old idiot!” The girl turned sharply and nearly slipped into the river, but the guy grabbed her just in time. “Don’t touch me! Just let me fall and get it over with!” He pulled her into his arms and softened his voice. “So we fought. Big deal. It’s not like I stopped loving you.” The girl lowered her head. “I’m sorry… I did get a little mean just now.” I stood off in the distance, watching them, but that one line pierced straight into my heart. “So we fought. Big deal. It’s not like I stopped loving you.” Yeah. Just a fight. Why cut each other off completely? Once the misunderstanding’s cleared, things can go back to normal. Hurtful words don’t help anyone. Aiden grew up with Taylor. To him, she’s like Madam Regina’s second daughter. How could he believe a daughter would hurt her own mother? And me—I’ve been at odds with Madam Regina since the moment I arrived at Midnight Pack. And when Aiden questioned me, he didn’t scream or get violent. He kept trying to reason with me. But I? I kept lashing out at him. Him suspecting me—that’s just human. But he’s been doing his best to talk it through. Doesn’t that mean… he actually cares? When that thought clicked into place, the haze in my mind finally cleared. “Alpha, that’s more like it. You’re finally thinking straight again,” Freya said happily inside me. “Oh, now you agree with me? Then why were you yelling at him earlier?” I teased her. “I’m your wolf. Your emotions are mine. Of course I’m going to back you up first.” “Thanks, Freya.”
