Alpha Raelyn: The Alpha They Never Saw Coming
I was a little surprised. “So he didn’t recognize you?” “Nope,” Tammy said, sounding a little down. “He had no idea who I was. That’s why he thought I was some kind of creep when I grabbed his arm last time and told me to stay far away from him.” “Your brother knows people from Midnight Pack. Don’t you know Adrian too?” Tammy rolled her eyes. “Ugh, my brother only hangs around with those guys to party and mess around. I’m not like him—I never got involved in any of that. This is actually my first time at a bar, and I have to say, it’s kinda fun.” She looked around, then leaned closer and whispered, “Raelyn, I want a drink. Just don’t tell my brother, okay?” “No alcohol for minors.” I shut her down instantly. Tammy slumped in her seat in defeat. “Fine…” Suddenly, she shot upright. “Look, Raelyn, who’s that girl?” I followed her gaze and saw a girl sitting next to Adrian. She looked timid and proper, even wearing barely any makeup. “She looks like a student. Adrian’s into that type?” Tammy looked absolutely livid. Her expression changed on the spot. “A student…” I stared at the shy girl, and a pang of pain twisted in my chest. I thought of Ruby—the girl whose entire family was wiped out because I tried to help her. This time, I didn’t dare go near. “Raelyn, is she prettier than me? Cuter? Does she have a better figure?” I glanced at that plain-looking girl again, then at Tammy—whose beauty couldn’t be hidden even under heavy makeup—and smiled. “Of course our superstar is the prettiest. Not just anyone can be a celebrity, let alone earn the title of human Barbie.” “Hmph, obviously. Adrian has no taste.” I tried to calm her down. “Don’t overthink it. It’s probably just a drinking companion. Adrian would never be into her.” “I’m not overthinking. Look! He just blocked a drink for her. He’s never been that gentle before!”Tammy stood up, unable to contain herself, and stormed off toward him. I didn’t follow. I didn’t want to face anyone from Midnight Pack right now. But just as Tammy reached Adrian, she stopped. The fiery, aggressive Tammy I knew instantly turned meek and hesitant in front of him. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. Looks like everyone has their kryptonite. “What do you want?” Adrian asked, visibly annoyed. “Are you worried about me?” Tammy blinked, suddenly perking up a little. Adrian paused for a second, then immediately denied it. “Of course not.” Tammy turned to the girl beside him. “Then why are you with her?” “Who?” Adrian didn’t get who she meant. His tone stayed cold. “That girl next to you. Why are you with her? What’s so good about her?” Adrian glanced over his shoulder at the girl and looked even more annoyed. “What’s it got to do with you?” “Fine, it has nothing to do with me. Go ahead and enjoy your sweet little moment. I won’t bother you anymore.” Tammy said that, then covered her face and ran off in tears. I watched her go, frowning. I was just about to follow her when someone grabbed my wrist. “Raelyn.” I turned around and saw Aiden standing there, face expressionless. “What are you doing here?” I asked, and all the bitterness I’d bottled up instantly surged to the surface. I scoffed. “Oh, right. It’s Jensen’s birthday. Makes sense you’d be here partying with your usual crew.” Aiden didn’t react to my sarcasm. He just stared at me. “What do you want?” I said, waving him off. “If it’s nothing important, step aside. I have things to do.” Aiden hesitated, then said in a low voice, “Since we ran into each other, I want to talk.”“No time.” I shut him down immediately. “Five minutes.” “No.” “Three minutes. One minute even.” He was gripping my wrist tightly. Seeing how persistent he was, I gave in and nodded. Fine. One minute. Let’s see what you have to say. I found a seat and sat down. Looking directly at Aiden, I got straight to the point. “Is this about your mom?” “I want to know how my mom really fell down the stairs.” I let out a cold laugh. “Didn’t you already decide it was me?” Aiden paused. “I didn’t.” “Then if I say it was Taylor, would you believe me?” His whole vibe shifted. His expression turned cold. “No.” My heart instantly went cold. Just as I expected. “In that case, there’s nothing more to say. Your minute’s up. I’ve got somewhere to be.” I stood up, ready to leave, but Aiden stopped me again. “I’m not saying I don’t believe you. It’s just… Taylor would never hurt my mom.”
