From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 365 Beverly's Hidden Agenda

"We're all adults here, so there's no need to beat around the bush. Let's just get straight to the point." When Beverly heard Athena's words, she felt unhappy. She scoffed and said, "Can't I just invite you to dinner without having an ulterior motive? Am I really such an unapproachable person in your eyes?" Harriet almost choked on her own breath when she heard this. Beverly wasn't just unapproachable—she was downright difficult to deal with. That's why she was terrified of Beverly, and Teri was afraid of her grandmother too. Athena didn't say anything, simply looking at Beverly. The meaning in her eyes was crystal clear—she didn't want to play games anymore. Whatever they needed to discuss, they should just lay it all out on the table. Beverly had originally planned to take things slow, ease into the conversation gradually, but Athena's gaze made it impossible for her to continue with that approach. She had no choice but to say, "Fine. The truth is, I did ask you here because I need something." Athena listened carefully. Beverly continued, "I heard that Teri was injured. How is she doing?" Harriet's jaw nearly dropped when she heard Beverly's words. Had she heard that right? Beverly was asking about Teri's condition? Everything about today felt strange and impossible to understand. Either that, or Zaden's mother had been body-snatched, which would explain why she suddenly invited Athena to dinner and was now asking about Teri. Athena frowned, unsure whether she should tell Beverly about Teri's situation. After all, considering what she had done to Teri before ... Just as Athena hesitated, Beverly let out a long sigh. She told Athena, "I know you both have a grudge against me. I admit that what happened with Teri before was my fault. I just wanted Zaden to have a better life, but I never expected I would end up hurting Teri." Beverly's words sounded very sincere, not like she was just going through the motions of apologizing. Athena and Harriet quietly exchanged a glance, clearly both thinking the same thing. Beverly continued, "Because of what happened, Zaden completely misunderstands me now. He hasn't come home to see me in a very long time." Hearing this, Harriet finally understood Beverly's purpose for today! She asked in confusion, "Are you asking Athena to be the middleman so you and Zaden can make up?" Beverly pressed her lips together and didn't respond. Athena also had a moment of realization. So this was why Beverly had invited her to dinner today. She had been wondering what had suddenly gotten into Beverly. Athena looked up at Beverly and said, "Beverly, I'm afraid I can't make that decision. If you want to resolve your misunderstanding with Zaden and make things right, I can relay your message to him, but I can't make any decisions on his behalf. Whether or not he forgives you is his choice to make." When Beverly heard Athena's words, her mood instantly soured. Any other girl, upon hearing Beverly's request, would have eagerly promised to do everything in her power to help. But Athena only said she would relay the message. If all she needed was someone to relay a message, couldn't she just ask one of her maids to do that? Why would she go to all this trouble to seek out someone she didn't like and didn't want to see! This was exactly why Beverly couldn't stand Athena. She didn't play by the rules. Sometimes she went against her wishes, making her feel like everything was spiraling out of control. That was something she absolutely couldn't stand. Beverly's relationship with Zaden was strained, and she had been alone for a long time. Her personality was domineering, and she needed to have everything under her control to feel secure. What she hated most was losing control. Athena continued, "The misunderstanding between you and Zaden stems from what happened with Teri. I think you shouldn't be approaching this through me. Instead, you should get Teri to forgive you, and then Zaden will forgive you." In the end, Athena couldn't help but point Beverly in the right direction. The crux of the problem wasn't with her, but with Teri. After Athena finished speaking, she stood up and said to Beverly, "Thanks for the meal. I'll be heading back now. Goodbye." After turning to leave, Athena seemed to remember something. She said to Beverly, "Oh, and remember to come to the hospital tomorrow for your medical checkup. I've already reviewed your medical records. The surgery's not that complicated, but if you skip it, you'll keep having off-and-on chest pain." After saying this, Athena pulled Harriet along as they left together. Just as she reached the entrance, she saw a familiar car. Zaden had arrived! The car window rolled down halfway, revealing Zaden's handsome, refined face. He said to Athena, "Get in." Harriet hadn't expected Zaden to come pick up Athena. She rushed over and said, "Zaden, what are you doing here? Athena and I were just about to leave."
