From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 364 Dinner at the Storms

Harriet asked again, sounding uneasy. "Are you sure we're really going to Mrs. Storm's place for dinner? You didn't mishear anything, right? Or maybe you misunderstood her?" Considering how much Beverly disliked Athena, Harriet couldn't believe she'd actually invited her. It had to be a misunderstanding. Athena just gave a helpless smile. "I didn't get it wrong. Let's go." With no other choice, Harriet stepped on the gas and drove off. Half an hour later, they arrived at Beverly's villa. As they walked up to the entrance, Harriet felt nervous, half-expecting to get turned away. But to her surprise, the guards didn't stop them. Everything went smoothly. "I can't believe we didn't get stopped," Harriet muttered under her breath. Athena couldn't help laughing. Harriet was being way too dramatic. Once they parked, the two got out of the car. Daisy was already waiting at the front door. When Daisy saw that Athena had brought Harriet along, she gave an awkward smile and said, "Ms. Hall, Mrs. Storm really doesn't mean any harm. She just wants to have dinner with you." Athena didn't look the least bit awkward. "Harriet happened to be with me. When she heard I was coming for dinner, she decided to tag along. Is that okay?" "Yeah!" Harriet added quickly. "What, am I not welcome here?" She looped her arm through Athena's and pretended to turn back. "Alright then, we'll just leave." Daisy panicked. "Ms. Crawford, wait! That's not what I meant. You're basically part of the Storm family. Of course Mrs. Storm welcomes you." That seemed to satisfy Harriet, who nodded in agreement."Please come in," Daisy said. "Beverly has been waiting for you both." Athena and Harriet followed her into the house. Beverly was already seated at the dining table, surrounded by neatly covered dishes that had clearly been prepared well before they arrived. When she saw Harriet, she gave a small smile. "I thought you were braver than this. Guess you're just as timid as the rest," Beverly said. Harriet realized she was talking about Athena and immediately shot back, "That's not fair. Athena just wanted some company, that's all. How does that make her timid?" Athena gently tugged on Harriet's sleeve. Harriet shut her mouth at once, realizing this wasn't the time to argue. She decided to behave and just sit quietly. Once they were seated, Beverly said, "You're late. The food's gone cold." Harriet rolled her eyes silently. It was obvious Beverly was blaming them for the cold food. Still, she kept her thoughts to herself. Beverly waved to Daisy. "Take these dishes back to the kitchen and heat them up." Daisy hurried to carry the dishes out. Soon, the food was brought back steaming hot. Beverly told them to eat. Athena and Harriet picked up their utensils and started eating, though the air felt heavy. Both were tense, and neither dared to joke or start a conversation. Even lively Harriet went unusually quiet. When dinner finally ended, Harriet leaned over and whispered, "Okay, we're done eating. Let's go before I suffocate. The atmosphere in here is way too tense."Athena smiled helplessly. Poor Harriet really was suffering through this. She didn't want to stay much longer either. Standing up, she said, "Mrs. Storm, Teri is probably missing me, so I'll be heading home now." Beverly frowned. "No rush. Sit down and have a drink." Without waiting for a reply, she told Daisy to prepare it. She didn't even bother asking if they wanted any. Athena thought about it for a moment. Since she was already here, she might as well find out what Beverly's real intention was. No point leaving without answers. With that thought, Athena felt herself relax a little. She turned to Harriet and said, "In that case, let's sit for a while longer." Harriet nearly lost her mind. Wasn't Teri missing Athena? Shouldn't they be heading back to check on her right now? But since Athena had already taken a seat, all Harriet could do was sit down beside her. Daisy quickly prepared drinks and poured a cup for each of them. Athena took a few sips before setting hers down and looking straight at Beverly. "Mrs. Storm," she asked calmly, "may I know the real reason you invited me to dinner today?"
