From Betrayal to Brilliance: She Rose Stronger Than Ever

Chapter 358 Late-Night Melody

Lately, Zaden had made it perfectly clear he had no intention of getting back together with Maya. She was the only one still stuck in that fantasy, always thinking he'd turn around and choose her again. Athena started to realize she needed to shift her mindset. Maybe whatever happened between Zaden and Maya was long over. Maybe it was time for her to open her heart and give Zaden a real chance. She already had Teri's DNA sample, but she still needed Maya's. Once she got it, she'd send both off for testing. When the truth finally came out, she would sit down with Zaden and talk things through properly. This time, she wasn't going to run away at the first sign of trouble. Zaden had opened up to Athena because he wanted her to trust him the same way—to tell him everything in her heart without holding back. He could sense she was hiding something, something that made her unsure about their relationship. Whether it was about Maya or something else, he wanted to hear it. That was why he'd been so honest earlier, though it hadn't gone quite as he hoped. Athena, however, kept silent. The only comforting thing was that she looked more at ease now. She didn't seem so bothered by Maya anymore. The two of them sat quietly together. There was no awkward tension, just a calm stillness. From next door, the faint sound of a piano drifted in again. Athena came back to herself and glanced that way. She turned to Zaden and said, "Maya's clearly playing that piano for you. Want to go check it out?" Zaden gave a low chuckle. "No point paying attention to someone who doesn't matter."He walked over and pulled the curtains shut, blocking the view completely. Athena's lips lifted in a small smile. Maybe Maya's little plan was about to fail. Meanwhile, Maya was still at her piano, completely lost in the music. Out of the corner of her eye, she kept sneaking glances toward Zaden's villa. She had noticed the curtain move earlier, but to keep up appearances, she pretended not to care. After a while with no reaction from him, she couldn't help but peek again, only to see the curtains closed. Maya frowned, irritated. There was no way Zaden could hear this song and feel nothing. It was part of their past. Maybe Zaden had already reacted the moment he heard it. He was just pretending to stay calm, acting distant and unaffected. If that was the case... Maya's lips curved into a confident smile. She would just wait and see how long Zaden could keep up the act. The piano played on from dusk until deep into the night. Later that evening, Athena bathed Teri and carefully changed her bandages. Teri lay on the bed while Athena crouched beside her, a small medicine box by her side. Athena focused on disinfecting the wound with a cotton swab. Seeing the cut on Teri's forehead made her heart ache. "Teri, does it hurt?" "Mom, it doesn't hurt anymore," Teri said sweetly, her eyes wide and honest.Athena smiled softly. Teri was always such a good kid, and that made her even more protective. Suddenly, Teri frowned hard. Athena froze, afraid she'd pressed too hard. "Teri, what's wrong? Did I hurt you?" "No," Teri pouted, clearly annoyed. "The piano lady next door is so loud! My head's gonna explode." Athena blinked. She paused and listened carefully. Sure enough, the music from next door was still going strong. Maya had really been playing this whole time? Athena had to admit, the woman had serious determination—but it was getting late. Did she plan to play all night? The rest of them needed sleep, especially Teri, who was still recovering. Athena stood up and said, "Stay here, I'm going to find your dad." Teri nodded obediently. Athena left the room, walked to the study, and knocked softly. "Come in," Zaden called. She pushed the door open. Zaden sat at his desk, typing away on his laptop, fully absorbed in his work. Leaning against the doorframe, Athena said, "Teri says Maya's too loud. She's been playing for hours. You should probably go check on her—otherwise her hands might give out."
