The Rise of the Rejected Luna
Adira's hands trembled with anxiety as she clasped the test strip in her quivering grasp. Alone in the bathroom, her heart pounded in net chest, its rhythm echoing through the silence. She never thought she'd be so nervous with a pregnancy test. The first time she had been pregnant - Lancelot - carrying out the test was the happiest thing for her. And when it came out positive, she could never forget just how limitless her joy had been. But this - this right here was different. She inhaled a lungful of air and finally inserted it inside of her. Her anxiety increased, her legs had gotten cold. She watched with wavering breath, not knowing when to expect. Not until the big positive signed popped up on it. "Oh, my God..." She grazed her fingers over her mouth to stifle her gasp. Her heart summersaulted in her chest, the entire place rotated in her head. She lost balance and helped herself to sit on the toilet surface before she'd reach for the floor. Shaky breaths left her chest, and her hand could not let go of her lips. It was positive. She was pregnant. The realization of it sent her reeling, she could literally feel her world coming to an abrupt end. She dropped the strip on The floor and sent both fingers into her hair. Small whimpers left her as tears streaked her cheeks. She couldn't keep it in anymore. For the first time, she was so scared about being pregnant. What does she do? Her marriage with Nikolai had barely two weeks to go. And although, their relationship had improved over the month, it didn't change the fact that he might still want the divorce. Na-ri was there; Na-ri is his fiancee. No matter the feelings they have for each other, this whole thing started off as an arranged marriage. And of course, Adira would want nothing more than to spend forever with Nikolai, but she needed to be sure he wanted the same thing as well. Was he still thinking about the divorce? She never wants this baby to be the reason he cancels the divorce. She never wants him to feel pressurized. If he's cancelling the divorce, it should be on his own accord and becuase he loves her, not because of the baby. Yet, that was where her worst fear comes in. What if he decides to go through with the divorce? Would she have to go on with the child by herself? Will her baby grow up without a father? The thought of it alone was fearful. She spent a long time in the bathroom, thinking and crying herself enough to cause an ache. And when she's had enough, she picked up the strip, hid it carefully in her dress and exited the bathroom after washing her face thoroughly, of course. Nikolai was in the bedroom and on his system, seemingly busy. It was weekend, so neither of them was going to the company. Although, they had plans for later. "You took quite long in there." He remarked, his eyes and fingers glued to his system. Adira sniffed."I... I know." Nikolai paused and looked at her, noticing the difference in her voice. She had a concealing smile on her face, making it difficult for him to see her through emotions. "Are you okay?" He asked, anyway, noticing she wasn't looking exactly the same. "Of course. Why wouldn't I be?" She chuckled and went closer to him. Staring at his face, she imagined how beautiful it would be to have a family with him. If only it could be possible. She'll badly want that. Getting to where he sat on his working table, she wrapped her hands around him and hugged him from behind. ****†****†****† They spent quality time together that morning, and by midday, they decided to go out for a brief moment. They had some Arab clients who was to leave the next morning. So, holding the meeting with him on that weekend was imminent. But Adira and Nikolai decided to go earlier so they could shop some clothes. Nikolai was done and waiting in the sitting room, while Adira finished up in the bedroom. He was seated on one of the couch and operating his phone when Na-ri walked in. He didn't notice her at first until she advanced to sit next to him. Seeing her, he inched away. "Seriously?" She scoffed. "You're avoiding me now?" Nikolai sighed tiredly and stood up. The last thing he needed at that moment were her rants. However, Na-ri stood up as well and hugged him before he'd leave. "Please, Nikolai." Her voice wavered. "Can your stop doing this to me? Stop... pushing me away. I've done absolutely nothing to deserve this." "What is wrong with you?" He pulled away from the hug. "You've always known your place in my life, so stop trying to make me feel like the villain.""And where exactly is my place in your life? For all I know, I was your fiancee until that lady showed up in our lives. I'm still your fiancee tho, because if I'm not mistaken, you have less than two weeks to go." "Then, let that be my problem." He whispered in a raspy voice. "Divorcing Adira is my choice, not yours, Na-ri. And for all I know, I have the fucking right to change my mind." Tears welled up in Na-ri's eyes, but she laughed and they were gone. "You have so much trust in Adira, don't you?" Her words dripped with laughter. "You seriously think she's the saint here? Oh, you have no idea, Nik." Nikolai's brows furrowed. Curiousity and resentment flashed across his face. "What're you talking about?" His voice was deep and rugged But Na-ri smiled in response, and just then, Adira's footsteps were heard, descending the stairs. The duo turned in her direction and found her radiantly beautiful. She was so pretty, it irked Na-ri. Nikolai looked back at her and whispered in her ears. "Don't ever try to fabricate lies against her. I won't forgive you for that." He stepped away and advanced towards Adira instead, ignoring the scrowl that showed up on Na-ri's face. Adira knew something was wrong, but she decided not to bother herself with the details. Nikolai took her hand and together, they exited the room. Na-ri worked up a smile into her face. They looked like the perfect couple, don't they? Well, they should have all the fun they want, because today's going to be their last. **** Adira forced herself not to think of her present situation. She was filled with fear, excitement and nervousness all at the same time. Despite her uncomfortable situation, she wouldn't deny feeling happy that she was carrying a baby inside of her. She's finally had another chance of becoming a mother, and this time around, she was going to make sure she doesn't lose it like she did the first time. She and Nikolai arrived at the mall not long after and proceeded into the shopping sector. The mall was the biggest in the city, and it was owned by Yonder Dynamics. It had so many floors and sections for different purposes. As expected, Adira and Nikolai stole the attention of people as they walked into the galleria where variety of clothes were on display. A lot of peopled smiled at them, so many admiring them. Ophelia's news had not been enough to take away the admiration people had for Nikolai. And that was one thing Adira was thankful about. As for Ophelia and Jagger, they had men working underground to know what really happened between them. Nikolai was never backing out on getting his revenge from her. They were having a peaceful time at the galleria when a call entered Adira's phone. She took out the phone from her bag and discovered it was a strange number calling. She didn't want to answer at first, since she was having some good time with Nikolai. But realizing it might be business and important, she decided to answer it briefly. "Yes?" She placed the phone over her ear. "Hello, Adira." It was a man's voice. Instantly, she could tell that person was not calling for business. "You look ravishing today." She furrowed her brows. "Sorry?" "I'm talking about your outfit. It looks good on you. Staring at you right now, I feel like coming over to pull you into a hug."
