The Rise of the Rejected Luna
Adira and Vesper's eyes darted to the door to find Yvonne, holding some bags and looking fazed. She flinched at the sight before her and quickly ran in. "My goodness! What's going on here?! Sir Vesper!" She recoiled in horror, dropping the bags carelessly on the floor. Though, Adira wy still in tears, she felt so relieved that somebody was finally there to save her. Her short was almost ripped apart, and if Yvonne hadn't stepped in, it'd have probably gotten worst. Vesper groaned as he got off Adira. "You bitch!" He grabbed Yvonne's neck. "How dare you come in at such a wrong moment, huh?! How fucking dare you?!" Yvonne grabbed his hands as she gasped for air. And shortly, he let her go. He returned to his bottle of wine and gulped down a large quantity. "You ruined a good moment, you know that?" He grumped to Yvonne. Adira was still on the couch, dabbing her tears and supporting her torn shirt with her hands. Yvonne couldn't move and just stood in-between. Then, Vesper went closer to her. "If anyone hears of this, even as a low as a mice, I'll peel off your skin. You hear me?" He whispered into her ears, making her nod slowly "Good." Then, he turned back to Adira. "Today's your lucky day, huh? I hope you don't take this to heart, tho. We were just having...fun" He chuckled and started towards the door. Then, just like he had forgotten something, he paused and turned to Adira. "Oh! And there's no point telling my brother I was here. I didn't get to meet him, anyway," he added with a sly smile and left. As soon as the door went shut, Yvonne ran over to Adira. "Oh, my God! Ma'am! Are...Are you okay? Were you hurt?" She ran her eyes around Adira's body, but Adira was too frozen to speak. "I'm so sorry," she added. "So sorry I left. You should've called out to the securities. Maybe, they'd have heard you." The house was soundproof. So, it'd have been a little difficult getting to the securities. "I need to go upstairs," Adira finally muttered. Yvonne followed her to the room where she got changed into a new pajamas. The whole time, she kept feeling so guilty. "Why would Sir Vesper go this extent, huh?" She grumbled. "I know he has always been a jerk, but trying to take advantage of his brother's wife? I never expected such from him?" Adira was in front of the mirror, checking out the imprint he left on her face. She hoped it'd have cleared up by morning so she could go to the office."Nikolai must not know about this," she stated calmly, her eyes on the mirror. Yvonne was jumbled as she looked at her. "What?" She scoffed. "B... But, ma'am, why? Why shouldn't he be aware of it? I was hoping you'd be eager to tell him all about it when he gets home?" Adira shook her head. "He cannot know, Yvonne. Please." She didn't know what Nikolai's reaction would be, hearing of it. Based on their agreement, she doubt if he had any concern for her and felt he would do nothing if he hears the report. She didn't want to get hurt by knowing he'd do nothing. Secondly, if he agreed to do something, she didn't want to be the reason he has a fight with his brother. Her stay in the family was only temporary, and she didn't want to create some clash before leaving. Yvonne, however, was displeased. She really wanted Nikolai to know. But since Adira was against it, she felt there was nothing she could do. ****†****†****†****† Lancelot stood tall before the grandiose window, holding a glass filled with red wine which he swirled gently, watching as the liquid sloshed around the glass. He was absent-minded and filled with too many thoughts, he didn't notice when the door opened. Not until he heard his mother's voice from behind. "Son," He jolted out of his thoughts and turned to see his mother wearing a tired smile. "What're you thinking about, huh?" She stood beside him. Lancelot shook his head and took a sip from his glass. "How's Jardine?" He asked, his eyes staring out the window. "She's better now. Just taking some fresh air by the pool side." Winslet replied.Jardine had been all broken since she returned. She had narrated how her ordeal with Adira went and how she had been forced to kneel for nothing. That was the one fact that broke her - the fact that she had to kneel for nothing. It had taken a lot to get her to calm down and eat. "Life is ironic, isn't it?" Winslet chuckled as she equally gazed out to the darkness. "Who would've thought that someone like Adira would turn out to be this powerful?" Lancelot said nothing. The mention of the name alone was already making his heart bleed. "What do we do, Lancelot?" She asked in a whisper. "We really need to get Adira's signature. I strongly believe if we partner with the Yonder Dynamics, we'll become great again." Lancelot took another sip from his glass. "What do you want me to do, mother? Clearly, the Yonder Dynamics is out of our reach." Winslet glanced around, like she was about to say a secret."Have you considered going to her yourself?" She asked in a hushed tone, making Lancelot look at her with a crumpled face. "Who?" He asked, trying to act oblivious. "Adira, of course!" Lancelot titled back his head and chuckled. He took another sip form his glass before looking back at his mother. "Adira? Really?" He chuckled again. "What the hell are you saying? You want me to go to Adira? My ex-wife?" "Yes, your ex-wife. The same ex-wife that loved you so dearly." There was a brief silence. "Adira loved you so much, Lancelot, and you know it! You really think every bit of that love would've vanished in the space of a year?" Lancelot shook his head. "Just stop it, please. Have you forgotten what we did to her? I broke her heart, mother! I made her miserable. Now, there's no way she can forgive that." He took another sip from his glass, this time, in a larger gulp. "Lancelot, I wouldn't be so sure if I were you," Winslet placed a hand on his shoulder. "You guys have been friends since childhood. That lady has always loved you. You really think she'd turn her back on you if you ever show up to her?" "But, she's married!" He almost yelled. Winslet had to glance at the door to be sure Jardine wasn't around, somehow. "She's married, mother, and to the most powerful man in the country. She's totally off my limits." Silence stretched between them for some minutes. Then, Winslet added in a lowered tone. "All I'm asking is you give it a try and see. You might be completely shocked from what you'll find, Lancelot. Please, the company's at stake here."She dipped her hand into her trouser pocket and brought out a small piece of paper. "Here. I was able to get her contact. You should give her a call and see how things paly out." She proffered the paper to him, and when he made no move to collect it, she slipped it into his hand. "I'll leave you to it," She tapped his shoulder and left. Alone in the room, Lancelot stared tenderly at the piece of paper. The sight of it alone broke his heart in a thousand folds. Adira - the name rang continuously in his head. How was he going to face her after everything he did to her? How was he so sure she'd even want to look him in the face? He recalled all the moments they spent together - how they had grown up to be lovers and loved each other so dearly. He remembered how they had gotten married and all the fun times they had. He broke her heart. He abandoned her. Now, he was there, not confident of meeting her again. ****†****†****†****†****† Adira had spent sometime listening to some music to calm her mind. After a while, she became thirsty and looked round the room for a bottle of water, but couldn't find any. She decided to go downstairs to get one, but the thought of meeting with Nikolai played on her mind. 'Was he home?' she pondered. She hurried to her window and looked around for any trace of his car, but there was none. However, her sight couldn't cover up to the parking lot, and she wondered if he was already home and the car was parked in the lot. That was a possibility. 'Maybe, he's not home' she concluded. 'Even if he's home, he might be in his room and wouldn't see me.' With that conclusion, she went out of the room and headed downstairs. She didn't want Nikolai seeing the imprint on her face that was yet to fade. She kept looking around as she descended the staircase and headed for the dining. She quickly took two bottles of water from the refrigerator and was about leaving when the door to the living room opened. She gasped and turned around to find Nikolai coming in.
