The Rise of the Rejected Luna

Chapter 281

Adira was utterly confused because Nikolai rarely got visitors. Who could it be? The bell rang again. And slowly, Adira stood up to get it. She opened the door, and surprise crept into her face when she noticed it was Vesper, Nikolai's brother. She was amused. Since she started living with Nikolai, Vesper had never paid them a visit. Why was he there all of a sudden? She threw an uncomfortable stare at him, still holding the door open. "H...Hi," she forced herself to say. His chiseled frame filled out the sleek, form-fitting black outfit he wore. His steely gaze and tight-lipped expression only added to his intimidating presence, making Adira feel a sense of unease and apprehension. "Adira Ravenswood," he called out, ending it with a dark smile.Adira found it offensive that he was addressing her by her old surname. Was he there to goad her? "How're you doing?" He added. "I'm, um, I'm fine," she blinked hard, trying to get herself together. She's been trying not to mess with Nikolai's family. "What're you doing here?" She asked and watched him laugh. "Are you being serious? You dare to ask such a question when you're standing at my brother's doorway?" Getting his message, Adira stepped away from the door and let him in, and he took a deep breath as he cast a glance around. "My brother is so fucking rich, isn't he?" He muttered. Adira closed the door and just watched him from behind. "So, is he home?" He took a seat. "Not yet.""I see. I tried calling him, you know? I gave him countless calls, but he wouldn't pick them up. So, you're just... home alone?" He crossed his legs. Now, Adira didn't feel comfortable anymore. And to think Yvonne was actually out of the house? She didn't give an answer to his question. "Get me a drink, Adira. You should show some courtesy to your brother-in-law," he demanded. Adira was moved to oppose. She wished someone else was home to serve him the drink. But wouldn't it be disrespectful if she walked away without offering him a drink? "Okay," she sighed and left, returning shortly with a drink and a glass. She set it down in front of him and tried leaving again. "Why are you in a hurry?" Vesper made her pause before pouring himself a drink. "You act like you're not happy to see me." "I just don't want to be inconvenienced. So, I'd prefer staying in my room." Adira answered. "Oh, come on," Vesper took some gulps from his glass. "You really want to leave me here alone? Don't be like that. Come and have a seat." Adira ignored him and tried walking away, but he stood up quickly and held her back by the wrist. "Didn't you hear what I said?" He gruffed. "Take a seat." Adira was muddled. She didn't like the look in his eyes. "I can't. There are some things I need to do in the room," she stated calmly but coldly. "Urgh! I hate stubborn ladies like you. Sit!" He pushed her to the couch, and in the process, his glass of wine slipped from his hand and crashed to the floor. "Damn it!" He growled. "This is all your fault. If you had just listened to me and taken a damn seat!" Shock crept into Adira's eyes. Looking at him, he seemed like a lunatic who was ready to harm her. She watched uneasily as he grasped the wine bottle and drank directly from it. "You know," he sighed. "You're one pretty lady, and it's quite a shame that my brother got you. That day, when you came over for dinner, I liked you at first sight, and I was maddened to know you belonged to my brother." Adira swallowed hard as she watched him speak. She glanced at the shredded glass on the floor and suddenly developed the fear that he would harm her with it. "My brother is always getting the best, you know?" He drank more from the bottle. "From childhood, he's always been my parents' favorite. Maybe I was a little stubborn growing up, maybe I got involved with some bad groups and got arrested a few times, but is that enough to get disregarded by my family? I've fucking changed, but my father doesn't trust me anymore! He just makes me stay home all day while Nikolai runs the company. I'm the eldest son and should have more respect, but people barely know my name. To the world, I'm the rejected son of the family." He chuckled and took more gulps from the bottle. "I believe you should be having this conversation with your father, not me," Adira mentioned. "Try to do things to please him, and maybe..." "You think I haven't tried?" He snapped at her. "I've tried my best, Adira, but that man is too stone-hearted and would not even look at me." He backed away and tousled his hair. Adira thought of seizing the opportunity to run away, but he turned back at her immediately. "Let's talk about you, shall we?" He sniggered. "How has your relationship been with Nikolai? Is he giving you the best? Is he good in bed?" Adira dropped her gaze to the floor, her heart beginning to pound in her chest. "I'm sorry, but you have no right to..." "Oh! Trust me, I do have the right," he interjected, a sneer on the corners of his lips. He drew closer to her. "Just tell me, is he? Does he make you scream his name while he's riding into you? Does he make your eyes turn white and your legs wobble when he's done? Do you think I'd do better than him?" "Stop it!" She snapped and tried getting up, but a stinging slap hit her cheek. She gasped and recoiled in fear as her hand reflexively went up to her cheek, holding it. She looked up at Vesper with dreadful eyes. "Urgh! Don't make me hurt you, Adira. It's going to be nasty," he voiced and took more gulps from his bottle. "You know, since it's just us, why don't we do a quickie, you know? I'll make it very quick; no one will even notice." Adira shuddered with fear, her heart threatening to burst from her chest. She looked at him with frightening eyes and shook her head. "You've lost your mind," she muttered.Vesper laughed dryly. "Have I? Why don't we see about that, huh?" He turned to the table to return the bottle with him, and in the process, Adira tried running away. But he pulled her back and slapped her on the face again. "Let me go!" She shrieked, feeling the heat of the slap on her cheek. "Stay still now, will you? It doesn't have to get nasty," he taunted with a menacing laughter. He struggled to steady her on the couch, and when she kept protesting, he punched her hard in the tummy. "Stop it, please!" She cried out, and her fears increased when he tore the tip of her shirt. This time around, she struggled with all her might, but he was too big and made it impossible for her to break free. He was about to rip the remaining part of her shirt when the door burst open, making him freez
