She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All

Chapter 505 The Starry Proposal

Sloane suddenly noticed a corner of a paper sticking out from under Tony’s shirt. "Dad, in your shirt…" Tony abruptly clutched his stomach. "Ouch! My stomach suddenly hurts! I've got to go!" He fled in a panic. Seeing this, Shawn immediately followed. "I’ll go check on him!" In an instant, only Sloane and Lucas were left in the study. She put her hands on her hips, feigning anger. "Spill it. What exactly are you all plotting?" Sloane wanted to press the issue, but Lucas stopped her question with a kiss. She blushed and pushed him away. "So secretive… I’m leaving!" After Sloane left, the Oliver family members who had been hiding outside immediately flooded back into the study. "That was too close!" Shawn said, patting his chest. "We almost got caught!" Beth wiped the sweat from her forehead. "Next time, we need to find a more hidden place to plan…"Sloane noticed her whole family was being secretive. Beth would always duck onto the balcony to answer her phone, Lucas was nowhere to be found all day, and even Shawn was acting sneaky. "Mom, are you guys hiding something from me?" Sloane asked suspiciously. Beth’s hand trembled, and she nearly knocked over her teacup. "Of course not! I’m just… preparing for your birthday banquet!" Sloane figured they were probably just planning a birthday surprise for her, so she pretended not to know anything. That day, as the setting sun dyed the clouds rose-gold, Shawn mysteriously blindfolded Sloane. "I’m taking you somewhere." When the blindfold was removed, Sloane found herself standing in the center of a glass-domed observatory. She was surrounded by projections of the vast, starry sky, and below her feet were the glittering lights of the entire city. "This is…" Suddenly, a familiar piano melody began. Tony was sitting at a grand piano in the corner, playing "Wedding March." Beth walked over, holding a gown that sparkled like starlight. "Baby, please put this on, okay?" The gown was covered in tiny diamonds, shimmering like a river of stars as she moved. When Sloane emerged in the dress, the observatory's dome suddenly opened completely, revealing the real, vast night sky. Lucas stood in the center of the starlight, and behind him, holographic projections re-created the operating room where she saved lives, the school library, the café where they first met… Every important moment was perfectly restored. "Sloane," Lucas knelt on one knee, his voice trembling slightly, "I once thought I was a solitary star, until I met you…" As he spoke, countless drones rose into the air, forming the shape of a DNA double helix in the night sky, which finally transformed into the image of a diamond ring. Jeffrey wheeled out a star-themed cake, adorned with 22 star-shaped candles. "Child, make a wish." As Sloane closed her eyes, the entire floor of the observatory suddenly lit up, revealing a long, handwritten love letter from Lucas. In a glass display case at the very center lay a blue diamond ring—a design identical to her mother's wedding ring."Will you marry me?" Lucas took her hand. "Let me become your family, just as you became my light." Beth and Tony hugged each other, weeping. Shawn was off to the side, taking pictures frantically. Sloane’s tears fell onto the ring, refracting the brilliant light. "I do." Beneath the stars, Lucas slowly slid the ring onto her ring finger. The drones rose into the air once more, this time forming the word "Forever."
