She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All
Lucas stood to the side, watching the heartwarming scene with tenderness in his eyes. Beth suddenly grabbed his hand. "Lucas, thank you… for protecting Sloane this whole time while we were gone." Tony huffed coldly. "This kid isn’t bad, but it won’t be that easy to marry my daughter." Sloane playfully stuck her tongue out at Lucas. Lucas shook his head helplessly. He felt the sting of the challenge, but seeing Sloane so doted on and loved by so many people, he wasn't afraid of any test. Shawn said the plane was ready. Beth immediately tensed up like a lioness protecting her cub. "Sloane, sit with me, okay? I have so much I want to tell you…" As the plane took off, Sloane leaned on her mother's shoulder, listening to her softly recount her longing over the years. Tony sat across from them, staring at his daughter without blinking, afraid she would disappear if he closed his eyes. "We’ll hold a banquet as soon as we get home." Beth stroked her daughter's hair. "Let everyone know that the Oliver family’s princess has returned." Tony added, "And we need to redecorate your room. Right, what style do you like? I know several top designers…" Shawn whispered to Lucas from behind them, "It’s over. His ‘daughter-doting madman’ attribute has been completely awakened." Lucas watched Sloane, who was surrounded by affection, and the corners of his mouth turned up unconsciously. He knew that from now on, this once-lonely girl would be inundated with the world's love. And he was honored to be one of those who protected her smile. When the private jet landed at Mirevia Airport, a fleet of luxury cars was already waiting. Jeffrey stood at the front, leaning on his cane. Seeing Beth and Sloane, he said emotionally, "Good, good. Reunited at last…" Beth linked arms with her daughter, announcing proudly, "Dad, we brought Sloane back!" That night, the Oliver family's ancestral home was brightly lit. The maids bustled about, preparing rooms, while the chefs prepared a lavish welcome feast. Sloane was surrounded by the whole family. Jeffrey personally placed an heirloom jade bracelet on her wrist. "This was left by your grandmother for her granddaughter…" Beth and Tony sat on either side of their daughter, continuously serving her food. The bowl in front of Sloane was piled high like a small mountain. She didn't know whether to laugh or cry. "Mom, Dad, I really can’t eat this much…" "Just one more bite, just one…" Beth coaxed her as if she were a child, her eyes overflowing with doting affection. Late at night, Sloane lay in the princess-like bedroom, beneath a silk comforter Beth had laid out herself. Her mother sat by the bed, patting her gently as if lulling an infant to sleep. "Sleep, baby, Mommy is right here…" In the early morning, Sloane was awakened by the sound of a gentle piano. She rubbed her eyes and pushed open the French doors, only to see the garden filled with blooming roses. Tony was sitting at a white grand piano, playing. "I learned it just for you." Beth walked in carrying a breakfast tray. "He said he never had the chance to play you lullabies when you were little…" When Tony saw his daughter was awake, he immediately stopped playing. "Baby, do you like it? I also know other songs!" As he spoke, he fumbled to change the music, hitting several wrong notes.Beth shook her head helplessly and placed the tray on the bed. "I made this myself, want to try?" On the tray was a beautifully arranged fruit pancake, with a cute smiley face drawn in syrup.
