She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All

Chapter 499 The Truth Beneath the Lavender Sky

She turned to leave, but Ronald quickly called out, “What about our cooperation—” Kaizen sneered. “In your dreams.” Three days later, at the Oliver family banquet, Jeffrey raised his glass and announced proudly, “From today onward, Sloane officially joins the Oliver Group board of directors as the head of our medical division.” Sloane rose in surprise. “Grandpa, I—” “Don’t be too quick to refuse.” Jeffrey winked. “You’ve always wanted to build a world-class hospital, haven’t you? The Oliver family will fund it. You make it happen.” Under the table, Lucas squeezed her hand gently. “Congratulations.” Shawn cheered from across the table. “Let’s see who still dares to call my sister a ‘wild girl’ now!” Kaizen watched his niece’s radiant expression with quiet satisfaction. Yes, he thought, this is what a daughter of the Oliver family should be — not a pawn in marriage alliances, but a queen who stands on her own.The family’s open support for Sloane made sure no one would ever look down on her again. Just then, Kaizen received news about Beth. He hurried to tell Sloane. Pointing at the photo on his tablet, he said, “We just got word. Your mother and father are living in a manor in Provence. They used to visit there when traveling — it was during that time Beth became pregnant with you.” In the photo, Beth held Tony’s arm as they walked through endless lavender fields, soft smiles on their faces. Sloane stared at the image, her chest tightening with nervous anticipation. Lucas immediately took out his phone. “I’ll have the jet ready. We’ll leave at dawn.” Shawn was already halfway to his room, excitedly packing. “I’m coming too!” By evening, the golden light of the setting sun bathed the lavender fields in a warm glow. The air was rich with their sweet fragrance as the group followed a gravel path toward a white manor draped in climbing roses. Suddenly, a piano melody floated on the breeze. Shawn’s face lit up. “That’s Uncle Tony! He loves Mariage d’Amour!” They crept closer, peering through the garden fence — and froze at the sight before them. On the terrace, Tony sat at the piano, his fingers gliding gracefully across the keys. Beth leaned gently on his shoulder, flipping through a photo album. The sunset gilded them in soft gold, while the lavender swayed like waves in the wind. When the song ended, Shawn couldn’t hold back any longer and called out, “Aunt Beth!” Beth looked up in surprise and joy, hurrying toward them. “Shawn! Sloane! What a surprise!” She grasped Sloane’s hands, tears sparkling in her eyes. “Sloane, those treatments you taught me worked wonders — Miles remembers so much more now!” Tony joined her, smiling warmly at Sloane. “So you’re Sloane. Beth talks about you often. You look so much like her. If only you were truly our daughter…” Sloane’s fingers twisted nervously at the hem of her dress, her heartbeat racing. She turned to Lucas, who gently squeezed her hand in reassurance. Taking a deep breath, Shawn stepped forward. “Aunt Beth, Uncle Tony — we came here today because… there’s something very important we need to tell you.” Beth blinked in confusion. “Something important?” The air seemed to still, heavy with the weight of the moment. Sloane’s throat tightened; even breathing became difficult. Lucas reached for her hand once more, his touch calm and steady, silently giving her strength.
