She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All

Chapter 489 The Journey to Remember

Sloane nodded softly, her eyes filled with quiet apology. As expected, Tony woke soon after. He sat upright against the headboard, calm and composed, but there was a faint unfamiliarity in his gaze. “Excuse me, ma’am,” he said politely to Beth. “Where am I?” Beth’s heart clenched, but she forced a tender smile. “This is our home. I’m your wife, Beth.” Tony frowned slightly but didn’t argue. His eyes wandered around the room, uncertain. “I’m sorry… I seem to have forgotten.” By the door, Lucas murmured to Sloane, “At least this time he isn’t seeing us as enemies.” Beth took a slow breath and then, as if deciding something monumental, turned toward the wardrobe. She opened it and began packing a suitcase. Tony simply watched her, silent and still, his eyes following her movements. When she finished, Beth knelt beside the bed, looking up at him with a gentle smile. “Let me take you somewhere, alright?” Tony stared at her, feeling an inexplicable ache in his chest. His throat tightened, and before he knew it, he nodded. “Where are you going?” Sloane asked, noticing the suitcase in Beth’s hand as she hurried over. Beth turned back with a calm, steady look. “I’m going to try what you suggested—revisit the places we went when we were young. Maybe that will help him remember.” Then, as if letting go of a weight, she smiled faintly. “And if it doesn’t work… then I’ll just use that time to make him fall in love with me all over again.” She turned toward Shawn and smiled warmly. “Shawn, I’m leaving the company in your hands. Do a good job, alright? I don’t want to come back just to clean up your mess.” “Aunt, I’m not a kid anymore,” Shawn said with a small grin, though his voice trembled slightly. “You don’t have to worry. Just go enjoy yourself with Uncle.” Beth’s expression softened. She knew this trip might take months—or longer. “Don’t see us off,” she said quietly. “I hate goodbyes.” Then she turned to Sloane, her eyes shining with affection and sadness. She pulled Sloane into a tight hug. “When Miles gets better, we’ll come to Stonebridge to visit you.” Sloane’s throat felt tight, and her voice came out barely audible. “Okay.” That afternoon, Beth and Tony boarded a flight overseas. Twenty years ago, their honeymoon had begun the same way—from this very airport. Standing by the Sonos River, Tony gazed at the illuminated spire of Einz Tower. “This place… feels familiar,” he murmured suddenly. Beth’s heart leapt. She turned to him quickly, hope rising in her eyes—but Tony frowned, puzzled by his own words. Meanwhile, back at Oliver Manor, Dr. Grayson finally opened his eyes. Shawn stood beside Sloane, helping her change his bandages. Grayson’s gaze shifted weakly between them. His lips were dry and cracked, and he struggled to speak. “W… water…” Shawn immediately lifted him up and guided a straw to his lips. Grayson took a few sips, his breathing easing as the pain dulled. Looking around, he seemed to realize he was in the Oliver family’s care. His gaze finally settled on Sloane. He noticed the silver needles in her hand, then looked down at his own bandaged chest. A faint smile tugged at his lips. “Beth mentioned Dr. Rivers before. She said your medical skills were remarkable. Now I see it for myself. If not for you, I doubt I’d still be alive.”
