She Wore Many Masks, and Ruled Them All

Chapter 485 The Lost Years

Lucas gently wrapped an arm around Sloane’s shoulders. “We’ll find a way. Together. We’ll help Mr. Tony get his memories back.” Sloane leaned lightly against him, her voice barely above a whisper. “I hope so.” Upstairs, Beth sat quietly beside Tony’s bed, her hand brushing softly against his cheek. Every line of his face, every breath he took, felt painfully precious. Tony’s lashes trembled. Slowly, he opened his eyes. Beth held her breath, afraid even her heartbeat might startle him. “Beth?” His voice was hoarse but clear, his eyes gentle and bright. “What are you doing here? Where… where am I?” Beth’s eyes widened, hope flooding her chest. She grabbed his hand tightly. “Miles, you remember me?” Tony smiled faintly, the same warm, boyish smile she hadn’t seen in years. “Of course I do, my girlfriend.” He glanced around the room in confusion. “But… where is this? Weren’t we just in the library studying for finals?” Beth’s smile faltered. His memory had gone back twenty years—to when they first fell in love. “Miles, it’s 2025 now,” she said softly. “We’ve been married for twenty years…” “Stop kidding around.” Tony chuckled and shook his head. “We’re only juniors in college. How could we have been married for twenty years?” Beth stared at him for a moment, then smiled again—this time, without correcting him. “Come on,” Tony said suddenly, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “I want to take you somewhere.” “Alright,” Beth said, forcing her voice to stay steady. “Where are we going?” “You’ll see.” Tony grinned, pulling her by the hand like an eager young man. He led her straight to the city’s commercial district and stopped in front of a high-end boutique. “Ma’am—” The clerk at the door began to greet them, but Beth quickly caught her eye and gave a small shake of her head. “Hi,” Tony said cheerfully, pointing to the display window. “Can you take out that light blue dress? I’d like my girlfriend to try it on.” The clerk blinked, recognizing Mr. Tony yet sensing something strange in the situation. Still, she nodded politely. “Of course.” Beth’s heart clenched. She remembered this moment clearly—the day Tony had celebrated their hundredth day together as a couple. Back then, he’d saved up every cent from his small start-up to buy her that dress. Years later, they had purchased the entire boutique, and the same blue dress had remained in the window ever since as a cherished keepsake. The clerk brought over the dress, and Tony smiled, eyes glowing with the same youthful spark he once had. “Beth, the first time I saw this dress, I knew it’d look perfect on you. Go on, try it for me.” “Alright.” Beth lifted her chin with a sweet, radiant smile. As she walked toward the fitting room, she motioned for the clerk to come with her. Before going in, she whispered urgently, “Please don’t talk to him. Just follow my lead, alright? He’s… not himself right now.” Inside the fitting room, Beth’s hands trembled as she changed into the dress. Once she was alone, she quickly pulled out her phone and dialed Sloane.“Sloane! His memory’s gone back twenty years—he thinks we’re still in college. He says he’s taking me out to sea next. I need your help…” “I understand,” Sloane said immediately. “We’ll set it up.” “Good. You’ll only have two hours,” Beth warned before hanging up. She took a deep breath, then stepped out of the fitting room. The moment Tony saw her, his eyes lit up like a boy seeing his first sunrise. “Beth, you’re beautiful!” he said, his voice full of awe and youthful energy. He spun around, grinning from ear to ear. “Even better than I imagined.”
