Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
After he finished speaking, Owen watched their reactions closely. Just as he expected, the mention of Natalie made both of them tense up—especially Tiffany, whose hatred was practically written all over her face. Owen knew these two had a serious grudge against her. To keep the upper hand, he made sure he knew everything about everyone in the building, especially when it came to someone as strong and well-stocked as Natalie. It was Tiffany who'd stirred up the whole building to attack the 14th floor, and she'd even argued with Natalie face-to-face. Clearly, they knew each other. Since they were familiar but had never gotten help from Natalie, Owen guessed there was bad blood between them, and their resentment ran deeper than anyone else's.He was always good at stirring up trouble. Now, he leaned in mysteriously. "The person she killed today wasn't just anyone—it was a cop." Tiffany's mouth dropped open. "A cop? She's that bold?" Owen nodded. "Yeah, she attacked a police officer. Shows how crazy she is. If you end up on her bad side, who knows what could happen to you?" He noticed Braxton's uneasy look and smirked to himself. When you're up against someone powerful, what's the best move? Stir the pot, then wait for your chance. With just a few words, Owen had Braxton and Tiffany all riled up. Satisfied, he put his arm around Elena and walked away. Owen's real goal was to push Braxton and Tiffany into making the first move against Natalie. But he didn't realize Braxton was already scared out of his mind. His legs felt weak just thinking about Natalie. She killed a cop, but she's still letting me and Tiffany live? A wave of dread washed over Braxton. His back felt cold, and he couldn't shake the feeling that something bad was about to happen. As Owen and Elena left, Braxton and Tiffany exchanged worried glances. Tiffany frowned. "Braxton, do you think Natalie's lost her mind? She attacked a cop!" Braxton's thoughts were spinning. "Why would the police suddenly come after her? Did someone report her?" Tiffany nodded. "Probably. That bitch has made plenty of enemies." She smiled, feeling smug. "Looks like she's finally in big trouble! Killing a cop is a huge crime. I bet a whole SWAT team will show up to arrest her soon." Braxton wasn't so optimistic."With the way she acts, I doubt she'll go quietly ... If she snaps, we could get dragged into it. Maybe we should get out of here for a while?" "No way!" Tiffany's voice was sharp. "I want to see her go down with my own eyes!" Braxton's brow furrowed. "Wait until she's arrested, then visit her in jail if you want to gloat! For now, let's lay low." Tiffany huffed. "If you want to leave, go ahead! I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying right here to watch Natalie get hauled off by the cops." Braxton shrugged. "Fine, I'm leaving. Be careful." Tiffany was furious at how chicken he'd become. "Why are you so scared now? Is Natalie really that terrifying?" Braxton nodded. "She is. I'm not messing with her." Arguing the whole way home, Braxton split their supplies, leaving Tiffany her share and packing up his own to get ready to leave.Tiffany called after him. "Where are you going to hide?" "My old rental. I still have two spare keys." Tiffany frowned. "But you moved out—no one lives there now?" Braxton said, "I just left before the apocalypse hit. No way it's been rented out yet." Tiffany tried to stop him. "Even if it wasn't rented, who knows if someone took over during the flood? You can't just barge in." Braxton thought for a moment. "You're right, that could happen. I won't take all my stuff at once." He grabbed just enough food for one day. "I'll take a little and check it out. If someone's there, I'll come back. If not, I'll stay. If I don't come back, could you bring the rest of my stuff over tomorrow?" Tiffany didn't say anything. She couldn't argue with him anymore, so she just nodded.Watching him leave, she couldn't help but complain. "Unbelievable. Braxton's actually scared of that bitch!" Braxton slung his backpack over his shoulder and headed out, thinking. When Tiffany comes tomorrow, I'll make her stay. No way I'm moving back until Natalie's dealt with. He'd used Tiffany as a punching bag during the apocalypse, but now that things were calmer and she'd recovered, she was still his cousin. He'd try to keep her safe. Natalie never did things by the book. He'd figured out by now that the reason she hadn't killed him or Tiffany was because she wanted to torture them slowly.
