Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 91 Braxton?

No matter what, the fact that the flood had finally receded was something to celebrate. But Natalie quickly put a damper on things. "I think Harold has a point." Olivia frowned. "Oh, come on, Natalie! Why are you joining him in scaring everyone?" Natalie spoke seriously. "Isn't there an old saying? After a great disaster, a plague always follows." Olivia was stunned for a moment. She realized Natalie was right. After the flood, there were rotting bodies and four months' worth of waterlogged trash everywhere outside. It really was the perfect breeding ground for disease. As a doctor, Olivia understood better than anyone just how terrifying viruses and bacteria could be. Her brow furrowed as she remembered that historic epidemic decades ago.Back then, there hadn't been any flood apocalypse, no looting or violence—just a sudden outbreak of a virus, and so many lives were lost, never to see another year. Even with a fully functioning healthcare system, it had been horrifying. Now, every piece of medical equipment and all the medicine had been underwater for four months. If an epidemic broke out now ... Olivia's face grew grim. Natalie saw her expression and knew Olivia was taking her seriously, so she continued, "That's why we shouldn't rush outside just yet. We need to stay home for a while, just in case there's something nasty out there. Let's wait and see." Olivia and Harold both nodded. Natalie breathed a sigh of relief. Honestly, the whole "plague" thing was just a saying. The truth was, the Great Heat had arrived. Temperatures were rising too fast and too high for most germs to even survive—they got killed off before they could spread. There were a few minor outbreaks in the middle of the Great Heat, but none of them were really serious. The real danger was the sudden, brutal heat. Many people, excited to finally get outside, ran off too far and couldn't make it back home—they ended up dying from the heat out there. Natalie had only wanted to scare Olivia to keep her from running out and getting herself killed. They all said their goodbyes and headed home. Natalie went back to dressing Lucky in her climate suit. "Pfft!" She couldn't help but burst out laughing when she saw her dog in the outfit. The climate suit was skin-colored and fit tightly. When Natalie wore it, it just looked like long underwear, easy to cover up with regular clothes on top. But on Lucky, the same material looked absolutely ridiculous. The chubby, creamy-white Lucky was now wrapped in a suit as thin as a butterfly's wing, looking like she'd snuck into someone's sexy stockings ... Natalie slapped the table, laughing out loud. Lucky, already uncomfortable in the suit, saw her owner's reaction and ran straight to the mirror. "Ow ow ow! Ow ow ow!" The moment she saw herself, her fur stood on end, and she bared her teeth, barking furiously. What kind of freaky little dog is that?! She barked for a while before realizing—that was her. Lucky snorted angrily, glancing sideways at Natalie. "Ow ow ow ow ow!" Take this ugly thing off me right now!Natalie was still laughing so hard she could barely breathe, but seeing how upset she was, she quickly helped her out of the suit. Once free, Lucky strutted over to the mirror, admiring herself. Now this is the pure, flawless, gorgeous me! "Lucky, when the weather gets hot, don't come begging me to put that suit back on you!" Natalie chuckled, folding the suit and putting it in his little closet. Unit 801. Braxton was busy with his daily workout at home—yanking Tiffany's hair and banging her head on the floor. After pounding away dozens of times, he finally let go. He felt like he'd just finished a sweaty round of cardio, flopped onto the couch, and took a drink of water. Suddenly, he heard cheering outside. He ran to the window and saw that all the floodwater was gone.Braxton gripped the windowsill tightly, his heart soaring with joy. We finally made it! No more daily humiliation just to eat! He was going to get back to his PhD! Flirt with rich girls! Reach the top of his game!! But before he could calm down, he heard a noise behind him. Turning around, he saw Tiffany, who had been lying half-dead on the floor, now struggling to get up. She lifted her head, blood slowly trickling down her forehead. Braxton looked at her impatiently, ready to grab her again, but suddenly she spoke. "Braxton?" Braxton froze. This was the first time she'd spoken without that silly chuckle since she'd lost her mind. He called her tentatively, "Tiffany?"Tiffany rubbed her aching head. "Braxton, why does my whole body hurt so much ... ?" Braxton's face lit up. "Tiffany, are you back to normal?" Then he grew a bit anxious. "How do you feel?" Tiffany frowned. "I don't know, everything hurts ... "What happened? I remember knocking out that bitch Natalie, trying to break into her place, and then ... and then ... "
