Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
That boatload of stuff they grabbed yesterday was a real jackpot. Forget everything else—just those 100 pounds of potatoes alone could keep her fed for a long time. Olivia would never go robbing anyone on her own. But if someone tried to mess with her, and she ended up taking their supplies instead? That was justice. She stayed quiet, clutching her nail gun and scanning the area. Let's see if any fools out here want to die today. As the saying went, if she dwelled on trouble long enough, trouble would come looking for her. Soon, Olivia and her group spotted a group of robbers, but they weren't the victims this time. The three of them had just left the floating market in their inflatable rescue boat when they heard shouting nearby. "Guys! That guy with the crappy veggies this morning just traded for a ton of meat and supplies!" "Perfect! Let's clean him up!" "Pretty boy, acting all fancy in a suit, huh? "Be smart and hand over your supplies. Maybe we'll let you live." All fancy in a suit? Natalie caught the voices and glanced over. Sure enough, it was the man in the suit they'd traded with earlier—Roderick. Right now, he was surrounded by three kayaks and about ten guys waving weapons and yelling. He frowned, trying to talk them down. "Let's be reasonable. I can pay a toll, but I'm not giving everything away." It was his first time trading for supplies, and he hadn't expected to get targeted so fast. The stuff on his boat was for his wife and kid. No way he'd just hand it over. He gripped his big scythe nervously. "Toll?" The leader laughed. "Did he just say toll? Pretty boy thinks he can pay a toll!" "Dream on! Why settle for a bit when we can take it all?" "Enough talk—kill him and grab everything!" Roderick knew trouble was coming. As the guys charged him, he swung his scythe. He was skilled and managed to wound two attackers right away, but he was outnumbered. Soon, he was getting hammered from all sides, taking several hits. Olivia saw the chaos and quickly nudged Natalie. "Should we jump in?" "Yes," Natalie said immediately, steering their inflatable rescue boat straight for the fight. No way she'd sit that out—especially with 1,000 pounds of fertilizer still to collect. The motor roared as the boat sped forward, spraying water everywhere and catching the robbers' attention. Roderick, battered and bruised, felt relieved when he saw a girl driving the boat with one hand and holding a nail gun with the other, speeding toward them. She pulled off a sharp drift, splashing water all over the crowd. Then nails flew, knocking down all four guys who had jumped onto his boat. Relieved, Roderick let out a breath and shot Natalie a thankful glance. Olivia wasted no time, shooting at the robbers' kayaks and puncturing them fast. The robbers, surprised by the sudden attack, shifted their focus immediately. "Quick! Take out these three! They've got nail guns!"But Natalie, Olivia, and Harold weren't giving them the chance. Following yesterday's strategy, Natalie revved her chainsaw to hold the line, Olivia fired with precision, and Harold filled in every gap. The fight ended quickly. Olivia and Harold finished off the ones thrashing in the water while Natalie jumped onto Roderick's boat to help him up. "Are you okay?" Roderick, covered in blood, finally managed to breathe. "Thank you so much!" Natalie scanned his wounds—deep cuts, still bleeding, lips pale from blood loss. "We need to stop the bleeding, or you're in serious trouble." Using her backpack as cover, she pulled a bandage from her storage space and started wrapping his wounds. Hang in there, buddy—my thousand pounds of fertilizer depends on you!Roderick gritted his teeth as she tied off the wounds roughly. After a while, he began to feel better. "These guys are ruthless! They weren't just after my supplies—they wanted me dead!" Natalie gave him a look that said he was a little slow to catch on. "People try to mug others every day. If you're hauling this much stuff, bring a friend next time." Roderick nodded. "I owe you my life. I don't even know how to repay you." He took off his emerald ring and handed it to Natalie. "Since you noticed it earlier, please take it as thanks." Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Aren't you worried your boss will be mad?" Roderick shook his head. "He won't. You saved my life—my boss will understand."
