Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 74 Don't Eat Them Yet

Olivia shot Natalie a thankful glance. "Thanks, Natalie!" Harold, who'd been listening in, was happy for Olivia. "That's awesome! The 14th floor is way safer! My idol is indeed the best—pretty and kind!" Natalie ignored his buttering-up and told him to stop talking and move his stuff home. Then, she turned to Olivia. "Wait for me here." She headed back to her place, grabbed the universal lockpick Braxton and Tiffany had brought over earlier, and came back. With Olivia beside her, Natalie unlocked Unit 1401. Inside, it only had a few dusty pieces of furniture covered with sheets. Olivia carefully shifted her supplies inside, making sure not to mess with anything. Then, she ran downstairs, grabbed the rest of her stash and her medical books, and brought everything up. Once she was settled in the new unit, she sat down and started counting. She had two basins of dried fish and more than 100 pounds of crocodile meat waiting to be traded. She also had about 100 pounds of potatoes, plus 150 pounds of oats, pasta, and sweet potatoes. There were also two boxes of bottled water, three matchboxes, two gas cylinders, one gas canister, and a bundle of candles. Olivia couldn't help but think that she was quite well-off now. She glanced over the supplies in her new home. With the double-layered hallway doors outside and Natalie right across from her, she finally felt a lot safer. Since meeting Natalie, good things just kept happening. Meanwhile, Harold reached his front door—only to find two dead bodies sprawled outside. He froze for a second, then smirked. Those idiots must've spotted him leaving and figured his mother was alone and easy to rob. He might've stepped out, but the traps didn't. His mother wasn't as strong as a guy, but when it came to using those traps, she was way scarier. The two intruders had been turned into pincushions by poisoned arrows. Harold dragged the bodies into the floodwater and went inside. "Mom! Come help! I brought home the supplies!" Ghania walked over, grumbling, "You didn't make enough poison. I used nearly half a bottle just now. Make more when you can." Harold was completely shocked. "What?! There were only two people, and you burned through half a bottle?"Mom, you're too savage! That much poison could've wiped out 20 people!" He paused, then added, "Besides, it's not like I can whip up more whenever I want. We don't have the chemicals to waste." Ghania pouted. "Fine, fine. I'll go easy next time, you brat." She snatched the potatoes and oats out of his hands. When she was about to say something else, she heard chirping. "What's that noise?" Harold grinned mysteriously. "I got gifts for you. It's out there. Go check it out yourself." Ghania peeked outside curiously. "Chicks? Rabbits?!" Her face lit up. She dashed out in her slippers, scooping up the cardboard box. "My boy! You even brought food back?" " ... Don't eat them yet! We gotta raise them first. Let's take it slow and steady.""I know, I know! Chickens lay eggs, and eggs hatch more chickens!" She happily carried the chicks and rabbits to the spare unit. "Go rest. I'll get a nest ready for our new family." She unlocked the door, muttering, "Life is looking better now ... " Harold watched her go with a smile, then got back to hauling supplies. While their family was busy celebrating, Natalie was way calmer when she returned home. She tossed her supplies into her storage space like it was nothing. With how much she already had, more didn't even faze her. Lucky bounded over, tail wagging like crazy. Natalie's mood finally lifted when she saw her excited buddy. She scooped the dog up, rubbing her all over with affection. Once Lucky calmed down, she pulled a roasted lamb rib from her storage space and handed it to her dog.Afterward, she changed clothes, washed her hands, and sat down with a steaming plate of blue cheese pasta topped with mushrooms. It smelled like something fresh out of a fancy restaurant. She queued up a drama called "The Legend of the Crowned Women" and dug in, feeling satisfied. Lucky happily chewed her lamb rib. But when the smell of the pasta hit, she froze, staring at Natalie like she was insane. What are you eating?! Is that poop?! The dog gave her a side-eye and scooted farther away, clutching her rib. Natalie saw her dog's reaction and rolled her eyes. "Lucky, what's that look for?" Lucky turned her butt toward Natalie and kept chewing on the lamb rib from a safe distance. She clearly decided to respect Natalie food choices and enjoy her life. Natalie was speechless, thinking a dog had no taste. She gave up on arguing. She bent over her plate and slurped her pasta even louder. When the meal was done, they flopped onto the couch together. She reached into her pocket and tucked the emerald bracelet she'd traded for at the market into her storage space.
