Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 73 Nobody Will Leave Alive

At first, people figured the stories about her were exaggerated. But now, it seemed that those supplies came from robbery and killing. Even her two partners carried the same cold, dangerous vibe. Some of the scared ones huddled together and closed the windows. But not everyone was afraid of Natalie. Some reckless types were still itching to charge in, ready to risk their lives. Nobody could turn down the pull of food. Standing tall on the inflatable boat, Natalie killed the chainsaw's engine and swept the crowd with a cold glare. She shouted, "This isn't yours! Don't even think about it. If you doubt me, go ahead and come at me! Nobody will leave alive!" Her voice echoed through the buildings loudly and clearly. "No one will leave alive ... " People who had taken lives always had that deathly aura. It freaked plenty of neighbors out, especially those from Building 6 who'd already heard the rumors about her. They backed off fast, scared she'd turn on them next. A few stubborn ones just glared, but none of them dared to move. That was exactly what Natalie wanted—fear. If she didn't establish dominance now, they'd keep coming for her, and peace would be impossible. Even if her threats fell flat, she still wasn't shaken. She had a trump card tucked away—a MAC-10 hidden in her storage space. Even if everyone jumped her at once, one spray from that submachine gun would scatter the whole lot.Guns were banned in Drakoria. Not just here in Maplecourt, but across Northlorn. Even the police only carried pistols. As long as no big shots or international organizations noticed her, she was almost invincible. Honestly, with the world drowning in chaos, those people had bigger things to deal with. So, Natalie looked down on all those greedy neighbors equally. The inflatable rescue boat soon reached the window of Building 6. Natalie stayed outside with her weapon ready, while Olivia and Harold carried load after load inside. Once they got in, the three kept going back and forth, hauling everything upstairs. Neighbors peeked out of doorways. But when they saw Natalie, they slammed their doors shut. Setting outsiders aside, the people in this building were too scared to cross her. They could fish to survive—why mess with the psycho with the chainsaw? Trip by trip, the three hauled everything up to the 14th-floor hallway. There, they divided the things. Olivia and Harold kept the supplies they'd traded for, while Natalie took her share of crocodile meat. The haul from the raid got split up fair and square. Everyone got a gas canister and 100 pounds of potatoes. The rest of the dry goods and snacks were divided three ways. Harold's place was short on snacks, while Olivia didn't have enough dry goods, so the two of them traded a little extra. Natalie already had electricity and water in her storage space, and she'd grabbed a ton of bottled water from the supermarket before. So, she let them have most of the water, keeping just a couple of bottles for herself.Harold and Olivia noticed that and gave her more of the other supplies in return. Nobody tried to cheat anyone. When the sorting was done, Natalie thought for a moment and said to Olivia, "We scored big today, but things could get rougher from here. "If you want, you could move into Unit 1401, right across from me. Nobody lives there." Harold had set up a trap on the hallway door, so if Olivia moved into that unit, she'd be way safer. Being on the same floor also meant they could watch each other's backs. Of course, Natalie wasn't about to risk her safety. Even if Olivia betrayed her, Unit 1402 had two blast-proof armored doors. But if Olivia stayed put, someone might break into her place tonight. People always went after the easy targets.Compared to Harold's and Natalie's secure setups, Olivia's security door was nothing to any thief. Olivia's face lit up. "Really? Can I?" But then, she hesitated. "But what if the owners return and accuse me of trespassing?" She was still holding on to the hope that once the water dropped, life would go back to normal. Natalie couldn't tell her the real truth that the apocalypse wasn't ending, and those owners weren't ever returning. Whether they stayed away or couldn't come back, nobody knew. Natalie just smiled and reassured Olivia, "Don't stress. Stay until the flood has gone. If the owners show up, I'll help you explain it to them." Olivia thought about it, then nodded. Her safety mattered most. To be honest, she'd already been uneasy before Natalie said anything. The way the neighbors had stared at her earlier had been downright chilling.
