Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 697 A Discount Coupon on the Road

Angus only lifted it to his nose, sniffed once, and then kept talking. "I heard on the radio that the official base was finished. And when I heard it was built in Yloria, I knew right away Xavier had to be involved. "Let me put it this way. Even if he's not some big shot, he definitely has a say in things there." Angus looked at Natalie with bright, eager eyes. "Didn't you say you want to buy stuff? I trust Xavier. Even if he didn't land a real position, being a warehouse manager would be easy for him! "Just say the word. What do you want to buy?" Now that he knew they were back in Yloria, his eyebrows were practically flying up. "As long as it's not too hard to get, I'll try my best to make him give it to you for free! Consider it paying you back for the ride!" Natalie thought about the submarine she had been dreaming of. Free? Yeah, that was probably not happening. She smiled instead. "Free or not, let's put that aside for now. At least the price should be lower, right?" Angus patted his chest. "Of course! You saved my life!" Natalie's lips curved up in satisfaction. Picking up a discount coupon on the road—pretty good deal. "So what are you planning to buy?" Angus looked around, puzzled. "By the way, where are all your supplies?" Aside from their backpacks, the vehicle was empty. The trunk had only two small cans of gas. There was nothing else. If they were here to buy things, why didn't they bring food? Even if they weren't buying anything, no one would travel with this little gear. Those two backpacks didn't even look like they could hold enough food for Dynamite. Natalie replied calmly, "Have you ever seen a rich person walking around all day with gold bars on their back?" Then she shot him a look. "What? You want me to load the supplies in the car and leave you outside?" Angus froze for a second. Then guilt spread across his face. "That makes sense. I do take up a lot of space. Sorry about that. I really caused you trouble." Honest people really were easy to fool. Natalie accepted the apology without a hint of shame and added casually, "We didn't bring our supplies into the city. Other companions are watching them for us outside." It was a neat explanation. It explained why they carried so little, and it also told him they had plenty of other people waiting beyond the city. Since his family really was part of the authorities, it made sense to treat him like an official contact. After all, they still planned to trade building materials for a submarine. They couldn't let anyone start questioning where those materials came from. Angus nodded, neither agreeing nor disagreeing. He had only seen the two of them once. After that, he passed out and stayed unconscious the whole time. He had no idea how many companions Natalie and Cassian had or how much supply they carried. Curious, he asked, "So where are we heading now? Did you find the location of the official base?" Natalie looked ahead. They would see the white chapel after driving a little farther. She answered simply, "Not the base. It's a chapel. You'll understand when we get there." Natalie paused, then asked, "Did your brother-in-law have any religious beliefs before?" Angus shook his head without hesitation. "No. He's a firm atheist. He only believes in his country." Natalie nodded, thinking. Then she warned him, "Everyone in this city follows one religion now. It's called Dawnlight. Your family may be part of it too." "What religion?" Angus froze for a second, then snorted with laughter. "That's ridiculous!" He waved his hand. "Even if the whole world believed in that thing, Xavier never would." He looked out the window and sighed. "This place is really lively." Then he grinned. "Are we going to find Xavier? If that's the plan, there's no need to go to some chapel. He won't be there. Let's just head straight to the official base." Natalie shot him a look and didn't bother arguing. "Get serious. Keep a low profile. Until you see your family, talk less." The people here believed in the Dawnmother to an extreme level. Just one careless comment from Cassian earlier had drawn the attention of half the street. Angus was known for speaking without thinking and always acting playfully. It would be easy for him to anger the believers with his words. She didn't want any trouble before the deal was done. After a short pause, she added, "If you say something stupid and cause trouble, we'll leave you there to fend for yourself." Seeing how serious she looked, Angus pulled his neck in and sobered up. He talked a lot, but he wasn't clueless. Otherwise, he wouldn't have survived this long. The girl was young, but from all his years traveling and scraping by, he could tell she was dangerous. Since she warned him so seriously, he took it to heart.
