Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog
Angus caught the backpack with both hands. Instead of checking his supplies, he started circling the vehicle, full of amazement. "Oh my god, what kind of car is this? This is way too cool! It looks like a tank! "You modified this yourselves, didn't you? Or is it some rare, limited-edition model? I've traveled all over for years and never seen anything like it! "Wow! Just wow! It's beautiful!" He had been tied up for too long, and his joints were stiff. His steps were crooked and shaky, almost like a zombie. Add in his loud shouting, shining eyes, and a bit of drool at the corner of his mouth, and the whole scene looked ridiculous. Natalie and Cassian couldn't help laughing. This guy was so funny. Lucky lay proudly on the back seat, lifting her head and looking down at the excited man with clear disdain. Hmph. Such a clueless human. Getting this excited over a car. Then her eyes met Angus's. "Oh! Dynamite! That's great. We meet again!" Lucky shot up at once and bared her teeth, letting out a sharp bark. Who are you calling Dynamite? Say that again and see what happens! Angus got a face full of dog spit and wiped it away without thinking. As he wiped, he kept talking. "Hey, Dynamite, that's not very nice." That was the last straw. Lucky opened her mouth wide and lunged forward, ready to bite him.You think I won't bite just because I'm cute? Natalie reacted fast. "Lucky! Stop!" Lucky listened immediately and froze in place. She didn't bite, but she leaned forward again and spat on Angus's face one more time, clearly angry. Angus wiped his face again and laughed. "You're so playful!" Natalie was worried that if he kept talking, Lucky would actually chew on him. She cut in sharply. "Enough talking. We're already in Yloria. What's your plan now?" Angus slapped his forehead and looked around. "We're already here? "Wow! Cars really are something. Close your eyes, open them, and you're here! If I had walked, it would've taken years. In weather like this, my legs would've—" Before he could finish, Natalie interrupted impatiently. "Are you still looking for your family or not?" This man could drift off topic in seconds. If you didn't pull him back, he'd wander straight into nonsense. Angus froze, then nodded hard. "Yes! I'm!" Natalie held out her hand. "Then stop talking. Give me the family photo." Angus didn't understand why, but he obediently pulled the photo from his wallet and handed it over. Natalie glanced at it, then turned to Cassian. "Watch him." Cassian nodded. "Go." "Go?" Angus looked confused. "Go where?" Neither of them answered him. Cassian stayed in the alley with Angus. Natalie took the photo and walked back to the same window where she had just spoken with Martha. She needed to confirm what kind of position this deputy mayor really held now. If he turned out to be useless, she would leave Angus here and stop bringing him along. He was far too noisy. She had already brought him to Yloria. That was more than enough kindness. When Martha saw Natalie come back, she immediately leaned toward the window and called out warmly, "What's wrong, sweetheart? Did you get lost on the way to the chapel?" Natalie smiled at her. "Hey, I wanted to ask you about something." Martha slapped her chest confidently. "Ask away! If I know it, I'll tell you everything." Natalie curved her lips slightly. The people of Yloria felt just like they had before the apocalypse—warm, simple, and kind. Sure, their minds weren't quite right anymore, believing in that strange religion. Deep down, they weren't bad people. This kind of genuine kindness couldn't be faked. No matter how hard someone like Fiorella tried, she'd never pull it off. Natalie took out the photo and pointed to Angus's brother-in-law. "Do you know this man?" Martha leans closer and squints at the picture. Natalie added, "He should be someone from the official base. I'm not sure if you've seen him before..." Martha studied it for a moment, then her eyes lit up. "I've seen him! This is the big leader I told you about!" Natalie raised an eyebrow. "The big leader?" "Yes! The top guy at the base!" Martha said with a grin. "The photo's small, and there are a lot of people in it. His face is tiny, so I didn't dare recognize him right away." As she spoke, she cracked the window open a bit and reached out, pointing at the man's face in the photo."This is what the top leader looks like. Very easy to recognize. He was younger back then, with fewer wrinkles, and his hair was still black. This must be a photo from many years ago. He looks much older now." After confirming it, Natalie thanked Martha, took the photo, and walked back.
