Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 673 Swallow By the Sea

Once-glorious Olissea was being swallowed by the sea, inch by inch. The tall towers of the business district. The old apartment blocks are full of everyday life. The ultra-rich neighborhoods are worth millions per home. At this moment, they were all the same. No matter how much food or supplies people had saved, it all became meaningless. Of course, Natalie and Cassian were not the only ones with a helicopter. The wealthy residents in the luxury districts had them too. In just a short time, Natalie spotted several private helipads. But sadly, none of those helicopters ever got the chance to lift off. Inside the city, the view was blocked by buildings. No one could see the tsunami coming. By the time people realized what was happening, the massive wall of water was already crashing down on them with unstoppable force. There was no time to start an engine. No time to escape. Natalie and Cassian were the first to notice the tsunami. Their helicopter was right there. Even so, they almost failed to take off. As for everyone else in Olissea, there was no chance for them to escape. Natalie looked down at the devastation below, her chest feeling tight. She had lived two lives and survived countless apocalypses. She had seen cruelty, hunger, and despair. Nothing had ever shocked her like this tsunami. A deep sense of helplessness rose inside her. She and Cassian had survived only because they were lucky. If they had not suddenly decided to take the three little ones to see the ocean, if they had driven through the city, they would never have noticed the tsunami in time. Their fate would have been the same as the people below. By the time the wave hit, there would have been no chance to start the helicopter. They would have rushed into the storage space in panic. But then what? The storage space could only last for a limited time. When they came out, the city would be gone, nothing left but a violent, endless ocean. The place where they entered the storage space might already be deep underwater. As her thoughts spiraled, Natalie suddenly felt chaos inside the mansion. She checked with her mind and froze. The three little ones had completely lost it. Lucky was howling at the top of her lungs. Baron paced back and forth, restless and anxious. Cash flapped his wings wildly, running in circles like he had been startled out of his mind. What was going on? They don't bother drinking the spring water. All three crowded onto the lawn, acting crazy. Had that sky-blocking wave scared them that badly? Natalie quickly released them from the storage space. The moment they saw their human, everything changed. Baron stopped pacing. Cash stopped flapping. Lucky stopped howling. All three rushed straight at Natalie. Cash even took a moment to circle Cassian twice. Surrounded by them and listening to their rapid animal chatter, Natalie took a sip of spring water, then said firmly, "Stop talking! One at a time!" She did not expect what came next. "Waaah! Natalie, I thought you were dead!" "Oh wow, human, you're still alive?" "Your man is alive too?"Natalie felt her temple throb. "Thanks a lot. I'm still breathing." Lucky scrunched up her face, eyes full of tears, and clung to Natalie. The dog was crying in the ugliest way possible. "I was so scared! Natalie, if you died, I wouldn't live either!" Natalie's expression softened. She gently rubbed Lucky's head. "Don't be afraid," she said quietly. "We're all going to live." Thinking about it, it made sense. The three little ones didn't understand that as long as the storage space existed, Natalie was safe. All they knew was that the mansion was a place to hide from danger. They had all rushed inside, but Natalie hadn't been there. The tsunami had looked terrifying. Of course they would worry about her. Lucky, who had sensed the danger first, was the worst. She had been so anxious that she howled like a wolf. Baron was the calmest of the three. The moment he saw that Natalie and Cassian were safe, he settled down right away. Cash stayed near Cassian and showed some concern first. Then he turned to Natalie and complained, "The ocean is way too scary. It turns on you without warning. I don't like the ocean anymore!" Lucky quickly added, "Yeah! I take back what I said before. I don't like the ocean either!" Natalie didn't know whether to laugh or cry. She had no idea how to explain to them that a normal ocean wasn't like this. In all of human history, the largest recorded tsunami had only been about 160 feet tall. Waves that were hundreds of feet high and swallowed everything were far too dramatic for disaster movies. But when she thought about it more carefully, humans didn't really love the ocean itself. They loved beautiful coastlines.Since Northlorn was far from the sea, Natalie used to love going to the beach on vacation. She had even hoped to give Lucky and the others some happy memories of the ocean. Instead, she had given them trauma. With their human right beside them, the three little ones quickly calmed down. They sat properly in their seats and peered out the window with curious eyes. Cassian was still flying the helicopter forward at top speed. Below them, the seawater had completely swallowed an entire city and was still spreading toward the neighboring ones. The helicopter was fast, but it still couldn't outrun the water. The tsunami chased them north at terrifying speed. Before long, it swallowed an entire province and turned a landlocked region into a new coastal one.
