Shining Through the Chaos with My Bulldog

Chapter 663 A Close Call

The woman finally relaxed a little. "Thank goodness you planned ahead, honey." The man grinned. "They'll curse for a bit and then leave. As long as we stay quiet and don't show ourselves, we'll be fine." Downstairs, Jarvis saw that there were no real clues. He no longer cared about the stolen fuel at all. Too many setbacks had piled up. The anger in his chest finally exploded. Like someone pumped full of adrenaline, he grabbed Matthew by the collar. "Let's go!" Matthew blinked, confused. "Go where?" Jarvis clenched his teeth. "We're chasing the plane!" "What?!" Matthew stared at him. "On foot? That's—" Before he could finish, Jarvis switched into full sprint mode and dragged him along. Matthew was hauled nearly two miles before he could even catch his breath. "Darn it! I'll get them! I'll kill them all!" Jarvis roared. "Hey—hey—slow down! Let go! Help!" Matthew screamed. Meanwhile, Natalie and Cassian had already flown across two states. From Greendale to the coastal city of Olissea, they needed to cross five states in total. The extreme weather made things worse. The helicopter's performance took a hit. What should have been a day-and-a-half trip turned into a long crawl. They flew for a while, then stopped to rest, over and over again. It took them a full five days to reach their destination. Just before landing, they ran into a powerful cold front. The helicopter nearly went down. At the last second, Natalie pulled the entire helicopter into her storage space. The two of them stayed seated in the helicopter as the view outside the windows changed. The storm vanished, replaced by the familiar green lawns of the mansion. Both of them let out a deep breath at the same time. They had survived the apocalypse. They had avoided human threats. And yet, they almost died in a plane crash. After calming their shaky breathing, they looked at each other and laughed. Natalie slumped back in her seat and joked, still upbeat. "That was way more exciting than a roller coaster, right?" Cassian nodded. "It was exciting, but I can't really compare. I've never been on a roller coaster." Natalie looked surprised. "You've never ridden one?" Cassian nodded. "I've never been to an amusement park." Only then did Natalie remember. Cassian had grown up in an orphanage. By the time his grandfather found him, he was already grown. After that, he went straight into work and never dated. Of course he never had the chance. "What about bungee jumping? Gliding? Skydiving? You've never done any of those either?" she asked. Cassian gave a short reply. "No. As the head of the Holland Group, I can't afford even the smallest risk." Natalie nodded. That made sense. If he ever tried something dangerous, the board members would probably chase after him, begging him to stop while wiping sweat from their foreheads. Cassian opened his mouth, about to say something else, when he suddenly felt the storage space shaking. Natalie felt it too. The vibration was strong. She froze in shock. I can feel the earthquake inside the storage space? How was that even possible? Had the apocalypse really become this extreme? So extreme that even her other-dimensional storage space couldn't escape it? But very quickly, they realized something was off. It wasn't the storage space shaking. It was the helicopter and the seats. Both of them turned around at the same time and saw the source of the shaking. Lucky. She had pulled her head in tight. Her whole body was trembling nonstop. She was shaking so hard that even Natalie and Cassian, sitting in the front seats, could clearly feel it. Natalie looked at Lucky's face. She was obviously terrified. Natalie reached out and gently stroked her head. "What scared you this badly?" Lucky had always been fearless. She wasn't afraid of the sky or the ground—only big cockroaches. This was the first time Natalie had ever seen her this scared. Cash and Baron were right there too. Lucky didn't even care about keeping up her tough, fearless queen image anymore. Natalie comforted her for a long while before Lucky finally stopped shaking. Even then, the poor thing's legs were still weak. Natalie originally planned to open the helicopter door and let her run around on the grass and feel the ground and calm down. Cash and Baron had already sprinted off to drink spring water. Lucky, on the other hand, was still lying there, letting out soft, pitiful whimpers. Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Not even spring water can tempt you anymore?" Cassian also reached out and patted Lucky's head, speaking gently. "Cats are afraid of water. Dogs are afraid of heights. Most dogs are scared of heights." Then he looked at Lucky and encouraged her, "Lucky was already very brave just riding the helicopter. Falling from that height is terrifying. It's normal to be scared." Lucky understood Cassian's comfort. She felt much better and rubbed her big head against Cassian's hand.Seeing how pitiful she looked, Natalie felt sorry for her. "Then let's not take the helicopter next time. We'll drive instead." She had snow tracks anyway. Riding the Knight XV would work just fine. It would only take a bit more time. Cassian nodded. "This weather really isn't suitable for flying." If Natalie hadn't had her storage space earlier, they would have been dead for sure. When Lucky heard their decision, her mood instantly lifted. She wagged her tail happily and stuck out her tongue, licking Natalie's palm. Natalie laughed and comforted, "Alright, don't be scared anymore. Go drink some spring water with Cash and the others. When we leave the storage space, I'll show you something new. I promise you'll feel much better after."
